wow wow, absolutely great....the original track Koth Biro as sund by Ayub Ogada is a traditional Luo folk song that used to be sung in our villages here in Kenya, of the Luo tribe ( Obama's Kenyan tribe)....am really blown away , i think its the first ever Luo song to be done on Violin!!!!!! really humbling, will share with my family and friends here in Kenya.Btw Koth Biro means Rain is coming.....so the kids are being urged and pushed to drive the Cows home, cause rain is coming.
Beautiful. This is the hidden poetry of simple, small things that keep repeating time after time from one generation to another. A real intangible cultural heritage.
light incense, light a candle, play this music, close your eyes, and imagine the beauty of africa..sunrise, sunset, the desert sky, etc. this is very mystical and beautiful at the same time. i love it!
An enchanted African dream... This song has such stillness but equally a paradox of movement. Regina masterfully transports you to a place filled with joy. I envision a sunrise and men canoing down stream along the river banks of the Delta. Children laughing and running uphill through the tall grasslands as a flock of geese startled flies off into the distant sky; a code that they're nearing home and a reassurance to the regal women who await their return.
Brilliant work Regina carter...(kothbiro by Ayub Ogada), this is the essence of life, most people don't understand, what it takes to be close to nature, Africa my pride, my all... we will forever tell our stories...
At the beginning I am remindly kindly of how such feelings of despair may be lifted upon my back with some music in my ears that goes in a circle from my cognitive ways of the mind which is sheer complexity to how I do know with a certainly how my heart feels and with these two combined, it is so beautiful to hear Regina Carter as if she is here with me and my loved ones sharing so we all may not have any ill will about us. It is not a dream in life to wish or contemplate about ways of life or matters of interest that in fact mold our personalities because I feel those things we love most are part and a significant part of our personality. Thank you Regina Carter, always ... may Long Days and Pleasant Evenings be a part of me when I say these words to another while thinking of this song going through my mind as well as one of the first songs at the tiny desk concert [NPR] when the 'friendship' song just took me away and I was gone for a few moments but years could have passed. That is what music is for me because I am but a mortal while what you do for yourself alone will be buried with you but again, what I do for others will be immortal and perhaps live on with others, please.
How on God's green earth could any person say there could be something inappropriate about this song. I don't get it, do you? Why would one ever want to think something this beautiful could be inappropriate. It is not haunting by any stretch of that defined word as was used by some person who called it that and it was a way to go to bed for him. For me, it is a way to to feel goodness when my body is hurting with severity. You just cannot care whether people believe you or not and that it the key that was part of my address to over 500 men, only men because it was a fraternal association of philanthropic men who give to help those who are in distress and do so in such a way that my father and I are both Freemasons and that is simply something I will not discuss as those who have a curiosity much seek it out on their own. But my father encouraged me not by anything he said, but by this one ring he wore for over 50 years or somewhere around that length of time. It was his wedding band and also signified something else. That something else since childhood is what I had to know and am so happy that once that time came and I knew with the help of such kind and compassionate, intelligent others, it mattered most to me on this planet.
@Luisa Matins-Had seen The Constant Gardener when it came out but recently re-connected with the soundtrack and found Ayud Ogada's song, love the simplicity!
No words adequate to describe this beauty. It went straight into my heart, where i will carry it with me wherever i go. Thankyou so much for sharing this! Love, Sam
Rendered with poignancy and dignity as a dige to the departed great Artist Ayub Ogada..R.I.P. Woud Oganda! As a community we stand charged for not honouring our cultural icons!!
This lady came to me last year as I did not know who she was. In fact, for many years she had been an acclaimed renowned violinist that was very special, indeed. She was given credit by many, many people in the spirit of Jazz for reviving something that many people of stature had felt for some time had been falling in this nation's standards of excellence. I disagree although I do admit that my grace and blessing of not knowing of Regina Carter's music and the feeling she gave to me not only helped me feel so very good but diverted things that one must simply accept and and always have the wisdom to know that differenes do in fact exist in knowing when you personally are able to change things or it is a matter of life that you cannot change it. But what I feel is that hope is a good thing, a very good thing, and the fact that her music always gives me hope is that there is not reason to go to that other very well known saying that has helped many people who could not help themselves by knowing the difference of accepting those things which you could change as opposed to have the wisdom of knowledge to know those things that cannot be changed. It is not a bad thing in life. We or most of us who choose not to have fear yet to always know adversit which I define as danger, and knowing that fact of danger is something that I may and will always avoid as life is so precious that I simply want to keep as much of it going on as possible for my loved ones, my children; first and foremost, then to me but after the children to their mother who beget all innocent children and in my case and scenario of life, I simply put my loved ones first although feelings do change and status does change, my children do not and they will remain my children regardless of what papers may say or how they may feel in the future. There are simply those things that are called tough love and I fully understand it and have for some time. May you always have the very best of health within you and the same within your loved ones, always ... Kevin.
Thanks for calling attention to that. I would hope it's mentioned on the album... This is not Regina's official channel, so it doesn't necessarily mean that Regina herself has not been giving Ayub Ogada credit.
She probably got a doll as well Lolz. Nothing wrong with that. I played well with football and toy guns. Guess what? I'm a Dramatist; not Lionel Messi or some Army officer :)
Thank you, everyone, for the lovely comments, in respect Ayub Ogada. I posted it in the respect of how beautiful Regina Carter and others played it upon the Violin etc., Peace to you my Friends. Thank you for the enjoyments.
of course we can squash it away , it is truly genuine what you said . I respect very much your apology and value it a lot more than your first comment . I am paolo vassalli on fb with a picture of saint francis underwater ( i m a diver ) if you want to add me. take care.
AYUB OGADA GUYS!!!!!!! NOT YACOUBA SISSOKO .Kanye sampled the original version done by the original AYUB OGADA for yikes in his 8th album YE. he cites kenyan AYUB OGADA not SISSOCO
Well I sincerely and truly am sorry. I was being an ass. Hope we can squash this because life is too short to focus on negativity. We should focus on what we have in common instead of insulting one another. I was wrong and again, I am sorry.
I find it quite painful that the original artist of this song isn`t credited. It ought to be said that this song is by Ayub Ogada and that this is a cover of the same. Otherwise these details here insinuate that all this is the work of any other than Ayub Ogada. Musicians please learn to give credit where it is due. While the musicianship here is amazing and kudos for this arrangement it goes without saying that all this is practically senseless without the original piece by Ayub Ogada.
sorry buddy but I take jokes when they are funny and trust me I comment in italian french spanish and english and when it comes to write something in english and I get a reply from your fellow countrymen most of times they write insults . That s why I am a little bit sensitive about .Maybe we have just a different sense of humor

