As someone with over 15 years of experience in Cybersecurity, I believe that the term "Specializing in Cybersecurity" can sometimes be misleading. It suggests that the person may not have a solid understanding of the different aspects of Security. In Cybersecurity, there are two main areas of focus: operational and engineering. The operational side involves detecting, responding, and mitigating emerging threats, whether they come from within or externally. To be successful in this area, one needs to have expertise in Digital Forensics, Incident Response, Threat Modeling, Detection Engineering, and other related fields. On the other hand, the engineering side involves setting up security appliances that meet the security needs of the organization.
Do you have a good repository of info for people starting? I really want to pentest and red team work. The dichotomy you brought up is fantastic first principles thinking. That’s the kind of stuff I think I’m looking for, but anything is appreciated

@@victorygarden556 So the pentest and red ream very much fall under operational but bit of a challenge getting into considering you have no experience in the CyberSecurity realm. I would suggest building foundation with Network+ (not the certification), then move on to do certification in Security+, CYSA+ and Splunk respectively. Find a entry level job as a level 1 security analyst. This is exactly the path I gave my son who completed all of the certification, also is a sophomore working on his bachelors in Cybersecurity, and just obtained his entry-level position as a junior security analysis with a financial firm. I've set a goal to achieve the AWS Solutions Architect Associate and AWS Developer certifications this summer. I have a basic understanding of cloud computing with AWS CCP cert. AI is good, but I still think people sleep on a security career in AI. Like you eluded to in your video, cybersecurity will always need the human element to ensure the code does what it is intended to do. You are doing the right thing my dude; just don’t forget AI needs security as well.
