For me the biggest difference on the headsets is actually not the range at which footsteps etc. are heard, but the amount of background noise dampening. I had the impression that i can hear others basically at similar ranges (what your video seems to confirm), but for example on the GSSh-01, i can hear absolutely every fart and mosquito (but footsteps also), whereas ComTacs filter out such noise way better, and I can hear footsteps in a more distinct way. That is my impression so far after the latest patch.

I feel like the game has evolved past how far the headsets can pick up movement. I think its reduction to ambient noise is now the most important factor considering it sounds like we’re in the middle of a hurricane when outside. Also each weapon sounds completely different with each headset on. A difference of 5-10 meters is nothing compared to the annoying chirping of birds and wind howl.

Gigabeef's results show that the Liberator has one of the best hearing range and ambient reduction but according to Sheef it has one of the worst hearing range and 'okay' ambient reduction? I dont really care about absolute numbers, more so their relative performance compared to the other headsets
I love that they did, less crabs and people scared sitting in corners because they hear someone near by. More people are moving because they hear less.

I was using a generic set of hyper x for awhile & I felt this way, once they got close to me I couldn’t distinguish very much. But I ended up snagging a pair of audiophile headphones for the purpose of listening to music, & tried them on tarkov… oh my god I could pin point place them at every given moment. Highly recommend. The larger sound space made such a big difference. I personally use the sennheiser 660s with a dac/amp, though there are more price friendly options such as beiyerdynamic DT series
tbh i feel like it's all about personal preference since as you're walking/running you're not gonna hear anything that isn't 10 meters away from you. i personally enjoy m32 on maps without a lot of metal and especially without snow since it makes noises a lot louder, they are so cheap too, sordins and tacsports are probably still the best headsets for sound/performance/price tho, still haven't tried liberators tho
Hey just a heads up, I think the lower ambient noise reduces grenade noise such as the pin being pulled, crack in the air etc. Since using the Comtac 5 and 6's, I've been getting caught out with grenades way more and I think the lower ambient noise is why. Going to continue using Comtac 4s unless its raining
I was going to say, when behind do walking at multiple distances at the 4 cones in front, sides and back. Might need three people for it but it should be just as solid.
You shouldn't measure the distance by the frontal distance he is running, the rangefinder works in a very low frequency, so the distances may jump a lot. When you find a Max Distance, he should run horizontaly maintaining the X distance, so you can check with more precision.
Could you also include the comtac V's that attach to a helmet like the RACs? Also, any opinions on the difference in how much they amplify the sounds you want to hear?
You do I did the exact same testing and uploaded the video on my channel like 12 hours before him. And we did way more checking to make sure the testing was right we heard footsteps up to 58 with razors
Because it's a simple subjective comparison video, not a scientific analysis of Tarkov audio. Other content creators do stuff like that like GigaBeef etc. Sheef aint got time for all that...hes too busy slaying bussy and wrecking PMCs...

Bruh i swear im audio blind at under 10m and above 50 regardless of what i use.
Some areas have occlusion zones which yeah makes hearing things WAY harder or impossible.
The headset you have irl makes a huge difference as well.

Are Exfil Comtacs 5 and 6 same as normal ones?
I'd assume so, but no reason to ever use them as you lose the ear protection that you get when you run the regular headset underneath.
