Had one years ago that was ok but it broke/overheated the solder joints on the cpu after 2 years. I have fitted the latest generation a few months the ago in one of my cars and just today put a 2nd one in my other car. On top of being probably the greatest aftermarket android unit, their customer service is excellent also. Great accurate to the truth video
Can't wait for mine to arrive. After reviewing many online videos on android based head units, Joying seems the unit offering the best features for the money. Thanks for your reviews. They are very informative and helpfull in the decision process.
For all of you that dont have controls on your steering wheel, look up joying additional controls. There is one with an outer ring you can turn for volume control, buttons fpr media, calls and voice command. For only 20 bucks. Its the best ive seen among the brands, i think about getting a joying because of it, despite liking the teyes more (bc of 360 camera option). Mostly because of the volume control ring.
I just got mine a week ago all because of this video (2011 Chevy Tahoe kit os it was plug n play) and I freaking love it!! I wish they had the snapdragon one as plug and play but I might get that one later on and sell this one. Long story less long thanks for the review!

I purchased a Joying head unit for VW because of your video. The installing mechanic had a wiring problem with the rear camera - so we contacted support, support send some instructions then I replied it would be nice if their instruction is clearer at the first place so I don't have to go back to the shop again(covid and long wait). Then support started lecturing me here I quote "2) For the rear camera connecting, most customers feebdack that it can be workable. but you had never met such installation and not much good at it, it is also normal. we can be well-undersatnding." Well the unit is being installed by a professional, and there are many other people having the same issue. I can not recommend their customer service nor the product - for the price it is ok, building quality is not "premium" to be very conservative.
The future level of headunits with near instant boot and app load. Perks of what was premium technology now being low end and not snapped up by the big brands, it can find its way into lower end, more niche tech.
Well, the big brands have to pay licensing fees for the digital outputs which is big money and why you don't see them doing that. Companies like Joying just do what they want. Good luck suing them. Lol
I have the 8-inch JY-UO138N4G 4GB+32GB-N head unit in my 2013 STI and I've been very happy with it.......BUT, your video review of the 10.1-inch makes me want to Upgrade!!!

Just be aware that on long journeys, the screen gets very hot and starts flickering. You need to then very fiddly touch the right screen options to blank the screen until it cools. Otherwise agree, fun unit, tried and tested.
I carefully reviewed your reporting on multiple head units, I was impressed with your shared observations about Joying Head Units, and your experiences dealing with Joying and what you reported to be their timely responses to any issues you encountered with their products. You expressed the view that their customer service was excellent given your experience, dealing with Joying’s customer service. I decided based on your reporting, to purchase Joying’s top end premium Head Unit, the (13 plus inch) rotating device, was very excited about its delivery, until my first unboxing experience, to my surprise and disappointment, first of all they sent me a used head unit, with a scratched up screen, upon returning the defective device, I discovered the exact opposite of everything you reported in your supposedly, wonderful experience. It took Joying months to respond and to finally refund my account; and only after I threatened to get on a jet plane and fly to China did they finally respond and refunded my account. However I kept faith with Joying and your UA-cam testimonials, and reordered the same exact device for my GMC SUV, which I subsequently received off Amazon, note my original purchase was via eBay, unfortunately upon unboxing my second purchase, again I discovered significant flaws in the product, specifically the pre-drilled holes on the head unit frame, for installation were incorrectly machined and out of alignment, causing a problem trying to properly fit the head unit to my SUV Head unit slot, secondly and even more serious, I discovered that the main, double ribbon electrical/ electronic wires were badly bent and evidently broken, causing a short in the system, resulting in very glitchy and bad screen quality 😢😂, poor performance and connectivity. I was able mitigate those problems with some DIY interventions, however when my very expensive, top end, Joying Head Unit chose to work, it was extremely laggy on touchscreen performance and even all installation requirements were properly met, the device’s performance was totally abysmal, totally disappointing. Will never buy another JOYING PRODUCT and DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND. TO MY FELLOW CHINESE BUSINESSES, DO BETTER, RESPECT AND BE TRANSPARENT AND HONEST WITH ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS, NOT ONLY YOUR UK CUSTOMERS. Thank you for the miserable ride.
The alpine will definitely give you more audio amplification, which would be particularly useful if you have a powerful aftermarket system, but you'll be limited to AA and Carplay. Joying will give you much more, but certainly a less powerful audio output
About a year ago Joying was making a unit that had a built in volume slider on the side of the screen, so even if you didn't have steering wheel controls it was very easy to turn up and downthe volume instantly. This must have been a costly feature because I don't see it on any of their new units. It is easily the number one feature of the unit that I have!

