  • Lady Stoneheart is a character from George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, specifically introduced in the epilogue of the third book, "A Storm of Swords." Lady Stoneheart is the resurrected and vengeful form of Catelyn Stark, who was killed during the infamous Red Wedding. After her death, Catelyn's body is retrieved from the river by Beric Dondarrion, the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners. Using the last of his own life force, Beric sacrifices himself to resurrect Catelyn. However, the process changes her, and she becomes a silent, grim figure seeking revenge against those who wronged her family. In the TV adaptation, "Game of Thrones," Lady Stoneheart was notably omitted. The reasons for her exclusion only recently been explicitly stated by the show's creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. They suggest that they may have wanted to streamline the narrative or felt that introducing another resurrected character might complicate the story. Additionally, it could have been a decision to keep certain plotlines more focused or to avoid revealing future events in the book series before they were published. Regardless, Lady Stoneheart's absence from the show remains a notable divergence from the books. #gameofthrones #asoiaf #houseofthedragon

I absolutely do not agree with the showrunners that Catelyns resurrection as Stoneheart „lessens“ the impact of the Red Wedding. It‘s not like she just wakes up like nothing happend (like Jon eventually does in the show). What comes back of her is monsterous husk fueled by hate and vengence, so in a way far worse than if she just stayed dead.

And the return of Catelyn shows that the actions of the Freys and Boltons have consequences as well. Freys and Boltons in the show suffered nothing throughout s4 and 5 then suddenly they got taken out in the end of s6 because the plot felt like it. Meanwhile, in the books, there were always the continuous resistance from the pro-Stark factions after the red wedding.

Those that have read the books its been clear that Jon resurrecting is less about him coming back, but how much of him dose so. Fan point to how much effort went into(an entire chapter) that the belief that wargs can survive the death of their body by going into their animals is in fact complete true as the sort of work around for Jon suffering lesser effects to coming back to life rather then him coming back at all.
For laddy stone heart is more a question of what happens when she meet her children, Catyle died thinking that only her daughter Sansa was left and married to a Lannister. What will Lady Stone heart do when she meets Sanas again, when she meets aArya , Rickon , and Brandon? What will the children think of whats left of their mother?

I don't buy it Lady Stoneheart was the wrong decision, if anything it should have been Jeyne Westerling at the wedding and turned to Lady Stoneheart. You could say that doesn't make any sense but how does Catelyn turning into Lady Stoneheart make sense either? It ruins all the Red Wedding had accomplished.

Yes resurrection does exist in the GOT universe but there is a twist to it, every time you are brought back from the dead a part of you is taken away while the other part of you remains, so yes Jon will return but he won’t be the same one we remembered

I think the fact that Stonehearts impact on the story can be summarized in a paragraph kind of justifies her removal.
Plenty of cut characters and plot lines can be removed but until we get another book Lady Stoneheart doesn’t really warrant an appearance in the show.

dont mind her being cut at all.
as an artist, I love the visual description of her, and liked to see it. But story-wise, 10 episode seasons... you gotta make choices, cant think of any storyline n character scenes i'd cut for her. The vengeance arc is sort of redundant already.
I can think of at least 4 characters id like to see in the 8 seasons, that would fit the constraints.
You should make a vid on characters n story-lines you would REPALCE on the show, cuz often fans think TV productions have infinite time n budget, and think of how storytelling is different from these mediums.

They replaced LSH with scenes of Brienne doing next to nothing for about half a season and Jaime going to Dorne which felt clunky. They could have easily used that screentime for LSH and all 3 of them.

In hindsight due to how the show ended we as fans wanted to see a lot of cut characters, Stoneheart, Aegon VI, Jon Connington are all fascinating characters that fleshed the story out. If we are to believe the original plan was meant to be 10 seasons than it could have worked. Sadly we all know what happened.

It's my belief that Arya will meet Lady Stoneheart when she returns to Westeros to take revenge against the Freys. The contrast between mother and daughter who have twisted their morality and now entirely devoted themselves to revenge may make Arya reconsider her purpose in life, especially after her time when Sandor who provided the same warning. In this instance, Lady Stoneheart acts a vision of her future. I can't think of a better reason for Martin to bring the character back. It's clear he want to explore the idea of returning from death and has stated that characters are not the same after returning, which includes the Whitewalkers and the Others and this is a common theme of katabasis stories.

I’m fine with Stoneheart being cut from the show because that’s one less cool thing from the books for Dumb and Dumber to have ruined.

I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but I think the show should have done the cathlyn being pulled up from the river but instead of being resurrected, she possesses Beric and he would then pursue her storyline (lady stone heart) and his in some sort of conflict between life and death, revenge and justice, ice and fire, you know what I mean.

I hate to say it but hands down the worst decision George RR Martin made. It takes all the air out of the Red Wedding. It showed how cruel and unforgivable the world of Westeros is. No magic, no tricks, just blood and betrayal, Brandon and Catelyn were the backbone they gave the world a real feel through they're eyes. Usually we follow the great young knight into all the battles in all the stories but this time we got his grieving widow mother, and the unfortunate truth that she is powerless in a world full of power hungry individuals. Then she comes back as a half dead witch. I fully expect Sansa to grow wings now... Oh wait... That's Brandon who's probably gonna be stuck in that tree for the rest of the story.
