I Found a Micro NYC Townhouse… and It’s 106 Years Old

  • This Super Old Townhouse Has a New Soul... and I kinda Like it! Its in a 106 year old upper west side building right by central park, and the entire place was completely redone. It still got its charm, but theres a new kitchen, laundry, and even a full basement with 3 rooms and a 2nd bathroom! This townhouse is really cool, but as with all nyc apartments not everyone will fall in love with it. Let me know what you think of this nyc apartment tour 👍

    Good morning all,
Love the second apt. Would turn the living room next to the kitchen into a formal dining room. Would use the upstairs bedroom with the most natural light as my living room. Downstairs, Would put a pool table & wet bar in the room with the little window. And the larger room in the back would be my home theater with surround sound system. I bet the acoustics are good down there. Great video tour. Get some rest.

If you can afford that apartment without roommates, you're winning in life! That'd be the way I'd do it too if I didn't need any. Unless you're planning on staying only a few years and can afford this though, you're better off buying something.

@@onlyzach1 Certainly. I agree with your assessment whole heartedly. I used to own a house in the suburbs, but I needed to take on housemates in order to afford to pay my mortgage & utilities. I hated having to rely on their financial assistance. Had to evict 2 of them and that was a tough situation. I've also had roommates in apartments; both negative & positive experiences.
Now that I'm collecting a Pension, I can afford to live alone. Thank God! Roommate are for the young. Once you reach a certain point in your life; old things are cast away.
I believe the rent for the apt in question is over $4,000 a month. Therefore, I would not be able to afford to live there alone. So this will have to remain in the "What if" column of my life.

VAULTED CEILINGS: In architecture, a vault typically refers to a self-supporting arched form, usually constructed of stone or brick, serving to cover a space with a ceiling or roof. This is what you see in the brick ceiling of the basement room. This allows heavy work to be done above.

The key to having a basement is to be at or near the top of a hill or incline. I live in a valley and it takes forever for my yard to dry out after it rains. Luckily, I have a crawl space and not a basement.

Yes, I feel as if the basement parts of these flats are only acceptable when they're connected to a good upstairs--so IF a flood happened you could easily escape and not be trapped down there. I think the bathroom is the nicest room in the place. Sure hope the landlord will put in a refrigerator. The 2nd is way better. That basement really is unique but no way can that last room be marketed as a bedroom with a window like that. The washer & dryer is a definite bonus. I love how Cash alawys says "Whoooaaaaahhh..no way" every time he enters an apartment that looks exactly the same as the previous one and is, as usual, way way overpriced.

I was thinking the same thing. All the apartments look like they used they same blueprints. The difference is: some are on one floor -- and others are two-stories. The scary wrought-iron railings - one slip and ur done!!!! The fake brick on walls and ceilings has to go. Kitchens are mini-size - and the refrigerator, stove and sink are on top of each other - with little counter-space. Rents are waaaaay too high. PASS!!!!

The first kitchen is so very 😢. Very sterile looking, so nah on this one other than the room sizes are great. The second one has a great kitchen and I would take the basement space. Rent the 2 upstairs rooms! Put my bed in one room, make a den out of the other. You have the half bath, plenty of storage and the laundry down there. Cash in the kitchen " this comes down, .......ok. 😂. And yes, we know you are not boring! Great video ☺️

I would use that smaller bedroom as an office and the downstairs as a hang out room.

People keep complaining about the bathrooms being next to the kitchens in these older buildings.. What you have to understand is that 100 years ago, most toilets were one per floor, shared by a bunch of tenants. Kitchen sinks were in the apartments... and people sometimes had tubs right there in the kitchen (put a door over the top to create a table) OR they went down to bath houses once or twice a week to bathe. When people started re-doing the plumbing so that apartments could have private bathrooms, they HAD to stick them next to the kitchens so that all the pipes would go through the same general area and hook up to external water taps

W 103rd street is very quiet, but also very central if you just walk a block to the west. Even more stuff on Amsterdam Ave. Everything nearby AND the park literally at your door step. Now, the apartment itself is a bit ... well ... iffy. The stairway is almost too narrow to be functional for a family (I'd have to put a gate on the top of those stairs, too, given where they are located and the risk of toppling ...), but, yeah, New Yorkers can make almost ANYTHING work. So ... who knows. Not much to say about the no-way-Jose LES apartment ... Nope.

WOW! I'm actually surprised by how large the Lower East Side apartment is and its rent! $3400/month split between two people is actually excellent for that particular area. Another surprise is that I did not really like the second apartment. I don't think the space was designed properly. I felt like everything was a hallway and dark. Nice finishes, though.

Hey Cash, I don't know if you have seen this yet. But a British UA-camr has done a reaction to a collaboration video you did with Erik Conover over on his channel on really small NY apartments. The channel is called Lav Luka. He was flabbergasted at the size of the apartments for the price!!!
