I have 34 years in the laser Business... I have seen them come and go... the likes of Epilog and Universal.... In 1991 I laser engraved the Weatherby Lazermark for them in Santa Ana CA on a 75-watt LMI ( 145K investment) then Epilog comes along and pitches the summit a 45K Boat Anchor if it was a racehorse it would still be out there trying to finish a mile race! You have to understand what Lasers can do and do not do. I hope I can purchase something again soon now that even a 100-watt cutter and engraver are less than 25K! Our Laser Shop also did acrylic we had a local shop that had at the time a 600-watt flatbed Mitsubishi and it would cut 1/2 inch acrylic like butter! Miss those days!
In my research, on paper the muse 3d seemed better than glowforge, especially with the rotary height extender. But the fine print only offers 30 day warranty vs glowforge 1 year. I contacted sales to confirm this. They didn't respond back. Big red flag that lead me to other complaints about service and power supplies blow often. 30 day warranty on new gear for that cash is awful.
Very informative and well explained about choices, but the the best detail of all is the engraving of the second amendment on a Picatiny rail accessory, NICE!
I need to cut Nickel strips out of full sheets for Li-ion battery packs terminals, They are very custom and I made them using Solidworks, What is the cheapest laser cutter I can get on the market today that can accomplish clean cuts for a thickness of 0.15 to 0.20 mm, The work space needed is as small as 3"x3".
was a great video to stumble upon after trying to find some honest answers on engraving as a total beginner! I diddd have a specific question, you mentioned briefly "logo on cutting board" which is my intent for one, however the unit i was looking at was kind of a box that had everything inside of it. the diode was 3w, but no one ever says "it can engrave all of these, dont get it if you use it on these". I want it to be able to do walnut, but everything always just says wood, and there are so many species of wood of different hardness, i cannot for the life of me find a simple yes. In your opinion, 3w diode able to surface engrave (maybe 1/8") walnut, and other hardwoods.
Ortur can certainly cut. But it requires multiple passes. I got the snapmaker, and it does a great job cutting, mainly because it has a Z-axis. You do have to calibrate the Z-axis height for whatever material you use.
@@makeorbreakshop Two additional notes for when you try this out... 1- I was getting really frustrated with cutting 2.5mm plywood... UNTIL I finally went and checked their forums and found the link at the bottom of this comment. The cutting setting they list for plywood was just right and gave me perfect cuts from then on. I did find that their plywood engraving setting was not good (100% power too much, 50% power just right), so I left a comment at the bottom for my recommended setting. 2- It's sort of a software labeling bug. In the software, when you use the engraving for a picture, and on the Dot (high quality) setting. They show the "Dwell Time" units as "mm/min". This is incorrect, and it is really "ms". support.snapmaker.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019025954
I have never used a laser or cut wood with a laser cutting machine but I want to start a business in this area. What machine do you suggest I get? And where should I get some training or videos?😌
So helpful! Starting up a STEM class at my school and I had no idea where to even start with ;aser engravers. I really apprechiate how you broke all this down and then went into more detail in the full review! My future students thank you!
Hi Sir wonderful explanation. I could not decide which brand is best and which one like how many watts etc better suits me. I am starting a textile (cutting & sewing dresses) business and I need a laser cutter and engraver that better suits to my business. Can you suggest me a good one please.Thank you again for the video.
I work with very large industrial Bystronic lasers. I've kinda wanted to get into it it as a hobby. I wish I could just use the ones at work for some personal projects. We use the CO2/LN2 lasers to cut through 1/2" mild steel. The new Fiber laser is used for the same parts, but is 10x faster.
