Do not work with people who want creative payment arrangements. Do not work with people who constantly ask for discounts. Do not work with people who push you (the seller/artist) for proofs of your trustworthiness-they are very likely to be setting up a scam. Do not work with people who want your normal quality at a rush timeline. 10% of customers cause 90% of the problems... and you can avoid these people by filtering your clients appropriately. Edit: and if your client has severe short term and long term memory loss and wants to buy thousands of dollars worth of your time, only work with a designated agent who is able to make legal agreements on their behalf.

Nothing should raise red flags more than someone constantly arguing price and payment plans with you. Stick to your TOS as an artist. Strictly. If someone continues to keep arguing and loopholing around your TOS of payment then you should probably just drop them as a client. I give them like 2 reminders of the agreement and tos before I drop them.
Thats really true. I recently had to dispute payment over a commission I had finished 5 months ago without any payment.. And the prices did get disputed in the start. Honestly, its a LESSON! I got the money afterwards, from a friend of said person who commissioned me but like.. yeah I need to stick to the TOS. It really sucks.

As someone with severe mental health and memory issues, it is _not_ an excuse. I can explain that I forgot something or how I'm struggling, but it's still _my_ responsibility to keep tabs on what's happening, as I can be forgetful but still *remember* that I'm forgetful and take a crap-ton of notes in my planner on top of setting detailed reminders on my phone. Swimming in self-pity is part of being human, but it's not the cause of making gigantic purchases that can't be paid off or guilt-tripping others into doing ludicrous things. I hope Maowzie is safe and can work on improving so this doesn't happen again.

It's amazing how very badly that people like Maowzie's lives are going to hell in a handbasket the exact moment after they hurt someone else and aren't allowed to take what they were aiming to get for free or a drastically lowered price. While I might believe that she used a credit card that belonged to someone else, I don't believe her home situation story, health excuses, or pretty much anything else. It's all tacked on and about as dramatic as you can possibly get. She's definitively a liar, a scammer, and I wish that there was a proper means for artists to be better protected immediately from predatory people like her... especially since artistic spaces are often rife with people who are vulnerable in some way or another, and because of that they are eager to please, get praise, and be rewarded with payment. Predators like Maowzie know this and very much are wolves disguised as sheep. There are steps artists can take to protect themselves from creeps like her, but a lot of it requires registering your services as a business, having business transaction accounts, and record keeping that many don't know about or might be too young to pursue on their own... But it needs to be said that artists should treat themselves as a business, especially if you plan on living off of your work. Cases like this have a thin silver lining of being big ol' red flag stories that will hopefully scare some current or aspiring artists to look into those things and take precautions, because your chances of coming across Maowzie or some other worthless scammer are closer to 'inevitable' rather than 0.
Around the 18:00 mark "banks cant just go and take the money back" Uh.. maam, you are either SUPER YOUNG or dont know at all how banks work/paypal works. Thats exactly what happens when theres a chargeback from the bank. They take the money and hold it while doing the paperwork confirmation the return of money so... no the artist doesnt have that money after the charge back, but you will after like 3 days or so. (But also of its a creidt card, you arent really getting money back youre just getting that charge removed so its even faster than if you paid cash from a debit card)

It's not okay to put your life situation on someone else like that and especially a stranger who you owe money to. If you agreed to payment plans then maybe you would tell them things are very bad to extend the time you have to pay them but that's not even what happened here. As someone with severe mental health and memory issues, it is _not_ an excuse. I can explain that I forgot something or how I'm struggling, but it's still _my_ responsibility to keep tabs on what's happening, as I can be forgetful but still *remember* that I'm forgetful and take a crap-ton of notes in my planner on top of setting detailed reminders on my phone.
Swimming in self-pity is part of being human, but it's not the cause of making gigantic purchases that can't be paid off or guilt-tripping others into doing ludicrous things. I hope Maowzie is safe and can work on improving so this doesn't happen again.

I was going to say something along the lines of "Why does she keep ordering new models if she actually wants to be a vtuber" but then I realized that 1. She's a scammer and 2. I used to switch models a lot because I got inspired and wanted to make more models.
But this is getting so much worse than it already was, like what is she on? I get having new ideas but at this point she needs to sit down, pick a model and stop doing this because it's seriously messing with the artists and she's only making it worse for the people who actually want to commission an model and keep it.
I'm also beginning to wonder if Mousey is either very young or has some type of attachment problems. Because assuming that she was telling the truth she spent 3000 dollars on a vtuber model when her family might go homeless, and it sounds like her mom turns to aggression quite quickly which isn't really good for anyone especially not if you have mental issues.
So it's possible that she has developed some type of attachment problems and idk models herself after these characters, which is why she "has to" have them. But that is 1. Just a bit of an overreaching theory and 2. Still not an excuse to screw someone else over nor to essentially steal 3000 from her mom when they already can't pay the bills. Not that that warrants violence or threats.

It's amazing how very badly that people like Maowzie's lives are going to hell in a handbasket the exact moment after they hurt someone else and aren't allowed to take what they were aiming to get for free or a drastically lowered price. While I might believe that she used a credit card that belonged to someone else, I don't believe her home situation story, health excuses, or pretty much anything else. It's all tacked on and about as dramatic as you can possibly get.
She's definitively a liar, a scammer, and I wish that there was a proper means for artists to be better protected immediately from predatory people like her... especially since artistic spaces are often rife with people who are vulnerable in some way or another, and because of that they are eager to please, get praise, and be rewarded with payment. Predators like Maowzie know this and very much are wolves disguised as sheep.
There are steps artists can take to protect themselves from creeps like her, but a lot of it requires registering your services as a business, having business transaction accounts, and record keeping that many don't know about or might be too young to pursue on their own... But it needs to be said that artists should treat themselves as a business, especially if you plan on living off of your work. Cases like this have a thin silver lining of being big ol' red flag stories that will hopefully scare some current or aspiring artists to look into those things and take precautions, because your chances of coming across Maowzie or some other worthless scammer are closer to 'inevitable' rather than 0.

They take the money and hold it while doing the paperwork confirmation the return of money so... no the artist doesnt have that money after the charge back, but you will after like 3 days or so. (But also of its a creidt card, you arent really getting money back youre just getting that charge removed so its even faster than if you paid cash from a debit card)

Idk if you'd be interested in some osrs drama. Almost 100k youtuber has had some stuff revealed. He went on a several year a-logging campaign with a friend against an underage guy. Posting pictures of him and his stepsister on their joint youtube channel (as well as posting a picture of the underage guy in his boxers drunk. The guy has confirmed he was underage at the time). Openly talking about how they sent fake friends to get the guys password and stole his accounts to force him to panel up with them. The video is on a channel called dj Screwdriver.

It's not okay to put your life situation on someone else like that and especially a stranger who you owe money to. If you agreed to payment plans then maybe you would tell them things are very bad to extend the time you have to pay them but that's not even what happened here.
Art is a luxury, if you're worried that your family might be in financial trouble the correct action would be to not try and buy art. I don't actually believe the story, I think they either actually stole a card which is fully illegal. Would it make more sense to clarify this as a warning/ensure the artist is okay with this to the doll artist and put the model up for sale for whatever the commission costed plus the design fee they designate with credit?