Thanks man, Nice and flawless video. I am also interested in SPDIF , not the optical out but the coax out , Also what makes this unit also very attractive for me is the ability to have one of its USB ports as USB otg ( Host) which some older T8 units used to have. In case usb audio player pro app can be installed to this unit ( cheap app) It can control the USB out of the unit for dedicated audio out in terms of bit perfect out ( if the unit has decend USB bus ) . FYI: very little but even The optical out of sony GS9 is affected from jitter , This unit might also . Wonder the ability of USB host work or not ( Unless the joying explains about the output capabilities about the Jitter amount introduced to the optical / Coax / USB outs. )
Joying are great minor annoyances and learning process like switching apps without radio app turning off. I got 8 inch I would recommend a universal Bluetooth controller and stick it near your radio trying to mute or simple volume changes is kind of an hassle
It was a good unit until the screen started to blackout and plus no sound I reached out to Joying they was kind enough to send me a new face but I had to pay $40 for shipping. It came back quickly but after 6 months it’s doing the same thing all over again so I gave up on it now I’m going to try Atoto’s 10” screen.

Thanks for this video, I've just ordered one of the joying 7" units as i prefer to have a flush install in my car, the extra large screen would just get in the way. Thanks for all the great videos, I have watched most of them trying to decide on which Android head unit to go for, and I have two main concerns on buying an Android unit, one is the boot up time, as I get in and out of my van a lot, that doesn't seem to be an issue with this Joying and you seemed really impressed by its start up straight from the box. My second and main concern is battery drain, I have lots of Android phones and tablets around the house so I am well used to Android itself, but how do you overcome this common issue?, if an Android unit is just asleep its going to consume power, how do you overcome this issue, is it a case of turning the unit off completely when you leave the car for a period of time, or say every night, this main concern of mine is all that's holding me back from all the cool benefits of an Android head unit, cheers.
The current units can't really be turned off when the engine is running. You have 2 options. Set it to fully turn off when ignition is turned off. This causes it to fully boot up over 30 seconds. Second is to set it to sleep mode or hibernation. When you turn off the ignition is goes to sleep over about 30 seconds. It then only draws 5 mA of current. For reference, most vehicles draw 5-20 mA when off so this is perfectly fine. Any higher than 30 mA might drain the battery after a month or more of sitting. Getting back to you not being able to turn it off. With ignition on you can turn off the screen, but it is still running in the back ground. You have to remove the ignition source to actually turn it off. I plan to add a toggle switch to my ignition wire so I can make it not turn on every time I crank up the vehicle. Hope that helps.
Thanks for what you’re doing with these quality reviews of Android head units- it’s hard to find independent reviews of them, so much appreciated! This thing looks like a game-changer. Unfortunately for me, I am really wanting one that looks OEM in my car (Audi A3 8P), and Joying doesn’t have any that fit. Do you have any experience with Xtrons octa core units (4gb RAM) that you are willing to comment on?
Well I have had an Xtrons installed in my Saab 9-3 for a number of years. There's actually a review video of this on my channel. I haven't tested the latest model yet though, I will hopefully be doing that in the next few weeks. Generally though, Xtrons is a company that generally provides good value for money
@@owenmindwise I'm going to play with this possibility, yes. At the moment I have an Android head unit which is designed for the Opel insignia which shows the climate controls. If I can get this unit to do the same, I'll get it installed. Otherwise it'll go in the 2009 9-5 Aero
so i came here looking to see if anyone had the same complaint as me for this unit, that the font size was just waaaay too small on all the android menus and google maps. But maybe its just my bad eyes or something. Anyway, they have disabled the font size option for reasons i dont understand, earlier joying units had this option. The manual says the option is there but it is not. I asked support how to do it and they said it was impossible. But there is a way. If you go into developer settings, there is a min width setting that is in pixels. Its a sort of DPI value of some sort. The default is 1200, and setting it lower makes the menus and google map fonts larger. I use 800, and i might change it to 600. But this breaks the stock launcher, which is why i suspect they dont allow font size changes. The stock launcher is not great anyway, AGAMA launcher is much better. So install AGAMA first, switch to it, and then change the developer setting. Other than this issue, which is now resolved for me, the unit is absolutely fantastic. Much better than the POS binize unit i had before. The screen is wonderful, and the unit is comparable in speed to like a pixel3 or something similar, which is absolutely fine for car use.