Amazin video. I got a Atomstack s10 pro 10W lasser. But because of the big size and a small apartment, I am thinking to return it and get a Laserpecker 2. But I don't know if it is the right decision because I want to start a small business and offer engraved things in different sizes but also small wood objects and the Laserpecker doesn't seem to be able to cut so well. Can you please give me your advice? Thank you for your answer
Could use some advice. Looking at the glowforge and K40. But wouldnt mind to be directed towards more industrial versions. I got a spare room, probably 2x1m left. Ability to place air assist and extract fumes through a window nearby. It's in an appartement, quite populated so wouldnt be cutting overnight haha. Planning on cutting acrylic/pmma 3mm thick plates i want to feed atleast 50x50cm plates for ease. But also want to engrave/scorch leather and woodies(multipex/plywood most likely) Maybe engrave aluminium but I realise there are specialised laser(lenses) for that particular operation. Got max 5k to spend. Looking for a ROI within a year. (Things I sell will be around €5/€25 a product, around 5000mm distance in lines per product) It's mainly hobby orientated. I want to comfortably be out for work during the day while it is running. Ofcourse I have a contact in the appartement that could keep an eye on things and unplug the field if necessary. What would you guys recommend based on my input? What might I have forgot to mention that could be detrimental for decision making?
Hi, can you recommend me a laser engraver for urns that are mode of brass metal. What we will be engraving is just the names or may be picture of a pet. Thanks
Hi. I am looking for a Lazer engraver that can work on plastic, stainless steel, aluminum, iron, surgical steel. How hygienic is an item after it has been engraved and sterilized?
Nice video. Wish you focused more on the higher end lasers but not really your target audience and not something you have in the shop. I wouldn't put boss anywhere near epilog. For general use CO2 lasers I would do a list like this: - K40 + upgrades - 50W ebay/ali chinese - 80W ebay/ai chinese - All in ones or what you call kickstarter lasers (including the more expensive dremel brand one) - Branded chinese lasers with local support (boss, thunder, aeon etc) - Finally top tier RF lasers (epilog, trotec, ULS etc) There's plenty of specific machines that fall outside those categories. Like aeon having an 'all in one' style series and thunder laser having RF source lasers.
Good call, I like have the category of pro style chinese lasers (like Boss) as an additional one to those on the US side (Epilog). I"ll make that update for a future version of the video!
Dose Epilog make great machine and after care? I just start talking to them. So far they are very helpful and sounds like they have what I need and they make quality machines in USA. Considering purchasing one of their machine for my metal and plastic work..
Great Video, thanks alot I watched several of your videos and noticed that you didn't mentioned Laser Pecker , any issues on their products ? should I avoid them and consider one from the list you mentioned I'm totally new to laser engraving, appreciate your help :)
Hi.. which laser machine do you suggest to cut sterling silver sheets for jewelry making?? I read that 50 watts is enough, but i'm torn on which laser machine is best for it. Please advise!
Nice Video and has a lot of information in it. I want to get into a Laser Engraver but of course there is so much info to digest and make decisions on. Because of the COVID virus we have now lost the only place I would have gone to look at and ask questions about it. That is FRY's Electronics. I was going to build a newer computer with newer components. I like to buy locally and now there is no second choice place to go. The whole printing and engraving environment is changing so fast I have been deliberately slow to get involved and jump in. Would you be able to make suggestions on where to focus if I mentioned some of the criteria involved? 1) Engrave small objects like in the size of Keys, Knife handles and up to the size of 6 inches square for just a little more versatility; 2) Because of size - price should be small due to the versatility and usefulness is reduced (comparatively); 3) Precision - due to the size of the engravings they will be examined closely. 4) Engrave or etch but NOT cut through. 5) Small because of my needs and can't have it take up a lot of room. 6) Engrave any metals that will dis-color noticeably. All these are valid reasons that must be evaluated together. If you can please give me a few suggestions. Because I don't know what the prices may be, please consider price to be of the lesser requirement. I want a good one that will do the job. Thanks for your help.
Is there a way to cut thru a plexi box, but only thru the laser side and not thru the other? Something you can put inside the box? I would assume just put a block of wood that is thick enough to stop the laser from going all the way thru? What is it for? Making vents for an enclosure.
