Ive watched this twice now and its clear that one of the main reasons Aikido doesnt get the respect it deserves is that people do not understand the majority of the system is aimed at arrest and control NOT sport fighting.
100% agree but modern aikido training practices are also devolving the art into something largely cooperative
“Do” is a “Way”…(Tao)
and in the “phrase”
Ai Ki Do
“Ai”meaning
Love,
(Lovers join)
“Ki” means
vital Lifeforce energy, (but that is a feeling of true vitality)
AiKiDo means
“The joining feeling way”
-and nowhere in the word or phrase is the word gentle Or meaning of gentleness…
an interesting take, good points I think
@@nikosskeptikos6295
Forming the “Ai Ki body”
-The joining feeling with the opponent
A huge thanks to Azu from Aikidoflow for doing the interview and of course Tristan from the Modern Aikidoist Podcast for making this happen. Check out both their channels @Aikidoflow @SpiritAikido
100%
been following Aikidoflow for a few years now. good fun stuff.
yes, I sometime raise an eyebrow at some of the slightly clickbait-y titles etc but I totally understand the need to get noticed in a competitive environment - great content
definitley does
really good podcast Tristan appreciate you sharing
that's right on you tube you will 100% find these same spam artists online who go around making useless comments that aikido doesn't work try that bullshit on me . go away wake up smell the coffee
its all about who is doing what when and how, not the name given to the supposed art.
That's right it's not verious arts what is at fault it's that practitioner who is actually learning it 👍
Absolutely. And misinformation is spread by people with limited experience that see another's opinion on the Internet and take it for their own because it reflects their own bias, without bothering to make any depth of research.
Aikido doesn't work!
It is not an useful self defense system!
You either didn't watch the video, or you are a troll. Or both. Why waste everyone's time, including your own?
Cretin...
Because you either never trained in it or you don't train hard enough
Obviously you've never been on the receiving end of a good aikido technique meant to do damage.
One of the best interviews I've seen on Aikido in a long time. appreciate his straight forward remarks too
thank you
One aspect of aikido that is overlooked is that we train with the bokken and jo -- both priceless in learning distance & interval.
Wing chung and Aikido blends realy well. Like karate and judo is a great mix
Absolutely - I think finding valuable lessons from anywhere is good if it suits your personal requirements! Basically what this channel is all about.
100%
Aikido won't work in UFC because it's meant for self defense but in the streets yes
Aikido isnt a sport, so yes. Did you actually watch the video? LOL
Did you comment without watching the video?
If you apply hard style of aikido it will work, if soft style it will also work and save your opponent from being paralysed...
hmmm. I've been training iwama style for 27 years, and more recently Aikijutsu.. tbh if you pressure test 95% of traditional Aikido it fails. however if you take a pragmatic approach and apply the principles supposedly taught by the traditional kata, the "techniques" disappear but the function returns. soft flowing Aikido mis utterly useless against a resistant opponent (in my experience)
Does Azu still teach if so what dojo if I had my time again I would mix aikido with ju jitsu training
Seems to be a common theme nowadays a lot of people thinking the same
I have found that i did Aikido for 5 years or so twenty years ago and was on a door at the same time. My natural instinct was to use boxing Jujitsu and Street fighting. When i consciously tried to use aikido it didnt work. However, over the years i have successfully used aspects of Aikido in varying situations. Once to hold a violent offender whilst waiting for the police for over 15 minutes all the while the guy trying to get free! Used it a couple of times to take attackers to the floor in town with Ikkyo. So its useful when you dont think and just do it. Clubs need to stress test their techniques constantly with genuine modern day attacks. Also remember you cant do a technique without striking first. To stun the attacker and then execute the throw or lock.
totally agree about pressure testing, def lacking in most modern martial arts not just Aikido - I think the main point here is to use what is appropriate - in a world where everything is filmed you cant just punch someone unconscious anymore, and sometimes restraining moves offer a better option. Sometimes.
@@AIKIDOSILVERDALE yes I agree. The most effective thing I have ever used though that does everything. Ends fights, is passive aggressive, restrains, controls, rear naked choke, standing or on the floor.
The most effective response is often the thing the practitioner is most comfortable with
A very earnest interview, I appreciate his honesty.
He's a decent guy (they both are!)
Aikido too many moves with no pressure testing. Thee best move simple move technique that works. In the street collar grap a resistance opponent.
Not all Aikido is the same. Compare a ki Aikido group to a group that is Aikijutsu based, two totally different Animals. What the guys from Aikidflow, and waht we do compared to the standard Aikikai club, again very different. We pressure test, we spar, we also have students that are corrections officers and law enforcement, so what they train gets used daily.
I'm only a minute into this, and already I like this guy.
It's worth watching he's an honest and upfront guy and Tristan always has interesting guests on this podcast
In my opinion aikido is great for police cause they can neutralize and put handcuffs then
I have had quite a few police and prison guards as students over the years and can confirm it's usefulness.
@@AIKIDOSILVERDALE good work osu!
👌
The military do the same thing.
What a nice guy, and a fantastic conversation. Learnt a lot from this. Can we have more interviews?
In the pipeline!
I feel that aikido is good to be paired with other aspects, like adding a sight to a rifle, by itself, the sight is pointless, unless u have the rifle
I understand your point in principle but the problem is aikido like all martial arts varies so much from club to club. There is no way to say any are "is this" because it isn't constant.
This was great guys - that hour flew past! watched it in three bits but was fascinating to hear from someone that uses different aspects of his Aiki in a professional environment.
Thanks Clarity
impressive
i ve heard this from several people thatuse Aikido as an arrest and control methodology. great interview
Police are trained in the group gang tackle -- the blue surge. One cop in our dojo said that his most useful technique was ikkyo ura. On a bridge, he saved a jumper using ikkyo ura.
makes sense@@gezortenplotz
Not really cool to re-upload other people's videos.
Actually is is cool - completely cool in fact. Tristan gave us permission of course, we reposted a lot of the earlier episodes to give them a boost and Tristan has interviewed Sensei Dunken too, we are part of the same organization.
So a normal person would have done some research first before making a public accusation... Or just read the other comments FFS!
@@nikosskeptikos6295 You need to simmer down, halfwit. There's nothing in the comment section that states or implies that permission was granted to use this video; if you had read the comments yourself you would know this and could have avoided your current embarrassment. And if an entire UA-cam video is re-titled and re-uploaded by a different channel without any link to the original video and without any mention of permission being granted, I have every reason to assume that permission was not granted.
@@profd65 not even the Huge thanks to the people that made the video?? back peddling now on a ill-researched and incorrect accusation of copyright violation still makes you looks stupid lol
@@nikosskeptikos6295 What "huge thanks," pinhead? Where? And I'm still searching for the thing in the comment section that you say proves Aikido Silverdale was given permission to use this video. I guess stupidity isn't your only problem; you also hallucinate.
And what "research" (a big word for someone like you) did YOU do to determine Aikido Silverdale had a right to use this video, before declaring that he had such a right? Did you ask the copyright holder? Did you ask UA-cam?