This is excellent advice, John. This is the main issue with car head units which have very high resolutions. All the apps have loads of lovely screen space to spread over, like they would on a tablet, but in a car it is counter-productive as you're taking your attention away from the road for longer trying to press the smaller buttons or read the smaller text. Well done on finding the DPI settings in the dev options, I'll probably do a video on that soon
@@SaabUnleashed i am still a bit shocked that some more reasonable method wasnt available. thanks for making these videos, I made the mistake of buying a 2gig memory unit first before doing much research. it worked with android auto pretty flawlessly, but when i started playing with running the apps natively, i realized i had a lot more control over that, and i could use the higher rez screen better. Then i realized i just needed a better unit and found your channel. my car is too old for steering wheel controls, but i am trying to get the OTG usb to recognize an external volume knob that is super fancy. But without rooting the device there is just so much you can do, and i dont want to get into hacking territory at this point, the device is close enough to perfect i can be satisfied. I also need to see if the OTG will support external input devices like gamepads etc. This thing really should be running MAME for those long waits at the drivethrough.
I'm hoping I can find a music player app that can allow for big bold text and no album art. My plan is to use the usb rca video out to a small 2.5" screen mounted in the instrument panel. I can keep the radio hidden with the factory door to maintain a stock appearance.
Hi, I'm looking at purchasing one of the Joying units but am confused as it says cannot support the car's backup camera. Is this just a connection I'm having to purchase or another camera? I know there can be lost in translation issues sometimes. Love your videos.
Aftermarket head units require the rear view camera to have a standard video RCA plug, this is what all aftermarket reverse cameras have. To use the factory reverse cam, you need an adaptor that will add a standard video RCA to the wiring loom containing the video signal in the dashboard, or if such an adaptor doesn't exist, you'll need to find the relevant wires and solder on an RCA plug to plug into the Joying
I just purchased an xtrons PMA10ACH_L 10.1 hinda accord head unit and had a question about what can setting it should be set to f or a 2005 honda accord EX v6. Thanks Mr
Do you know if the headunits by Joying that are designed for say a VW will fit in another vehicle out of the box? Asking as I like the look of the unit for the VW with the two dials (volume and tuner) and it looks period correct for my car but their other universal units do not have twin dials. Thanks! Love your content on this!
Yes Joying has addressed what many audiophiles have been looking for out there, i.e lossless digital sound output (as, let's face it, the internal amp of any Android Head unit is just not a level of anything remotely accessible by a music lover). It's really sad it's not based on Rockchip units though as they make it that much more difficult to mod this unit. Would've been perfect otherwise. As for components, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but they are pretty much the same you'd see in unbranded head units. Yes better work done on the front end, cleaner hardware work too but the components are the same :)
Would love if they would also have accessorised shroouds for cars too so you can just buy the headunit and shroud for your car.. I know customisable screen height and placement.. I'm merely making the suggestion of a "default position."
Thank you for your video, maybe i found my new head unit... Could you confirm is it the best android car hifi in the aftermarket place now? What is in my focus: fast system, great display, great sound quality (only pre amp PA is not necessary I use amps, bluetooth 5.1) Based on your vid it looks amazing. Thanks again! ;)
The only cons on this unit noticed, #1 I hate the fact that opens UA-cam app every time on turn on this unit is annoying, there is no settings to stop this. #2 you can't connect a bass sound system on this unit even though it has that option. Overall best head unit out there, well worth the money.
Opening UA-cam on startup might be because it is opening apps that were open at shutdown. Have you tried going into the open apps screen (where you can switch between open apps) and shut down UA-cam and then restart the head unit? That should solve that. Not sure what issue you're having with the subwoofer because I have one connected to an aftermarket amp in my car and it worked fine, controls and all

