I have deathgripscales slim cut g10 on my full size griptilian. I bet if this knife becomes popular enough, maybe he'll do some for this to make it less of a chunker. I forget how much slimmer they are on my griptilian over stock, but it's noticeable in the hand in the best way.
I'll have to check that out, I've been trying to get the thumb hole version of the griptilian but it's never in stock. The only thing I don't like about that knife is the cheap looking scales.
I’ve had this knife since it released I have bigger hands and I like it. I’m waiting for the awt scales and the super deep pocket clip is a little much I love the blade shape and size . Great video and an actual discussion and not an unboxing .
Used to I would only carry a certain brand knife. Then I found this channel a little over a year ago, and found that Erica and I have similar tastes in knives and I believe in the use your stuff idea. This was about when I moved into Benchmade and spyderco. And I used to absolutely hate spyderco, they felt cheap. Thank you for all your work! Your reviews have helped me refine my judgement on knives and sharpening
Great video and first impressions!! I agree that the look of the scales aren’t super attractive, but I bet AWT scales will be sweet on it! It’s a bit too big for me but if Benchmade made a mini version I’d be all for it!
I had to laugh as I watched this because as you were going down the list of things that you did/didn’t like I agreed with EVERYTHING you said, lol. So true about having to spend more money to make the knife better, but we still do it, don’t we? I think sometimes we just have to admit that some knives are either too big/small for us and move on. I found that with the Redoubt, the Contego, the Super Freek (too big) and the 945, mini Bugout, and mini Grip (too small). It’s like I’m fricken Goldilocks, lol! Anyways, great review, Erica! I really enjoy your honesty and you come off as very approachable. Looking forward to more!
Seems like it’s a lot of good, and the bad will mostly be fixed by AWTs scales when they come out. The first full shot of it got posted on IG (not by AWT but they shared it, I believe) and it changed the look pretty drastically.
Nice thing about your first impressions is that it's for your planet and your hands. The bad and good. Will be nice to see it with proper scales. So far my only BM is about a 25 year old grip. Does look like a re-designed grip. Nice that it was gifted by Jerad / NK.
Perfect video, that actually answered some of my own concerns about getting this one. The size… It’s just a little too damn bulky for an actual “every day carry“.
I may get one when it’s a smaller version. My work is just too public and so much can be done with a pretty small knife. Even though I wear XL gloves. However I’m doing great, because I just used my thumb hole mini Grip to open a bunch of jewelry to put in the sales case. Who doesn’t love using knives?
Erin, you’re my primary reviewer. I’ve seen a few others but don’t bother anymore. Keep it real. Larrin Thomas is my starting point and notyouraverageedc is my step 2 to see how the theory performs in the real world.
Oh man my baby is asleep on me, but I'm sooooo excited to see this, because I got one recently, and I don't want to influence you with my experience with the CPMD2 or the ergonomics, but I am VERY excited you got one and will be using and talking about it. I put a 15.5 degree edge on mine, I will say that, and the bevel is SKINNY. Will watch as soon as I can!
Unless someone is really taken in by this design, be aware that within the same genre, but much better in every way is the Hogue RSK Mk1-G2 full size version. About the same price.
I do not understand the obsession with the Hogue Ritter at all. I think a lot of the difference is in peoples minds. They’re built just like a Grip, but they have a terrible pocket clip that manages to both not feel secure in the pocket, but also shred pocket hems because there’s file level checkering at the land. The axis bar and thumbstud on every model I’ve handled has been sharp and grabby, the black blade model was a little less bad for that, but still not something I’d call an improvement. I can see someone preferring it, but people act like it’s leagues better than the higher spec Grips or the Super Freek and it’s just…. Not.
I have one and like it overall as a work knife. But... the clip... I wouldn't mind it for an EDC knife. But, for a "work" knife, I'd much rather have a little bit of handle to grab on to when getting it out of my pocket. I don't want to have to dig for it with dirty hands or gloves on.
I love hearing your opinion on the new redoubt and SO TRUE about the taggedout. Like, I really like the knife, but lets just call a spade a spade lol. Also, I know it's an old model, but if you (or maybe Nicole?) would want to give the Chaparral a try, I have one I can send out (I liked it so much I bought two lol). Truly a "mini-Native 5", for me. For hard use, I'd definitely grab my native over it. But as a secondary super slicer, it's pretty compelling. It never really interested me in, but I bought it on a whim from a local shop. I wish I had tried it sooner.
That's a me size knife. I need to replace my Bugout, 940, and Grip and find myself a 943 but I just can't get past the batshit prices Benchmade charges these days
Glad you love it 😆 Hopefully after some aftermarket you get to enjoy it a bit more, guess I shoulda picked something a bit smaller
No you are more than generous sending this!!! I just have like... Very small hands! Haha thank you friend!
@@ericasedc im just messing with you i have the exact opposite problem lol

Yay! Awesome news my friend! Thanks for watching!
Hey great review! Love the redoubt and everything about it!

Excited to see what you think of the CPM D2
Idk why, but I really dig that knife
I haven’t had good luck with coatings overall. I just don’t buy them anymore. Great video.

So much of what I had to say after watching the video was visual, so I made a video comment on my channel: ua-cam.com/video/jAgO9WBKsbY/v-deo.html

Good point
I helped some refugees today to guide them to a cooking location and had a fun time together 😊
I could wait for the Immunity series lol
If you're interested in the Redoubt just get a Grizzly Ridge. Much better ergonomics. The GR has become my favorite Benchmade over my Bugouts
I’ve been waiting for this awesome

Agreed!
Sure seems like Benchmade is still trying to recover from the loss of the Ritter design to Hogue.
How do you feel about this knife one year later?
I gave it to a friend as a gift right after this video- so I have no opinion haha🥰
Por favor activa los subtítulos. Un saludo desde España. 👍💪🔥🔪
"this is not a review" I appreciate that mentality, there's another knife tuber that "reviews" knives in the same video he unboxes them lolz
Oh yes! That is a common theme in the knife world! Reviewing an unused knife!
Realmente creo que lo que no te gustan son tus pequeñas manos
I personally don't like it ugly knife