I am looking at buying my 1st diode laser. I am debating between the Xtool and the Ortur pro2. If you were to buy one of these two which one you would go with? I know the Xtool is larger watts but I am thinking in one of your videos you said rumor was Ortur is coming out with a 10 watt head also. Also want to buy a Fiber laser to do metal engraving and engraving of guns. What would you recommend?

In your opinion what would be a good laser cutter that handles a decent size piece of wood or acrylic. Most of these co2 lasers seem to handle 20x8 . I read your reviews on glowforge and muse.
Totally agree! I’ve watched so many videos the past few weeks and feel so overwhelmed.. He’s broken it down so well and mentioned all the top laser cutters. This was so unbelievably helpful!
Hi, can you help me out. iam doing research on laser. found one manufacturer from china for a CO2,40w laser. he says it's better to take a 100w laser if I mean to engrave on the beer and vine glass. What do you think about that? is he trying just to take more money for laser or does the quality really depend on the laser power? thanks in advance
Hi, I'm trying to find the best laser cutter for Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Rigid Foam Insulation (It's that pink very dense foam - the pink panther one). Can you recommend one for a 3-4 inch thick foam and a bed size of at least 2 X 2 ft.
I have had great results with a K40 with no upgrades. I only use it to make war gaming terrain but I have found it to be a very useful tool. I should add a air assist when I can get around to it.
Hey so i got a question what kind of Machine would i need if i want to cut fabrics like felt insert with adhesive, fusible web and satin? it needs to be precise and not burn the material.
I am still really lost. I want a laser cutter to make dollhouse miniatures in 1:12 scale at the largest and 1:144 scale at the smallest. I have a Cricut Maker cutting machine and it doesn't cut precisely and small enough which is why I'm looking for a laser cutter instead. The most common materials I would cut would be around 2mm or less, matboard to thin wood. I'm 33 but I find technology to be a little annoying. It's not my favorite thing to figure out software and do upgrades. I don't think I'm even capable. So I need something user friendly that I can use with SVG files.
Love your videos! Can you tell me what laser brand and size to start a business solely engraving large wine bottles? Size range from 3” to 8” in diameter and 12” to 24” tall. I’m assuming a rotary attachment is necessary.. Much appreciated JP
I'm looking to create acrylic stamps to use for my bakery and want to know what's best but also small to cut detailed designs into acrylic. Any suggestions??
That’s amazing! However, I still didn’t get it if I want to cut mirrors let’s say I want to get letters or names out of mirrors which one should I get? Sorry I’m a beginner and still gathering info
Definitely one of the better videos, i appreciate you comparing more than only kickstarter ovelty machines - I didnt catch this in the video, but any experience with Thunder Laser?
Hello Dear Brandon, and thank for this awesome videos, i want to buy a large chinese fiber laser machine (3mx1,5m), do you know some good brands to consider ? thanks :)
I actually have a CO2 laser that cuts metal. I imported a full size 4x8 table from China. It has two heads. I only paid $8500 The key to being able to cut metal is POWER. You need your laser tube to be rated at 180w (peak) with 150w nominal. So don't only get a 150w tube and think you've got enough power. (Maybe for super thin sheet metal) The way you can find out if the laser you are looking at can even begin to cut metal, is the head. They are significantly more chunky, look industrial. But they are known in the biz as "Metal/Non-Metal" heads. That's the phrase you are looking for. My table came with a water chiller, up/down front half table, 2 blower motor fume extractors, extra honeycomb top, rotary attachment and small aquarium pump. But I'm using a silent air compressor, it barely needs any real PSI above 40 anyway. And believe it or not, all of it runs on a 120v. (Even though I just converted the actual table to 220v, so I'm not tripping breakers running the water chiller, blower fans and an air compressor all at once. I had to do the extension cord thing across the shop for awhile to catch different outlets not on the same circuit) More about the head I use to cut steel with... It can cut up to 4mm mild steel and 3mm stainless. Which is crazy to think about, considering the price point. The other thing you will absolutely need is a bottle of oxygen from a welding supply store. You only need to use that when cutting steel. So it's a minor cost factor even if you are just messing around. The other benefit of that particular head is that it can also cut 1" thick acrylic, with glassy smooth polished edges. The secondary head I mentioned, I only use really for cutting thin stuff, most mostly engraving. I believe that one is rated at 80w peak.
