This music video was made for the project called "March comes in like a lion meets BUMP OF CHICKEN"; Japanese rock band BUMP OF CHICKEN created a song named "Fighter" for the manga "March comes in like a lion", then Chika Umino, a author of the manga, created a short story about Rei Kiriyama who is a main character of "March comes in like a lion" inspired from the song.

After watching March comes in like a lion for a while, I quickly realized that the creators of this anime wanted to create something that would touch people's hearts, instead of something that'll sell. An indisputable gem.

This anime is such an underrated gem. Not a lot of people are talking about it right now, but in the years to come I hope it gets the love it deserves.

三月のライオンの作者さんは漫画家になりたての頃、原稿の持ち込みで各社をまわっていて不安に押し潰されそうな時にBUNP OF CHICKENの曲を何度もループして聴いていたって書いてたな。歌詞にはその頃の作者の心情も入っているような気がして感動した。

I love this kind of story, where the main character goes through positive character development. The more people they meet, and the more positive experiences they have, the better they become. Like Natsume Yuujinchou, my favorite series.

I found "Fune wo amu" (The great Passage? even if it's not what that means) that was great for a word lover like me. And tonight I ended up watching Sangatsu ni Lion. Its 2023 and I still find myself rewatching this show atleast once a year. I keep up with the manga and check in every day or two in hopes chica umino makes us another chapter. Its one of my favorites of all time and I don't think that will ever change.

This is my favorite anime of the Fall 2016 season and it's a shame that not a lot of people are talking about it.

I guess it's hard to talk about, not really the "hype-you-up" kind of show. Rather than about heroes and epic moments, the show tackles depression, inner anxiety, struggles, love/relationships, instead. And though very artistically done it's just one of those best appreciated reading alone (until the passage is finished) kind of thing.
Its almost 2021 now. Still haven't got over this masterpiece of an anime. And still this song touches me like it did at the end of the very first episode.
I genuinely wish more people watched this, the ones who haven't are missing something that's just too precious to miss. And it goes without saying, still looking forward to the S3 that never came.
@Matthew Murray same here, man. And ik it may sound exaggerated, but this show has played brilliant roles in developing my character, and instilled in me a profound sense of gratitude for the things that I should be grateful for. And I'm sure the ones who have seen the show can relate, deeply.
Season 3 will come. The studio just need to wait the manga to finish a certain arc so its not end in a cliffhanger.

父が3月のライオンが好きで産まれた時から3月のライオンの漫画が家にありました。漫画と同い年ということもあり、初めは分からなかった内容も成長と共にどんどん分かるようになり、3月のライオンは私の心のバイブルになりました。受験や部活の大会で辛かった大変だった時に3月のライオンを読みながら聞いたこの曲にはとても励まされました。久々に聞きに来たのですが、相変わらず素敵な曲で思いが溢れてしまい、自分語りのコメントをしてしまいました。
本当にこの曲と3月のライオンが大好きです。
As somebody who struggles to live because of mental health problems, i find Kiriyama Rei's character to be such a huge inspiration in real life. The visualization of his daily life as a daily struggle of treading that "violent, stormy sea" or that "gray-colored environment" is an accurate representation of his hardships in dealing with his loneliness and depression. To continue living while carrying such a heavy burden like that is no joke, tears always roll down in my eyes every single time Kiriyama narrates his tragic past in the anime.
One of the things that caught my attention, was how the colours, the music, all that surrounded Rei was so dark when he was depressed. I love it when Hina and his sisters appear in his life and everything keeps going more warm and colorful as the story grows. That and so many other things makes this anime one of my favorite.
Bump Of Chicken did an amazing work! I love the opening and ending they made.
Bump of Chicken always awakens some feelings within me.. Even when I don't understand all of the words, their music just touches something on the inside.. And it's like this with every song they make.. Their music reaches across the cultures, across the language barriers, it's just something so beautiful. I hope they continue making more and more beautiful songs like this.

この唄に出会ったのは、娘がトンネルの中でもがき苦しんでいた頃で、それからまだまだ長い長いトンネルに入ってました。いろいろ彼女なりに苦しんでいるのもわかっていたけど、中学生になった彼女に時にぶつかり、言い争いをしたりしながらも見守っていました。今、やっと長かったトンネルを抜け出し、新たな道を進んでいます。いよいよ、その時が刻々と迫っています。自分の力を信じて、やれる事をやって、悔いのないように。

この数年は心に余裕が無さすぎて、言葉がどんどん少なくなってきてたけど、藤くんの紡ぐ日本語に触れて、また短歌に挑戦してみようと思った。

re-watched the show again. It's still my most favorite anime. Emotions, Animations just hit different with 3月のライオン。Rei's development and his connections with the Kawamoto's warms my heart.
I Come back to it time and again and never fail to enjoy it, its one of my all-time favourites...but what astounds me the most is the music. Seriously, there isnt one bad OP or ED. They're all awesome and the soundtrack throughout is pitch perfect.
3月のライオン読んでいますが、香子姉さんが個人的に一番気になっている大好きなキャラです。零くん曰く、まさにこの漫画のタイトルを象徴する、ライオンのような美しさを持った、ヒビの入ったガラスのような香子姉さん‥救われてほしい。この曲を聴くたびに零くんと香子姉さんの切ない関係性を思い出します。

歌詞を改めて読み砕いてみると正に３月のライオンの主人公のことを歌ったもののようで、涙が止まらない。

指したあと闇に埋もれていく演出がすごくいい。渾身の一手でも後にならないと正しかったとわからないからねぇ。そして将棋に埋もれてた子供の桐山君が消えて、決意した顔で列車に乗り込むシーンはカッコよすぎる。
