What I find interesting about Tsubakura's theme in BPoHC is how much more 'subdued' than its EE version. The blazingly fast and intense piano motif that dominated the EE version is still present here, but much more subtle and not as 'in your face'. The instrumentation in general is less harsh and more varied. This theme also modulates just once near the end, unlike the EE theme which switches keys all over the place. Now all this could be attributed to JynX's increasing skill as a composer allowing him to create more well-rounded themes, and that's probably one reason for it, but I also think there's some pretty cool symbolism here. The EE theme may be the song first associated with Tsubakura, but strictly speaking I'd argue it's not his theme - it's the theme of Tsurubami impersonating Tsubakura. Viewed through this lens, this explains why the EE theme is so much more energetic than this one - because Tsurubami is a much more energetic person than Tsubakura, and that bled through his disguise. In EE, Tsurubami's disguise of Tsubakura is near-flawless, but his personality is much harder to mask, which allows Yabusame to figure out that something isn't quite right. In a similar vein, the EE theme might superficially suit Tsubakura, but the way it's arranged is much too fast-paced and up-front for someone as lackadasical as him. Tsubakura's BPoHC theme, despite coming later, is what I consider to be his 'true' theme: going back to the piano motif, it's still there in full force, but expressed in a very underscored way, more like a casual stroll than a frantic sprint - much like how Tsubakura is an extremely capable prodigy who nonetheless is very lazy and doesn't like applying himself. Also it fuckin slaps holy shit
If I'm honest, I kinda like the original a little better Though this one definitely fits Tsubakura more. I think Yabusame and Tsubakura are definitely in my top three favorites as far as characters go. (For a few personal reasons, too.) But the third....is just a little further away~
i just noticed something at 1:13 this sounds similar to Eternal Power ~ BIG STAR maybe clause stole parts of tsubakura's theme into theirs? i have no idea

God all the boss portraits for the shrine characters are great

That sounds so Tsubakura-like lmao
I’m having an aneurysm
天影戦記でグッと曲のクオリティ上がったなあと感じる
リズムが心地よくてめちゃくちゃかっこいい。終盤の盛り上がりが白熱したバトルって感じで特に好き。あとこのツバクラの立ち絵がかわいい
If you play this in reverse, it sounds like fake Tsubakura's theme in EE!!!

this sounds similar to Eternal Power ~ BIG STAR
maybe clause stole parts of tsubakura's theme into theirs? i have no idea
i have also noticed this, whenever i sing clause's theme in my head it always happens that i accidently sing tsubakura's theme midway
*aneurysm intensifies*
Man, Listening to these themes on half speed is honestly super nice! There's a constant drumming usually, so it never feels empty!
So clean.
