Hello Kiril You’re absolutely right. The finish you get from the Japanese stone is much finer than the honing wheel, + you get a total even bevel, because it’s still fixed in the jigg 🙂
It’s the Japanese stone 4000 grit. I use the stone grader, but other says it will contaminate the fine stone. Well, I’ve never had that issue, but sounds plausible though.

Hello Raymond Thanks for the question. Well, I think I decided to set the angle at 22 degrees (2 x 14, if I remember correctly), and from that proceeded. And next, you don’t have to strop after using the Japanese stone, as it is way more fine than the honing paste. Among a few things I did wrong in this video years ago, I used way too much much time on sharpening it, and I now know that when sharpening with a Tormek, you have to do the following: 5-10 continuous passes each on each side, then followed by 5-10 strokes one side at the time (switching side every single pass), and so you keep minimising the burr until it brakes off leaving a super razor sharp edge. Does that make sense?
what a delight to finally see someone dressing and using a wet stone, and have it traveling towards the blade as it should. most of the so called tool sharpening videos make me wince when i see sparks flying of the metal on a dry stone that is revolving far far to fast.
Always confused me that many knife sharpeners sharpen away from the edge, yet machininsts sharpening drills/lathe tools etc sharpen properly towards the tool.
@@OllieVK a lot of water stones are soft enough that the edge digging in can actually be a problem, much as you wouldn’t strop a blade on leather towards the edge. I would be surprised if the sharpening tools a machinist used were soft like that.
I am just getting into making knives, my Dad always used to use a wet stone hence I have bought one, however what was the device you used to measure the angle?
Great video! I’m still learning with the T8. My results with the SG-250 and leather and paste are so so (not razor sharp) maybe because my skill isn’t there. If I intend to get the SJ-250, is there any reason I should consider the extra fine diamond 1200? You went straight from the SG-250 to the SJ-250 and it worked great. That seems like a solution.
Hey you! Stop beating that defenseless old knife!! 🤬
The worst knife beater ever! 😅
I felt violated watching it!
That’s how it is 😄

Wow! What a sharp result! Respect to real Pro! 👍👍👍
Never seen cutting a paper like this; …. You’re a Master 😌
Tomato and paper shaving, this is a first for me!
Watching this makes you want to have such a round, self-turning & watering whetstone.

Great video. I enjoy my Tormek Super Grind 1200.
Old but gold ❤️
let's agree, he has the discipline and an innovative tools.
You have a good eye.. well done
Still a strop would have made it even sharper.. not entirely sure why.

Muy buena máquina. Es la mejor manera de afilar cuchillos porque no calienta la hoja y no afecta al tratamiento térmico. Exelente vídeo 👍👍👍👏👏👏

So, you didn''t use Tormek honing wheel, please tell me - is it Japanese water stone better for finish vs honing with leather wheel and Tormek paste
Hello Kiril
You’re absolutely right. The finish you get from the Japanese stone is much finer than the honing wheel, + you get a total even bevel, because it’s still fixed in the jigg 🙂
This is skill. Having the equipment means nothing without it.
But it helps....
....the chef choice is good enough.

What grit disc you used??
330/1000 and then the 4000 japanese Stone
@@formgjortbyJonasAls thnx fr rply
what was that last grit though
4000 grit :)
I need one of these, my God is that satisfying
What was the second wheel you switched to? And you still used the grader on the second wheel?
It’s the Japanese stone 4000 grit. I use the stone grader, but other says it will contaminate the fine stone. Well, I’ve never had that issue, but sounds plausible though.
Does it sharpen curved knives?
the same water from 220 grit to 4000 grit?
Please, what is the grain of the stones used?
300, 1000 and 4000
Excellent, precise.
I didn’t know there was a machine like this.
What should be the angle?
I sharpen 20-25 in total.. 10-12,5 per side.

THANKS FOR THE GOOD VIDEO. for starting sharpening business do you think this Tormek system is good?
That hurt my ears when you ran it over the tormek wheel! hahaha. Great video!!
The way it dented makes it look like extremely soft steel. How is it with AEB-L at a 61 RC or some of the properly HT'd CPMs
I have no idea to be honest. But, it is a cheap knife. Should try some more expensive ones then.
Wait . . . Why'd you remove the serrations you added at the beginning?
Yeah, bad idea I guess 😄
Hi there thinking get myself one of them machine at some point do you have any tips 4 me

Excelente demostración gracias por compartir.y como cuánto cuesta una afilador como esa?
What was the black rectangle thing you put on the grid in between sharping ?
can you sharp a machete using this machine?
Hello Su- Fulan.. Of course it depends on the size.. If the jigs doenst fit it, you can sharpen it freehand.. But it takes a bit practice ;)

What stone did you put on at the end

how many degrees?
But can it cut cans?
What grain is the white stone ? I have a Tormek t7

why should the stone travel towards the blade?
@@pjttaylor7186 it stops the unnecessary burr on the honed edge. and when that burr is rubbed of it leaves lots of tiny blunt points

well done. I noticed you used the small jig for the knife. Any reason why? I'm new to Tormek-got my machine last week. Serious learning curve!