Hi Mate great vid and the unit looks great! I have a Honda Civic 10th Gen in the UK, will this unit work and display the Air Con etc on the unit you've reviewed like it presently does on the stock OEM unit installed?
Great review. I"ve been looking at these types of units for years. The only thing that is kept me from taking the plunge is that I drive a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 and I've always heard that the Bluetooth controls on the steering wheel doesn't work because it is part of a different "hub" than those of the other steering wheel controls. Can anyone confirm whether this unit can use the bluetooth controls built into the steering wheel on a 2nd generation Mazda 3?
You don't use bluetooth for steering wheel control. You buy an interface compatible with your car and integrates in your car harness to the headunit and program the steering wheel control through settings in the headunit.
Our car (2012 Citroen C5 Exclusive) comes with a subwoofer and amplifier installed in the boot. The mechanic tells me that the car's amplifier would stop sound from the Joying unit getting to the speakers. Does this sound right? Joying website says "No matter your external amplifier has optical input or coaxial input". Haven't purchased yet, but someone suggested our amp may require ECU input to 'wake' it? Has also been suggested to buy another external amp, but not sure why?

Great video, I agree about how awesome a unit it is. I had an issue with mine blowing out fuses so had to wait for them to exchange out the brain. But since I do really enjoy the unit. Was wondering if anyone would happen to have an old 10.1" screen they aren't using? I have this 13.3 and an 8 in my 84 monte ss but the 8's screen cracked. Luckily I had a 10.1 I am putting into my current project and was able to test the screen. Joying told me it wouldn't work but when I plugged it in and booted and works just fine. So now I am on the hunt for a 10.1" screen with no luck so far
You blow fuses and crack screen....wtf?. Maybe you should let someone who know how to handle headunit help you. You sound like a person who should stay away from electronic. And i don't believe you can put another screen into a different headunit and. It souinds crazy. You are doing weird things.

That speedo can't be changed to miles, that's an annoyance of mine too

Hey mate, great video ...2 quick questions. can you rearrange the home screen apps on this Joying unit as you can the Teyes unit and will this unit support more than 4 TPMS senders (I plan to install in a commercial vehicle with 8 wheels)? And 1 quick quesion on AGAMA UI - can you control volume with the arows in top of round display near the clock?.....Thanks in advance
On the one I demonstrated here, you can't add apps to the dashboard BUT Joying has recently started installing a very similar dashboard to Teyes on their newest units, and they will allow this functionality. The TPMS apps are limited to 4 senders I'm afraid. Regarding AGAMA, yet it does have volume controls. Remember you can also get Bluetooth wheel controls too
Just got my unit delivered, just a quick question do you know if there is a volume control switch which I can fit as I do not have steering controls to alter the volume while driving . Thanks Martin p.s I will be in contact at a later date for some help of how to wire up the rear view camera while driving .
Have a look at these for controlling volume (and more) remotely. www.joyingauto.eu/car-accessories/z-link-box.html . For the camera, you just need to power it from the red wire on your head unit. You'll find the video wire for the camera also has a thin red wire, this is so that you can supply the camera power from the head unit.
Does it remember where you left off and support app bubbles so you can open nav and have a small floating window of youtube or vice versa? (both features like pumpkin models)
Hello I have the old 2017 unit. I believe it's the Joying with 7inch screen running Android 6. I love the interface though it's sluggish sometimes. (Only has an quadcore 1GB ram). But I experience 1 irritating problem and that is when I want to download something from the playstore the app seems to hang and the spinning symbol takes ages waiting to download.. It's connected to my WiFi hotspot Everything else works fine only downloading or even updating apps from the playstore takes a looong time.. if not forever 😢
That issue is normally related to the Playstore cache needing to be cleared, so try that. Otherwise, you can always sideload apps instead. But really you should be thinking about an upgrade :P
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate any help I can get making a decision. Looked at the new S8 ATOTO's as well but don't know much about them. Seem pretty well endowed particularly the 10.1 inch premiums and pro's. Great HD specs. I subbed to keep in the loop.

