Bit of a rant, but to this day I never really understand why CA choose Rome 2/Attila as their "template" but just left the Shogun 2 style in the dust. Shogun 2's battles just feel a lot smoother in my experience.
Its because Rome 2 was hyped beyond belief before it came out and CA apparently spent a ton of resources developing a new/revamped engine for it, and that sunk cost basically tied them to that horrendous new engine ever since- I really wish they fixed it or abandoned it for a better one, since the current engine is kinda just dogshit for realism.
shogun 2 fits much better for more musket and rifle warfare especially with all the stuff fall of the samurai added. CA easily could have done an Empire 2 or Napoleon 2 based on it
Shogun 2 was a perfect evolution of the Warscape games. Once Rome 2 introduced HP to units instead of the Wounds that all previous games had, it sucked all the visceral punchy feel out of battles.
This game was always weird for me. Every game, by the time I felt confident enough and assured that my kingdom was stable and strong enough, the rest of the map was already unified with multi-stack kingdoms ready to steamroll me. Maybe I was just trash, but I never really "succeeded" in this game like the others.
The AI kinda has a cheat, the debuffs of starvation dont really affect them, specially on the higher difficulties. And you are not bad at this game, i played this total war a lot (i kinda really like the setting) and it seriously one of the most broken campaigns of the series. It has lot of exploits, and the ai knows that. Minor settlementes have no garrison, so if you make a cavalry only army you can kinda capture everything and just ignore enemy armies (the ai often uses a single general to cap your shit in legendary. You can capture port walled cities in a naval battle in a single turn, spawn a general (or 3), next turn boom, you cap the entire province (and guess what, the ai does that too). Oh yeah, and if you keep playing after you get the ending cutscene, normans and vikings launch a full scale invasion, like fullstacks all over the sea, so if you are a masochist like me you can you fight them and watch the empire you built get plundered. Good times.
Thrones was really good from a directional standpoint: Unique artstyle, ranged units actually mattered, units were beautiful, siege maps got a new breath of life, and it focused in on a theatre with great detail. IF ONLY IT WASN'T A SAGA! It lacked the gameplay style diversity and breadth of other total wars, and because of that, lost its replayability. I wish they made Medieval III in the same style but spanning all of europe and beyond in great detail, and of course having more unit and faction diversity
Dino Stan's a conqueror, but he's not a "conqueror", you know? Like he'll slaughter your nation's army, but he won't put you to the sword because your grain harvest got moldy. All in all, would recommend for your next warhost, 10/10.
Its kinda sad how much CA ignored Atilla. ToB and Rome 2: Empire Divided were more fitting as Atilla expansions but the company would do anything else but work on Atilla lmao.
I remember whenever there was a DLC for attila 90% of the audience during the streams were just begging them to fix the performance issues or how some minor settlements couldn't get all four slots for building. It's a shame since Rome 2 actually runs alright now but Attila still runs like ass even on really REALLY good computers Empire divided would have been perfect for attila since you had disease, politics, and two (or three) religions fighting to replace roman paganism (Christianity, Manicheanism, and the Cult of Sol Invictus)
This game's economy has always been whack. I remember one story of a guy who opened his save after a patch and went from making tens of thousands in currency per turn to losing almost that much. CA really dropped the ball (harder than usual) and they did their best to tease us with something ALMOST like Medieval:TW 2 recruitment while making sure it absolutely was not that. They're bastards and should be treated as such.
I weirdly loved this game except all the factions are too similar. Tended to play the Welsh for the cool archers so I could just form a shield wall and shoot the enemy to death
Tbh, The game doesnt look that bad or anything. It might be just an Attila DLC looking game but the map is pretty big and there's a lot to choose from. As an Attila fan I would reccomend it in my opinion
Ppl so mad this game is so niceee, if you like the british isle and want to see that part of history is nice. The only bad thing is the price BUT WHO TELL YOU MUST BUY IT FROM STEAM???
I have a friend and this is the only total war game he will play. I've tried to get him into Shogun 2, Rome 2, Warhammer...etc. This is the only one he likes. I don't get it.
Needs to be renamed auto resolve total war, after my first 20 or so turns I just auto resolved every battle, the only battle i had to fight manually were the normans at the end.
this was the only Saga title I got and ye it's very disappointing, the battles can be cool but the campaign is terrible, so all the more kudos to you for making it entertaining
honestly i bought this game, thought id love it. no idea what im doing, never played the old total wars (i came from warhammer) game didnt do good enough no one makes content for it. cant figure it out, never play again
Wow, they gave Dino Stan's local neighbourhood a game adaptation!!!!
The devs knew their stuff

Shield wall is a pretty good mod for the game that almost justifies the existence of ToB as a stand-alone product and not just DLC for Atila. Almost.
I've heard about that mod, im wishing the team the best of luck

a Christmas miracle

The Thrones of Britannia experience.
a roller-coaster of emotions
The best thing about this game is that it runs in 64 bits. I would pay a lot for a update that allowed old total war games to run in 64 bits.
real

the only game where you have to pay to have bad dentistry and for a 5 dollar DLC that lets you have a little bit of blood on the ground
