hi everyone i can confirm i have started recording this , its been a popular video and i am now getting it finshed off , ive had all sorts of camera issues and sound problems with my new set up but i am actually getting this started , apoligies for the delay
hi all , thanks for the commensts , i do hope to finish part 2 soon but other projects have got in the way , its been that long now i need to rewatch my own video and remind myself where i am
Hey Torpedo. Thanks so much for this video. Vital in helping me repair an S1000 power supply and backlight for a friend/student in west Philadelphia in USA. cheers. Keep it up.
Literally just done the exact same fixes on one of mine. Used a slightly larger PSU, just because I dont trust the power ratings on those chinese smps units. Also put in a little DC DC converter to adjust the iPhone backlight brightness. All works a treat
Tape Leaks it’s just an off the shelf 5volt power supply in the original slammed in , not a bespoke item , I just rammed in a modern equivalent, you can see this in the next video
The ELD display transformer is a common whistle on audio problem..solution: DIY LED backlight with 2 plastic sheets one for glue LEDs, one for dissolve point lights.and small 5v LEDs in paralell with small light force. Every electrolyte cap change is highly recommended.
Thanks for this. Just had my backup S1000 go down. Going to measure the rail but if the 5v is not right can I plug the 5v power from my working one onto the board of the non-working one to test?
Great video ! thank you ! i have an question i have an S1000HD the power supply looks a little bit diffrent i think because of the HDD and the Fan for the HDD but i dont use the HDD because i install an scsi2sd card reader so its enough do you think i can install the powersupply like in your video ?
Thank you for this. I'm having hassles getting a S1100 to load the OS 4.3 The The power supply PCB distributor board was cracked in two, damaged in transit. I renewed that and the Main CPU PCB (Motherboard) and both 32 ROM chips. It has a floppy Emulator installed and a new type LED screen from previous owner. No default Sine wave sound when pressing the ENY/Play button after start up and nothing on the screen, no writing. Totally Stumped. Guy in Japan who sold me the Main board and Power supply distributor board helping diagnose, guy in Canada who supplied the ROM chips, guy who sells the new type LED screens and guy who sells Gotek Floppy Emulators all trying to help. You seem to know your stuff. Any suggestions or contact would be greatly appreciated?
Question: I just bought a bench DC power supply to test my unit after taking out the faulty Akai PSU. I understand how you sent the 5v to the unit, but how do you send the mains power (12v)to the board at 5:42? Do you have a second bench power supply unit going? Thanks!
Great video, I'm working/restoring an akai s1000. You know the pixel specs and other stuff to buy an LCD screen on aliexpress? I don't wanna pay 70 80 euro or extra money for an lcd screen. Ah, and also the specs for a floppy emulator. Thanks in advance. Messtoo.
@@Actual_electrical_content Thanks will do once I get an updated photo as replaced some caps already since I last took one. Just need to pull it out of storage.
@@Actual_electrical_content There are types that plugin to the floppy disk which emulate a floppy drive but these are limited to floppy size saves. There are also ones which plug into the scsi chain which can save/load larger sizes. I am using this one shop.codesrc.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59 on my Kurzweil k2000 scsi, not sure if it works with an aka

I read about earthing through the pins on the original supply, be good to see how you got around this before I cute myself ;)
Can't wait for part 2!
Looking forward to part 2, I am surprised no one has made brand new PSU units for the Akai S1000 / 1100 or other models
Would love to see part 2 please for the Power supply
Your dedication to fixing these old machines is admirable. I have a Z4 that won't fire up, and I am hoping it's an easy fix.

Well done! I didn't know that there was completely new power supplies available, thought recapping was the only solution.

Where’s Part 2? I’ve got to replace my power supply and have a Mean Well RD50A and I’d love some direction!!
Excellent video!

I have one that adds a boatload of distortion to the audio when you sample in.

Derp, I figured it out, you mean the power to the main AC connection in the back.
Correct

Could you link a US PSU? I have no idea what I'm looking for honestly and trying my hand at making my own repairs.
Great vid. Any chance of a SPX90 II PSU rebuild or replace video?
Jesse Skeens I’ve not got one , tweet me a picture of the inside and I’ll try to advise if I can
