One last correction. There were a few times that you moved characters between Weeping Cinder Ridge (11) and Hard Road (16). These locations are actually not considered adjacent. There are a couple of others like this where they only touch on a corner. They have to share a side for adjacency. Overall, it’s still a great playthrough and I think it’s a good representation of what people can expect from the game. Enjoyed watching!
54:05 I noticed another easy rule mistake. When Boxville was overrun, no Earthers were placed in God’s Eye Forest since there were already three raiders there. However, when this happens, you still need to place an Oil & Ammo Depot there. Also at 1:01:55, 1:06:50 and 1:11:27.
Awesome playthrough thanks Colin. So unlucky at the end there. I was lucky to get a copy of the game from NobleKnight received only today, and having just watched this video I feel confident enough to give it a go myself tomorrow night. Can't wait!
I like how Elvis is "the Old God" lol Oh my what a plot twist at the end! Great fun thanks Colin. Think I would prefer to have DotLS tbh mainly because I don't have a post apocalyptic themed game, whereas I have a few fantasy themed games. But I'm happy to have DotR plus an expansion, so I've not thought it worthwhile getting the former. Been meaning to watch Paul's playthrough, think Ep1 is in one of my far too numerous "To Watch" tabs lol
Wait, rereading bramble, I think your 6 in the first attack allowed for all the damage. Also, unless I missed something, there was a chance she didn't move after that failure. Still, it was pretty unlikely she didn't move with the next 3 cards, plus you'd spent al your resources, so your chances were low anyway.
First thanks for watching! Second, unless I am reading this incorrectly (which totally could be the case) Bramble wants each ranger to roll an unmodified 6, if you don't your damage is ignored. So the game is forcing you to attack with less folks because you need 6 for each person. Also you are totally right on Bramble I should have rolled a D6 on that!! Sheesh I will make a note! Thanks!!
That was a heckuva an end. I'm sure you've packed up by now, but you could roll a d6 to see if you lost right away or not. I don't think you'd have survived another round, but it would be good to know nonetheless.
So…how do you rate this compared to Die Zwerge (The Dwarves)? With both on your shelf, which would you reach for first, and which would you reach for more often?
I avoided this game for years, thinking it was something it is not. Defenders of the Realm is one of my favorite games…I’ll have to take another look at this one. I never put it together in my head that DotLS is essentially a retirement of HotR
Great playthrough! I’ve always loved the original Defenders of the Realm and have been on the fence about picking this one up for YEARS now. I think the theming is just so cool. Have you played the other implementations (Realm & Freedom Five from Arcane Wonders)? If so, how do you feel they compare?
Perhaps I missed something but shouldn't there have been an overrun (or whatever it's called) at around the hour mark when you couldn't place the Earther due to the space already having 3 raiders? Edit: I don't have the game, I guess "outbreaks" don't spread unlike Pandemic? You only spread once and don't place or "outbreak" a second time?
Yup you've got it! Unlike Pandemic there are no cascading outbreaks, just one per time when you cannot place a figure! I was not expecting you to be in on this game Kenny, would have thought it was not your jam!
I watched Paul Darcy's recent playthrough and I thought he chained the outbreaks but maybe I'm misremembering it (it was a really long playthrough). I owned Defenders of the Realm years ago and sold it after a couple of plays. I thought it was fine but I really dislike Pandemic and it felt just a bit too similar. I might feel differently if I played either it or this again. My biggest issue with Pandemic (besides not feeling very thematic at all) is how Epidemic cards function (shuffling discard back on top of the deck) and the chaining outbreaks. It feels like almost zero player agency if a couple of Epidemic cards show up in quick succession.
Ah totally makes sense! Yeah I also watched Paul's playthrough and it's what got me to throw this on the take. The outbreaks here a bit more random but less punishing. However the dice make things a lot more random. I do feel like it fits the theme though!

21:25 Hat moved over a solid line from McCormick Farm to Apache Plains.
Thanks for that!

Yes I agree the theme is the biggest reason I enjoy this over DOTR. Hope you get to watch Paul's play soon!!
32:00 it is always a challenge to find something when I cover up the name, so covers up the name right after uncovering it
Ha!
Love for you to do another playthrough of this game and hour of need
Glad you enjoyed them both Joshua!!
Great job again. Thanks really enjoy your vids.
Appreciate you watching!
Rare to find a video on this game.
I agree ! That's why I had to do it!
My favorite scenario is Flight to Paradise. It's so Mad Max.
I'll have to try that one!
You make even games I'm sure are not for me look fun. Not sure if I should congratulate or stop watching, but grats :)
HAHAHAHA!! My apologies! Appreciate you watching nontheless!
Great job again. Thanks.
Thanks!

@@OneStopCoopShop Thanks for the video as well!

Ah it was so much fun! Yeah already packed up so we will never know! Haha! Thanks for watching David!

Not sure I sold dwarves a long time ago. I go for this for a good adventure!!

You've got it! I hope you give it a shot it's a lot of fun!

I have not played those others but I am getting the freedom game whenever it shows up! Thanks for watching!
