Craig sticking up for Faye and putting Shirley in her place was priceless
Many of us are outside the UK and watch the dances on UA-cam. We don’t see the full show. What did Shirley say and how did Craig respond?
What did he say?
Shirley told Faye that when is moving forward she should be the person who is driving, hence she should be going forward on her heel and not on her toes and as a result, she told Faye that there was no flight or movement in the routine. Craig in return told Faye that she smashed it and not to listen to anything Shirley has to say about heel leads and those small technicalities will come later in the competition and that he thought it was the best dance of the night.
Strangely, Louise, both Craig and Shirley were right judging from your comment! Shirley must have been strict with Faye because she's a finalist potential in her. But Craig looked more for the performance and the performance in this dance was excellent.

The best dance off the night.
There is something so unique and special about Faye. She’s the only celebrity I’ve ever seen on strictly transition to another move with no unbalance-ness, so much neatness and precision and pure flow. Others are great but there’s always that awkward posture or position they have that comes across “West End” or “Disco” or “Mom/Dad” dancing style....but with Faye ...it’s pure Ballroom/Latin style and that’s what we all look for! This woman dances from her heart! She’s definitely got it. What I love about Giovanni’s choreography is how...he makes it different...not to show off but for a story and the music they’ve chosen to connect to make their dance even more special than a usual V Waltz. Their chemistry is absolutely strong and wonderful too which helps a lot for a great partnership. Claiming the winners of this year! ❤️

Can we praise the singing too, as this can take away from a dance, but on this occasion Tommy was brilliant. This is what makes Strictly special - live band and singers.

Five Giovanni?! Where to look? Joking aside, Faye's stunning, absolutely stunning in this routine. Beautiful top line which held up even in those turns and fleckrls (she nailed it, whereas Ashley last week bricked it). It's a very stylised VW and unusually stark and almost tango like in setting, but Giovanni's genius in the choreography with just basically three VW figures somehow made it work! Wonderful! My first 8 of the series!
I swear - when I saw the dress I thought they were doing Tango. Still this was beautiful performance and I appreciate that it was stylistically different from most VW offerings.

Absolutely adored everything about this dance..despite following the Viennese Waltz format, I feel it had a very “tango-esque” drama and feel to it. My favourite dance of the series so far. Faye is an awesome dancer!
Fantastic dancing! She is the most skilled dancer on the show. So much of an edgy vienesse walts . I was instantly mesmerized by this dance. Deserved 40. Fantastic choreography! She really pulled it off ! One of my favourite ballroom dances ever on the show. To top it off this was only week 2! This girl is one flawless dancer.

This song is so empowering for women, and I'm proud of how Faye embraced that. I watched this back again one time, and I was reduced to tears. Because I kept thinking about how it reminded me of how much my mother has done for me and my little sister in our lives, how she has worked her fingers to the bone for a decent wage, and how many women have done the same, yet they are still being underappreciated, and that disgusts me. That's why I find this so touching.
Ooh loved how different and dramatic this was! She acted it well and I really enjoy just seeing the actual waltz for longer, it's quite beautiful. The multiple Giovanni's were a bit creepy though lol, I don't think that was necessary really.

Interesting stylization, very sensual which I wasn't expecting for a VW. Had Len been on the panel, I think he would've docked a few points, especially for the floor roll @0:37, definitely wasn't expecting that! Can't wait for their tango and rumba!

WHAT A FANTASTIC NUMBER, especially the opening part. It was pure elegance and drama, but her footwork was weak. A 7.
UNDERMARKED. Idk if sHiRlEy is watching the right show. That was amazing, the way she moved, and the way she actually closed her feet. No hate, but isn’t is iLlEgAl to show that out on week 2?! Amazing, BEST of the night GURLLL. 9/10

One thing I like about Viennese Waltz as it's done on Strictly as opposed to DWTS is that on Strictly, we actually GET more than three seconds of actual Viennese Waltz content in hold. The Viennese Waltz choreography on DWTS is weaksauce and disappointing because I never get to see the celebs shine the way Faye did here -- I especially loved her frame in hold!
But you will never get the Dwts level of tangos on Strictly.
Says who? I've seen that level of Tango on Strictly many times. And Argentine Tango? Strictly wins for the most part!

I agree with Craig I love the differnt feel to the Viennese although a traditional VW danced to perfection could never be boring!! Swore this would be a tango when i saw the mise en scene of the dance floor, her dress, and his stalk towards her at the beginning. However this isn't original- those who watch DWTS will have seen that they have put tango like spins on ballroom dances for years! I still see room for improvement for her in her top line and core. Her footwork speed is great and very consistent. I have to deduct 1 point though for the sheer amount of time out of hold 7/10.

I cannot adequately express my loathing for the finish to all these BBC clips. Giovanni's amazing final move is covered up with that godawful childish "glitter" and other clips have had the final pose completely masked by the box showing other BBC clips. I came here to use the slo-mo so I could see how Gio did that move, and now I am *fewmin'*.

I loved that John Lewis dress! I was so upset when the dry cleaners put itching powder in and broke the hook and eye! So sad 🥺
Faye has performed in West End shows. Unless she is in a dance off with Ashley, she should easily get through to the final weeks.

THAT OPENING was terrific. Rally great choreography, she is such a beautiful lady. She showed grace and elegance and drama as well. I loved her top line but her footwork was weak. No heel leads at all, sadly. The sway was great, her hold was great - she just needs to concentrate on her footwork (they also broke hold during the dance, which is illegal). A 7.