I purchased a Joying head unit for VW because of your video. The installing mechanic had a wiring problem with the rear camera - so we contacted support, support send some instructions then I replied it would be nice if their instruction is clearer at the first place so I don't have to go back to the shop again(covid and long wait). Then support started lecturing me here I quote "2) For the rear camera connecting, most customers feebdack that it can be workable. but you had never met such installation and not much good at it, it is also normal. we can be well-undersatnding." Just be aware that on long journeys, the screen gets very hot and starts flickering.

K - thanks - I'm in the market for a new headunit. Toying with Alpine 407 or 650 but I've always liked the way Joying presents.

They do make units with volume knobs or dedicated capacitive buttons. You just need to choose what you want and what size.
i liked these so much i bought 5. one for each car. goodbye gm nav radios. hello perfection!
Fantastic review. I’m definitely considering this unit.
Awesome video, gonna buy one for my Jetta MK6 Sport.
5:00 its basicly 1080p with a different ratio of 16:10 instead of 16:9, but still a very nice resolution for that size
Thank you very for your brilliant Videos. I have one question , does it fit into my 2008 Toyota Prius gen 2. Thank you
Thanks man, Nice and flawless video.
Wonder the ability of USB host work or not ( Unless the joying explains about the output capabilities about the Jitter amount introduced to the optical / Coax / USB outs. )
Did you have the opportunity to test the spidf or optical output? I have the same curiosity. yes it offers good audio quality?
Joying are great minor annoyances and learning process like switching apps without radio app turning off. I got 8 inch I would recommend a universal Bluetooth controller and stick it near your radio trying to mute or simple volume changes is kind of an hassle
Why I will only buy a unit with a volume knob built in
It was a good unit until the screen started to blackout and plus no sound I reached out to Joying they was kind enough to send me a new face but I had to pay $40 for shipping. It came back quickly but after 6 months it’s doing the same thing all over again so I gave up on it now I’m going to try Atoto’s 10” screen.
Thanks buddy I ordered mine last week it's good to see that it's going to be a great head unit

I'm interested as well...wish we could get an answer

I was blown away by the Teyes CC3 how does this compare in your opinion?
so i came here looking to see if anyone had the same complaint as me for this unit, that the font size was just waaaay too small on all the android menus and google maps.
Try out Atoto head-units also. I own one and happy with it. I have the S8 Standard.
There is also pumpkin audio too.. have a look into them.

Can you recommend me some unbranded head units you were talking about?

The only cons on this unit noticed,
#1 I hate the fact that opens UA-cam app every time on turn on this unit is annoying, there is no settings to stop this.

Best stereo for function. I have this in my mercedes.
Did you have to buy Cambus for steering controls to work
Our car (2012 Citroen C5 Exclusive) comes with a subwoofer and amplifier installed in the boot.

Everything else works fine only downloading or even updating apps from the playstore takes a looong time.. if not forever 😢
That issue is normally related to the Playstore cache needing to be cleared, so try that.
Otherwise, you can always sideload apps instead.
But really you should be thinking about an upgrade :P

I have it installed on my oldtimer Mercedes Benz (1986) use it for navigation and it has 2 USB ports for charging my phone. 😂
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate any help I can get making a decision. Looked at the new S8 ATOTO's as well but don't know much about them. Seem pretty well endowed particularly the 10.1 inch premiums and pro's. Great HD specs. I subbed to keep in the loop.
EXCELLENT REVIEW ! SIR !!
