@@CampeadorHUN Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can't obtain a sword free of maintenance. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. Even those who maintain and design swords are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.
As to the Berbekucz steel wasters: I can recommend them, from my own experince. My club uses them since 2007. I had a Ballinderry copy made by Berbekucz back in 2009. A stage combat weapon, a bit heavier and made out of 57SiCr7 spring steel. It has seen more than 700h of training, blade on blade, against shield, reenactment armour, droppping on stone, dirt, mud and gravel during Living History events and so on. Even filthy Open Historical Monument Day visitor peasants touched my steel! :P It is still one of my favourite training swords. With some care after use, those blades literaraly last forever. Weapons from other Eastern European makers broke during training sessions and even public presentations. Berbekucz blades: never. Not once from 2007 until now, with more than 200 different participants, and blades from stage combat style, historical reproductions to HEMA wasters. I recently ordered a similar Messer with wooden handle which should arrive within a few days. I'm confident it will be durable in HEMA practice. Here in Europe their blades are known for good heat treatment. And they cost a little less than in Canada, I fear.
Hey skall I'm not sure but around 1:40 to 2:05 I think you may have missed some editing unless you just figured it wasn't a big deal .I'm not complaining just thought I'd point it out man
I first bought wasters from Purpleheart Armory in 2000! Still have my wood wasters from them, including a longsword made out of actual purple heart! Christian switch from using purple heart Wood to hickory because purple heart if it breaks tend to breaks it sharp jagged angles which isn't safe so I only use it for solo training. but over the years dealing with them I have to admit excellent customer service very friendly great people and I wish them the best for the future!
It’s kind of wild how, even though he messed up, he just kept doing the same line and have it not be awkward. It’s weird to see without that movie magic
My brother and I bought some polypropylene (I think) katanas, dirt cheap for like 25€. We thought those were indestructible, too. Gave them to our sister so her husband and son can play with them. When we visited them the next week, her husband looked like the cat that ate the canary and one of the swords lay on the living room table, broken into three pieces :D
Skall... is everything ok? Maybe you are a bit overburdened, I don't know... but what I do know is we all agree that if you need a break from work, you just go for it! Great video. The beginning gave me quite a nice laughing 😂 and that's ok. Wish you the best.
If you are into messer atm, would you have a look at the new messer models by sigi forge. They have a normal messer and a kriegsmesser. Really love that you show and practice messer. Maybe it will gain more popularity in the future.^^
I have the first generation of the steel messer and i've had it for about two years now? maybe more. It's holding up pretty well. I also got to handle the version intended to be sharpened when it was sent to me by accident. It was pretty nice.
Hey Skall, don't forget to take care of yourself, okay? You're a great guy and you need to take care of yourself. You left a few extra takes in and just remember that you're human too.
I’ve been using the Purple Heart steel technique trainer Longsword for just over a year. The only issue I’ve had with it has been a few minor nicks in the guard. Otherwise they make excellent products for a reasonable price
The shame is that I had the Purple Heart Kriegs Messer, but mine did break. From the one I had, I was able to see that they took out considerably more material than necessary to fit the guard, since it was secured by having part of it going through the blade, and the stress from a flat parry was enough to break it right at the guard.
I recomend rubber tubing, diameter depends on blade approximate 2cm (~1 inch). take a tubing and make a cut on long axis just insert blade and ductktape it.
Hey I was actually interested in these practice swords from purple armory! What timing. Probably going to go with the black fencer, but at least I know they're completely maintenance free!
skall? could you make a video about how knights would collapse under heat in their armour? because of wearing all those layers of gabbison and plate and ofc the helmets what limited their breathing.
I jumped to the link and saw they come in both right- and left-handed. My immediate thought was, 'This sounds like the old right-handed hammer joke.' Then it dawned on me: Doofus, the nail on the guard is there to protect the knuckles of the sword hand - if you're left-handed, of COURSE you're going to want the nail over your left knuckles. Welcome to brainfart Thursday.
Have you reviewed the Penti synthetic longswords or arming swords? I would love to see a comparison of those too. I liked the comparison to steel but especially the blackfencer. I wish that would have been more in depth. Maybe a whole video on the comparison of current synthetics like the new blackfencer and penti IV and others that are out there. Enjoyed the video. Cheers 🍻
Since their steel messers have no pommel, maybe in the nylon version they could remove it or replace it with plastic one and fit under $100. I think that "hockey stick tape" could work nicely for the blade (reapplied for each session ofc).