Can other lasers such as OMtech Co2 lasers and Ortur Diode Lasers engrave on apple products such as Iphones, Ipads, Macbook Pros ect. without damaging the internals of those products?
Actually my 5w diode laser can cut 4mm plywood but I gotta go real slow with 5 passes or so. But, it works, but it's only suitable for really small stuff. I did some finger joint boxes for CNC router bits, roughly 15x10x10cm box size. Took a few hours but I just left it running so that was fine. Also a bit of cleanup work was necessary to get all parts out.
I just need to burn an outline of a dragon onto plywood. Do you think I can get away with the cheaper cutter? I dont need to cut out only burn a outline

What is the best machine to engrave larger and more rounded objects like wine bottles?
with the full spectrum muse, you have to buy all the accessories, like the water cooling, air exaust, and air compressor, right???
They sell at box that has all of that integrated or you would need to get them yourself.
Hey man what if I want it for laser engraving a firearm or something like that or jewelery?
Wow, gr8 vdo on the various laser cutters. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.
Question... over all will a CO2 engrave paint coated yeti cups?
In your opinion what would be a good laser cutter that handles a decent size piece of wood or acrylic. Most of these co2 lasers seem to handle 20x8 . I read your reviews on glowforge and muse.
This video is all I ever wanted and needed. Thank you!!
Finally one good video about laser engraving. Strike to the point!
Light Burn
Much appreciated
JP
I'm looking to create acrylic stamps to use for my bakery and want to know what's best but also small to cut detailed designs into acrylic. Any suggestions??

Can the CO2 ones engrave rocks like agate? How deep? and if you go over the same thing again does it engrave deeper?
What is the cheapest laser cutter would you recommend for cutting foam board effectively?
Can you cover galvo lasers? For actual production/speed they are king for marking and thin material cutting (exponentially faster than other systems).
This was incredibly helpful. Have you done a comparison video of the FS 3D Muse vs the Make Box laserbox?
Which Machine would you recommend for laser printing on Mylar bags
whats the difference between the k40 and the k50? do i have to do as much to get it working, and as many problems?
K50 is a little more robust. Biggest difference is the 50 is bigger and has an adjustable bed.

Hello boss .I have some viedo in my homepage .maybe you will finding that viedo
I actually have a CO2 laser that cuts metal. I imported a full size 4x8 table from China. It has two heads. I only paid $8500
The key to being able to cut metal is POWER. I had to do the extension cord thing across the shop for awhile to catch different outlets not on the same circuit)
More about the head I use to cut steel with...
I was looking at OMTech 130watt with chiller and passthrough on all 4 sides @ $5000.00
just got good deal on Agnes by hurricane lasers curious of your opinion on it im totally new to it
Best budget laser machine for jewelery making
can the ortur engrave stainless steel? like jewelry. and would you recommend it business-wise on a budget?
Can you advise on a beginner, craft laser mainly to engrave tumblers? Not for resale items, just for customized gifts.
So no co2 lasers can cut metal? I’ve read that some can cut 1.2mm thick stainless steel and carbonized steel?
Do you know if any can engrave gemstones, like quartz or moonstone?
Which laser engraved sunglasses an eye glasses ?
I just need to burn an outline of a dragon onto plywood. Do you think I can get away with the cheaper cutter? I dont need to cut out only burn a outline
Yep, the cheaper diode lasers would totally do it!
what would you recommend for cutting 3mm perplex acrylic?
