Not always. My father in-law has bought mostly new (but with some ex-demo) RAV 4's for the last 25+ years, and he's had issues. His current RAV 4 needed new suspension arms and bushes at less than 30k miles from new. Admittedly it was sorted under warranty, as you get a further 12 Months warranty each time you get a service at a Toyota dealer. They said the repairs would have cost in excess of £1800 had he not had the warranty in place....

RAV hybrid is a 2.5 petrol/hybrid, also found in some Lexus models. I had a 2016 one and it just went & went. Lovely things if you just want a car to function as a tool, do about 40-45mpg in real world so not too bad. Wife has a RAV now, petrol auto though, just passed it's MOT at 11 years old with no advisories, tester said it was mechanically 'mint'. Look after them and they repay you.

The Ecoboost engines are rubbish in general. The 2.0 and larger ones aren't as bad.
But the 2.0 has had multiple recalls and weren't replaced if the milage was too high. The 2.0 is only good when it's attached to a manual gearbox. The Mondeo only has the 2.0 combined with the CATASTROPHIC Powershift transmission. So only the Focus ST is somewhat decent.
The 2.3 is reasonable when it's from 2017 or later or if it had a new headgasket installed.
The 2.7 is reasonable but also has a wet belt to drive the oil pump. So it's a timebomb.
I'm not sure about the 3.5 or bigger, but I'd stay away from anything with the name Ecoboost unless it's something very special. Like a Focus RS or a Mustang.
If you want a Ford, get a full hybrid model. NOT THE MILD HYBRID!

Hi James, think this will work out so much better for you, newer cars and trade off the cheapies. Can't really comment on the Fiat, never had or sold one, just hope that they are better than Citroen and Peugeot? The Fiesta was a brave decision. Do you remember the old Ford 1.8 Diesels that snapped timing belts? Ford changed the belt layout on those too, but they still snapped. They have got it wrong again, oil and rubber do not mix James, and they never will, so the change will not help, and even though Ford have decided to 'maybe' fix them when they let go, do you really want to sell a car that decides to self detonate and put your customer through that?
Stick with Toyota and Lexus, I know that you think that they are bland, and maybe they are, but they are leaps and bounds ahead of the the other crap that is available these days, and that includes VAG, and JLR.

Then why don't you start a similar business and offer comparable vehicles that have been mechanically and visually refurbished with an MOT and warranty and see if you could undercut him in price and have your business remain viable while providing you with a living wage?

I would not touch an Eco Boost. That simple! Although, Ford have admitted to a major design fault with the wet belt and changed to chain in later models. I may be incorrect but from 2020 onwards, it still has its problems. I hope you see the back of that one very soon and it outlives any warranty. Good luck!

The extra numberplate in the boot of the Toyota will have come off the trailer or caravan they have been towing.

That CarPal device, although comparitively cheap, will ony function for 12 months from first registration. Yes, it does have more functions than most "cheap" devices but if wanting to keep and use after the year's anniversary then it's worth paying a bit more for a device with free lifetime updates (whatever lifetime refers to). The specific vehicle software requires a fee, after a year, for it to continue working.

Rav4,s are brilliant Chops, I’ve had four models no faults in fifteen years and I have several friends with that model and they haven’t had any problems either and one or two have been really high miles, just need regular services like most other models of Toyota!

I'd still change the wet belt in the Fiesta for peace of mind. It'll also help it sell.
Their reputation has really plummeted. Such a shame as, wet belt aside, they're good cars and a nice drive.
