Love the “coupon” aspect of the card. The Digital Credit, Uber Credit, and Walmart+ cover the fee by themselves, then all the travel perks make it even better.
This has to be put in context as it only covers those if you already had those expenses. But if you take on those expenses because you have the card then you can't minus this value from the annual fee
I downgraded my card long time ago. Platinum>Gold>Green... next step is cancellation. They have ramped up the AF and watered down the benefits. I'll keep my Blue Cash Everyday because I like the card + AMEX has the best Purchase & warranty protection of any other card that I have used.

I got my platinum through Resy a few years ago. The SUB was 125k points +6mo of 10x MR points on dining! It really worked out for me as my gf and I did a lot of traveling and tried new restaurants everywhere. When the 6mo ended I had racked up 200k points! Its still my first and only AMEX card though - real shame the new rules mean I can't get a SUB for gold or green anymore 😥
The card needs a 1.5-2 MR category to compete with other travel cards it’s and enough to depend on the gold card to cover your bases with the most important thing about trips dining
Their Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance SCREWED ME!!! I charged a $14,000 Alaska cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage. We got covid halfway through. They denied our claim because the it was not a ROUND TRIP CRUISE. We made the mistake of not booking our airfare back to Vancouver on the same card.

Good video. However I think with the Equinox credit, you have to keep in mind the kind of customers they are catering to. Amex is a NY/SF/LA card... Big, sort of dense cities, people who use Uber often, etc. Last time I checked Lifetime had 1 location in NYC, 0 in San Francisco, 1 in the city of Chicago... They require huge footprints vs Equinox that builds in the urban core. Lifetime is a Sapphire Reserve match for sure, but Equinox is a better fit with the other benefits of the Amex platinum.
Yep I totally see that perspective, too 👍 There are several in the NY area with more in development: www.lifetime.life/locations-map.html?query=New+York%2C+Nueva+York%2C+EE.+UU. Also several in the Chicago area: www.lifetime.life/locations-map.html?query=Chicago%2C+Illinois%2C+EE.+UU.
The other offer if have scwab platinum transfer points to your broker account , think its 10% bonus, Just on 5x flights alone 13,900 of normal flight spend only is break even for just that benefit ignoring clear in case your flying out of small airport like tucson etc.
Great summary! As annoying as the coupon book approach is, in this case I've been able to get enough positive value over the fee even before lounge/status benefits to make it worth the keeping around, at least for now. One thing I'm not sure I follow: Why is the $200 credit for FHR/THC bookings only a C because of its "limited use," but the FHR/THC portal itself is ranked way higher at an A, despite being no less limited? Especially because the $200 credit is sometimes the only thing that has many people even considering the more expensive FHR/THC cash prices.
The THC + FHR programs have been around a lot longer than the $200 Hotel Credit. The programs themselves offer benefits that would normally require mid to high tier elite status in other programs (levels that often require spending thousands per year). On their own, the benefits are useful. Furthermore, these programs are not central to offsetting the annual fee for most people as no direct statement credit is issued. On the other hand, whenever I see things like "hotel credit" or "airline fee credit" that cannot be used for any hotel or airline I prefer to fly, then that's a major restriction on the value I place on it. In addition, the $200 "Hotel Credit" is a direct statement credit that can help reimburse the card's annual fee. But, requiring me to book hotels that are often $300 - $600+ per night to do that also decreases the value heavily.
I agree, the $200 credit should rank higher. You need to stay somewhere overnight anyway. The cost for the FHR/THC hotels are $250+/night, and there's some flexibility in choice to most desinations. I'm gonna be a snob and say that if you think the cost of accommodations is too high, you're probably not the target consumer to have that particular Amex card.
Well I feel ripped off I only got offered the 80K bonus offer but Walmart plus along with the digital credit and a couple other things will pretty much pay most of the yearly fee along with a few other things so it's all good I guess
I actually find the $200 airline credit super valuable. I choose delta as my airline and then use the card to buy guest passes at the sky club when I travel with my girlfriend. So it’s effectively an extra 4 guest passes for free per year

Have a >750 score, zero negatives, own home, no debt, very high income, no balances, about $250K in current CC credit lines, and yet got rejected by Wells Fargo for the free autograph due to "high number of inquiries". We often don't get around it. However, some banks aren't as sensitive to higher inquiry counts (Amex is one of them). Wells Fargo denying for high inquiries doesn't surprise me (same for U.S. Bank, Barclays, and Capital One).

@@MarkReese Wow I have not checked in a while. That is a nice benefit if one can afford and not as expensive as people think and one of the few benefits that make the AF worth it. Will have to check.
The Saks benefit isn't the best but they do have stuff for $50 or less. For example, I recently got a set of two Thule packing cubes. Or if you can't find anything you like, you can always use for birthday or Christmas gifts. Also, you get $150 statement credit per year if you have a corporate AMEX too. Not the greatest, but if you fit into that demographic, it at least reduces the annual fee.

The cruise benefit is nothing special. By using this program, you're forgoing normal travel agent incentives, such as 8%+ back from Costco Travel. You're also better off paying with Chase for superior travel protections, with the CSR, CSP, IP, or IHG. You might get a bottle of champaign or wine tasting on an expensive luxury line, but typically it is just a plate of hors d'oeuvres, or chocolate covered strawberries. Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, MSC, not even in the program. The only example I can think of where it come out ahead: 5 nights exactly in a suite, heading to or from Alaska at the beginning or end of the season, which is heavily discounted, so Amex's 5 night suite offer pushes ahead of travel agent incentives. 4 nights is too short, and 6 nights is too expensive yet again...

@MarkReese the travel cc's have all been over saturated and diluted the value. Most lounges are really not worth the wait in line or the overcrowding that still happens. Also, the perks like clear are not a perk when i get itbfor free through my airline. CC companies have gotten too greedy and now charge so much in af that it isn't worth it. Also wanted to say great post, very informative and to the point. This is great information to many that are learning the CC game and benefits.

Fair enough. Though if lounge access is "not great at all" on this card, then it's even worse on other cards.
Hi Mark, I have a few Amex cards. If I decide to close only one of them, do I lose all the points generated with that card, or do they remain with the membership rewards of my other cards?
As long as you have 1 Amex card open that earns Membership Rewards points, all points will be preserved.
Thank you so much 💪🏻
Can you make a video about freedom flex q2 2024 categories. I think they announced today.
No, I've decided to cut back on videos about news / updates.
@@MarkReese OK but I have one question it’s a quarter 2 freedom flex get 5% on restaurant and hotels and Amazon. so when it comes to restaurant, we already getting 3% so bonus 5% and 3% are we getting 8% back on restaurant or I’m wrong only 5%
@@Gurwinderparmar - They stack, but it's 7% at Restaurants. That's because Chase issues rewards like this...
5% = 1% Base + 4% Bonus
Since the CFF normally earns 3% at Restaurants, that would be 1% Base + 2% Bonus.
The Base 1% earn is shared.
So...
3% Restaurant as standard + 5% Restaurant for Q2 ...but with the same 1% Base shared between both ... yields 7%.
Here's the official Press Release:

This was nothing more than an AD for Max Rewards.
This was nothing more than a comment from someone who focuses on a 1 min. 41 sec. ad and calls it "the whole video."
@@MarkReese I actually watched the entire video then called you out.
I don’t understand why all you guys rag on the Saks credit. Use it on cosmetics and skincare. I would love to get that credit.
