I wound the spring until it stopped, like you did, but I let it unwind one turn before putting it back together. The ‘kick’ is supposed to give 30-45 seconds of running time. With the lower tension on the spring, the ‘kick’ is giving it 90-110 seconds run time. The clock is working perfectly. I also reinstalled it with an on/off switch and inline 5A fuse.
i had one that did that.. i gave it a bath in PB blaster and it started working about 30 minutes later.. if it doesnt start working after that its never going to work

Damn dude that was awesome putting those distributor points in the clock! Kudos!
the clock still works
I'm 60s GM nut.. to me clock must work and work when car is off.. just me. Cool looking inside and seeing it work
i agree but thats why they all dont work anymore.. because they stayed on all the time.. mine still work years after that video
Old-style ignition distributors have a capacitor to keep the points from burning. I wonder if a capacitor would stop the arcing problem here.
Did the larger point's weight affect accuracy of the clocks time movement (slower)?
the points have nothing to do with that
@@chriscraft77022copy, was thinking change in unsprung weight on the spring...guess not
What paint would you recommend for those needle arms on the clock ?
people use testors model car paint from hobby section.. their silver and orange for gm dashes
Chris Craft I noticed both needles are two different paints would you paint them the same color.
no
Chris Craft Fvcken Brilliant 👏
the clock still works to this day.....
Question, If I wind the spring up manually and the clock doesn't start to work / tick does that mean i have something else wrong with my clock?
i had one that did that.. i gave it a bath in PB blaster and it started working about 30 minutes later.. if it doesnt start working after that its never going to work
Chris Craft , so no power is needed? the spring tension should make it actuate? thanks!
I took apart a one from a 62 Chevy and the mechanism looks the same
my clock still works it should be the same
Why not just put a battery shut off on battery to turn off power when not using car?
