OK, that was absolutely riveting/incredible footage. I would never have thought that a bird would be intelligent enough to not only realize that it's chick was in big trouble, but also to actually figure out a way to get it out of trouble and save it. Amazing. P.S. This nest site is still not a great place, however. As I post this on June 29, 2022, all three chicks from the 2022 season are likely dead after jumping VERY prematurely from the nest due to being tortured by black flies. Very sad.
Thank you. Yes, I saw that about the three chicks jumping out because of those black flies. It was very sad. I thought I saw that the parents knew where at least one of the chicks were/are.
It was a trying day for us all. But thankful they found the one that fell out of the nest and both are banded and back in the nest box! Both are males.
