@@MJC19 The big problem for any reform on Britain's railways was due to the Directors having seats in Parliament or the Lords, and having poweful friends who could lobby against any legislation to better regulate the railways. I presume there was some difference of opinion amongst the directors over the various cuts. I would be interested in knowing who the directors were who instigated the cuts. Was Rathbone one of them? This is an excellent study of the strike. Thank you. I look forward to all your broadcasts.

is there a particular reason why these folk have been avoiding getting the vaccine for a virus that has killed a frankly ludicrous number of people? More vaccinated folk means less deaths or permanent disabilities as a result of the 'rona. A majority of anti-vax rhetoric out there is often proveably false, or based on misinformation, or incredibly petty. It takes about ten minutes to read through the wiki page for vaccine skepticism or to peruse the sources it cites. It's been pretty well proven to be a low risk, functional vaccine, and i can see no realistic excuse besides some very rare and specific medical conditions (which could very easily be verified and exempted by a doctor) which a miniscule number of folk have. Really appreciate the reporting of these little known (to the main stream) events that lead to the strike and the strike itself
In the UK, nothing much has changed in the attitude of the Ruling Classes toward the Working Classes.
Yet they continue to vote for the toffs!
Was thinking that myself. Its the same the whole world over its the poor that get the blame the rich get all the glory ain't that a blinking shame
Same in the US. Has anyone noticed how living standards have gone down since the collapse of communism? Think about it.
About time someone told this historical event on UA-cam and who better!

Sounds a bit like working conditions currently in the United States. Had hell to pay for going Union on my outfit.
The best possible thing you could do. But beware: the owners hate you.
great to find out more about the working circumstances and wages here that lead to the strike. thank you for this as always!
I m surprised the Duke of Wellington didn't turn the troops out like he did at Peterloo!!😣

1836 , what did they strke The first WEEK they had railways or is This horse drawn
By 1836 there had been mainline railways in Britain for *six* years. A steam operated, fully timetabled passenger and goods service.
