They are family in the books. In the show the writers butchered their relationship and made up ridiculous plotlines: first yennefer becomes possessed by a witch, wants to sacrifice Ciri, then Geralt wants to kill yennefer, then Ciri kills sleeping witchers. I was so angry and couldn't believe my eyes during the season finale. Not because NONE of this happens in the books but the changes make no sense, are out of characters and are poorly written. Unfortunately Netflix hired inexperienced writers who write scripts full of plot holes.
have to say I agree and I didn't read books beyond first and don't do games. It was poorly written and didn't get them together early enough nor spend time as a family together. The one unicorn scene right after yen came back was the best in whole show.
It's a pity where the show went. The first season wasn't as good as the games, of course, but it was pretty damn decent. Better than many fantasy series.
