    I enjoy some other motorcycle touring channels, Itchy Boots, and several Australian ones.
    But, for me, nothing beats this one for the way the story and the pictures and the road are woven together, with no distracting ego, so that I almost feel like it's me doing this, going on a journey, exploring, and always in the moment.

      I am used to being out there alone, that's why there is no crazy riding or pushing things. I ride well within my limits, because of the fact I am alone out there. I do ride with an EPB (Electronic Personal Beacon) as it's a must when riding alone.

    One of my favorite videos of yours, Joe! I love riding those forest roads, I also loved that well placed barb for GS’s 😊. I always find those drainage humps fun to ride over - often they have a little sand on the uphill side! I have often camped next to rivers and waterfalls, but what I find is, it’s nice for an hour, but then you can’t “turn off” the river noise! Where I camp you have to be mindful of bears wandering into camp and you’d never hear it camping next to a river. Question for you - do you disable the rear ABS when going down those steep hills? I can sometimes get it to turn off, but most of the time I end up with a sore thumb from pushing that button!

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  5 місяців тому

      Thanks Sarah, I am glad you are still enjoying the series, we are lucky not bears here if you keep the tent done up all the time, most of the stuff that can kill you can't get it (well until you get into the north of the country and crocodile become an issue.
      I have pressed that button a heap and it has never worked. Not sure if I am doing anything wrong with my pressing technic, so you are doing better than me if you get it to work sometimes.

    Yeah when you said you wanted to head up blue rag I had my doubts ha ha. But good effort. Please be careful cutting the right hand corners, more then one occasion I’ve found a 4wd coming the other way, and the new raptor owners thing they can go faster now. Great video man thanks for sharing

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  5 місяців тому +1

      Yer was just following that GPX files, as you saw I had to much weight on for the bike, with out the weight all was good. If I knew before it would probably have been cool to camp closer leave all my gear then do the whole track, maybe next time.
      It's weird I am very cautious around corners but on the video it looks like I cut some, I think it is the wide angle lens as I was thinking it looks like I am on the wrong side, but the only time I ever cross the centre was if I could see clearly ahead.

    • @budget-adventure
      @budget-adventure 5 місяців тому +1

      @@freewayproject yeah cameras do that some times. Not criticism just seen a lot of bikes stuck under the front of a 4by.

    Hey Joe
    Beautiful videography, but I have some bad news for you. I think you missed the spectacular part of Blue Rag. You came up North on Basalt Knob. track and then you turned right onto Blue Rag trail (down and up the steep bit where you dropped it). But you should have turned LEFT. That would have taken you up to Blue Rag trig point.... and the ride along that ridge top is "the money shot". Probably one of the most spectacular rides and vistas in the high country (if not Australia (In my humble opinion).
    Anyway, love your work.

I was following the GPX file (still learning how it works) I had as I've got no idea where I am going there and I don't know anyone to ride with, but alls good I'll just have to go back again (I'm keen to) to do the whole track, and this time I won't take all the gear with me on the bike 😂, I'll camp close, leave there gear and then do it. I'll definitely check out the Trig point.
      I saw the Crooked River Track down where I crossed the river, that looked like it went up the river I am guessing it crosses the river a few time? I have you done that one?

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat 5 місяців тому +1

      @@freewayproject Yes, once you get the hand of gpx files, they are incredibly valuable. I usually go over the gpx files pretty closely the night before so I understand the terrain I'll be riding over and I can look for junctions or problem area. Blue Rag trig point is definitely much more fun to ride on unladen bikes... My last trip I did it unladen on my 701 and it was so much fun... but the trip before, I didn't know what I was getting myself into and I did it fully laden on my 1250GS and that was tough and scary.
      I don't think I've done Crooked River track. I've been there twice but only just scratched the surface. It's tough riding there, because if you take the wrong track, you can end up stuck in a valley with tracks that are too steep to ride out on both sides. Especially if you are solo... need to be pretty careful in High country.

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  5 місяців тому

      @@brentbat Yes, that is why I wasn't game to get off the GPX file as where found the file, it said it was in the easy to moderate track range and as I was solo I didn't want to get myself in a situation I could get myself out of and the reason when I went through the high country earlier in the year with not GPX files or navigation I stuck to the main roads.
      Wow a GS would of been a hand full, the 701 sound like a lot better suited bike.
      I don't mind taking small steps, not pushing it too hard, just learning a bit more each time. I am having a blast exploring and learning slowly, it's the fun bit working it all out. Thanks for the information.

    12:50 you wonder if the new Himalayan 450 might be a better option. When you get the chance to try the new one take note of the longer wheelbase vs agility, the lack of low-end torque, the more forward-leaning standing position, the vibration and the in-camera flicker of the digital display. The 450 is faster and torquier at the top end, but you might miss the slow off-road tractor tour of the 411.
