Catching up on the #replays y’all! Thank you for the wealth of information you’re both providing and it’s so appreciated. I’m taking notes as I plan the next phase for my “shift” before the end of 2024.
Happy New Years! Taking that step to move to someplace that speaks to you is the best gift you can give yourself. I think people need to take a few mini-retirements, longer travel, or exploring what they want to do in life and make time for those experiences. Saving for a Pivot fund and Emergency fund is a way to step yourself financial freedom. It made me brave enough to take off a month every year and not care if I got laid off because of it - and you know what, those jobs kept me there. I've wanted to travel to Portugal, but not to retire. I really love being near family more than I love traveling. However, long travel is of interest. Did you do that?
Hey there, thank you so much for watching and adding to the conversation! 💕. We were not as smart as you - so we didn't start taking 4 week vacations until about 15 years ago. We're hoping that some of our family members will use us as an example, get their financial act together and consider joining us here. 🤷🏽♀️
I think that this episode was fantastic! Insightful questions from many levels of life and experience. Additionally we were rewarded with very interesting, intelligent, and thoughtful responses. A real treat to anyone pondering a new chapter in life experience. Thank you. Muito Saúde e Feliz Ano Novo
Hi I just want to add some news that maybe no one knew yet, is that Bulgaria and Romania are going to be part of Schengen by the end of March. I live in the Czech Republic. So for countries that have the 90 day visa waiver, will be allowed to travel there also as part of schengen. But also it will be less places that folks can go to get out of schengen when they need to leave schengen for 180 days.
Happy new year dear Halisi and Ric🎉 Wishing you oceans of love and prosperity and great health for 2024 and always! Continue the outstanding work you always provide and looking forward to meeting you in the future!💗
Hey Madonna, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. 💕 Sometimes I question if we're really adding value. 🙏🏾. Send us an email a few weeks before you come and if we're in town we will definitely meet.
Hey Ms. Artelia, 🥰 thank you so much for watching. Let us know how else we can help your journey. In the meantime here are some resources that might help: bit.ly/OBUresources 😁

Halisi, Louisiana parishes are kind of like a county in other states. For example, I live in East Baton Rouge Parish, which is comprised of four cities.
YES, it is the same in the US - only the US has some mortgage programs that are a lot more favorable than what I've been exposed to here in Portugal. I know you are 100% right, because a friend of mine bought a small building in Seixal for about €300k - another friend looked at the building behind her (mostly a ruin) 5 months later and the French guy who owned it wanted to charge her €1,000,000! 😳
Hey Marilyn, there probably is not a day in the life beyond youtube. When we are not doing language lessons or running errands, we do adventure days. Depending on the weather, etc. we will explore the city on foot or visit a museum or something that we've yet to visit. However, we're always filming a bit of what we're experiencing....now we just have to edit so y'all can see it. 🤣 The small towns of Setúbal, Sintra, Cascais or Sesimbra offers a whole new experience and the Lisbon metro card gets you there. Moving to a new country is not like moving to a new city or state because the atmosphere and culture is SO different. So even the most mundane things - walking to the grocery store, takes me past buildings built over 250 years ago...
Why Lisbon.Portugal was the hot spot for Slavery. Why would I take my retirement dollars to a country that enslaved me.This is what is wrong with Blac❤ people,we have no collective responsibility to the struggle.
They did a segment, addressing that question, providing an excellent explanation… are you in the US ? Why are you in the country that continues to oppress and marginalize its POC ?
Excellent response,Halisi. I’m there ; what will bring me joy? But , still need to be still. Additionally, making this move as a single female adds another dimension.
For your information, Portugal was the first country in Europe to end slavery. At that time slavery existed throughout the world. The king of Congo himself sold slaves mainly to Muslims, but he also sold slaves to King Dom Manuel and Dom João lll. The History of Portugal is long, and is only understood by those who know the old manuscripts in the National Archives of Torre do Tombo in Lisbon. These manuscripts fool no one.
Great conversation. I just returned from Panama and Charlotte Van Horn’s Black Expats in Panama tour! 🙌🏽
Yassss, so is Panama the place?

Hey Jazzi - thank you for the information - I was definitely making assumptions based on limited knowledge. 😆
Real estate speculation by foreigners is making impossible for locals to buy or rent a house

@@OurBlackUtopia this trend is making life impossible for locals and imigrants.
Q. What is your day to day life , like … beyond UA-cam. ?

Speak for yourself!! And go ahead live in America where they still enslave you!

My medical experience in Mexico was far easier than Ric expressed .Much easier… but just something to be learned.
