We've got a set of scalloped silver spoons inherited in 1983 from my Grandmother and they still sit in my Father's dresser, unpolished. I'll definitely use these tips, thank you.
Yes!! This is how I have always cleaned my granny's silver, that was passed down to me. Never fails me and so much less work than getting it all out and using silver polish. Brightest blessings.
How cool is this?! I've heard about this technique before but never tried it nor seen it done......it's fab! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. 😁
You are welcome. It actually works! With your help I managed to resuscitate silver cutlery passed by my 2xGreat Grandmother to me for my daughter... ❤️
Ooh, I've got a lot of these that I've picked up over the years. I see you have a cranberry spoon and was that a stilton one too ? I'm definitely going to try this out, thank you 😸
Aluminium is normally covered in aluminium oxide making it unreactive. An alkali such as sodium bicarbonate dissolves this oxide layer so aluminate goes into solution. The raw aluminium left behind is a powerful reducing agent when in contact with the silver which converts silver sulphide or silver oxide back to silver.
This worked an absolute treat on my inherited cutlery, thank you so much for sharing! Wish I could share before and after pick to prove it.
Great, so pleased it was helpful.

Would this work on copper? Thank you.
I'm sorry, I have no idea....this technique is for plated silver.
What's the significance of the foil? I assume it does something.
I believe it is an electrolytic reaction.