Fantastic masterpiece by Ayub Ogada. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Kenya has indeed lost a national hero. 🇰🇪 🙏🏾

lewis maiden exactly what I feel and envision. Hopefully this vibration reaches more and feel as we do
Lewis put it exactly the typical African spirit on the Plains of E Africa Kenya where this song began
This song should be taught in the syllabus in Kenya. Mad respect for Ayub and Regina for this awesome rendition.
LOVE LOVE LOVE !!!!!!!!!!!! Magique ....... MERCI REGINA !!!!!!
I have been playing Kothbiro in my classroom practically every day for five or six years - this version is lovely
Brilliant work Regina carter...(kothbiro by Ayub Ogada), this is the essence of life, most people don't understand, what it takes to be close to nature, Africa my pride, my all... we will forever tell our stories...
I love Regina... she's soo talented.. happy that I saw her perform in 2011 :)

Love Regina's talent. What a gifted jazz violinist!
Exceptionally beautiful to my heart and mind. It simply makes me feel good and grateful for life.

How soothing, justice done to the original kothbiro
Fantastic Music....Thank YOU
shouldn't it be mentioned that this song was originally by Ayub Ogada though and this is a cover?

She probably got a doll as well Lolz. Nothing wrong with that. I played well with football and toy guns. Guess what? I'm a Dramatist; not Lionel Messi or some Army officer :)

Sencillamente, precioso.
¡Esa es la frase más apropiada!
Thank you, Regina.

Hay musica que te lleva al centro de ti,y musica que te abandona en el superficie.Esta cancion seguro es el primero..
This song stopped me in my tracks....
It Should be mentioned that this is a cover of the song 'Kothbiro' originally by Ayub Ogada.
Job Seba better known as Ayub Ogada Kenyan nyatiti legend composed this song. Listen to the original
J'aime
This reminds me of the menu theme from Assassin's Creed 4
AYUB OGADA GUYS!!!!!!! NOT YACOUBA SISSOKO .Kanye sampled the original version done by the original AYUB OGADA for yikes in his 8th album YE. he cites kenyan AYUB OGADA not SISSOCO
Yacouba? I might be wrong but I thought Kothbiro was written by the Kenyan Ayub Ogada? I will stand rebuked, though.
Yes, the original is by Ayub Ogada from Kenya
right

The title of the song is in 2 word: Koth biro. Kindly correct
Relax. I am only kidding. Geezus! Can't anyone take a joke these days?

pfff why insulting? let me guess you are sad and live in the states
For me not anything as good as the original. The bass harmonies being dull and ploddingly overplayed and adding a kora doesnt create anything extra.
