I used to take pictures at cliffe fort maybe 15 years ago, there was one piece of graffiti there, after about 150 years, but in the past 5 years its become a wash with Graffiti. I often wonder why in the past 5 years the scourge has taken over like never before?

The problem was it was easily accessible a while back so kids would play in there, parties were happening there, now it's not so easy to get in it's being preserved more

I left Medway in 1970 for Oz, and unfortunately we and the rest of the world are living in a time when a certain element seems hell bent on obliterating any kind of history

I hate seeing locations like this being vandalised. They are an important part of our history.

Forget the history Alistair McIntyre here is an already built and paid for emergency system why the hell isn't it being maintained?
It is only a matter of time until the next disaster where prebuilt systems like this could be a great help. Stupid short sighted politicians!

Gee, this is OLD OLD news. I remember playing in tunnels on the Great Lines between Gillingham and Chatham back in the late 50s early 60s. We would spend out pocket money of candles so we could explore them. When the Government bricked them off the bigger kids would simply knock holes in the brickwork and we'd all enter them again. We never did any damage, because there was nothing left to damage. I might add nobody ever stopped us or questioned us and personally I would have been there on most days during school holidays.

+propfella yeah I've had a look around some of the Sally ports at brompton. These tunnels were in mint condition when I first went there, I just hate seeing history get trashed by mindless vandals

Hi Thank you for your interest but I'm sorry I won't disclose the location of these tunnels in order to help somehow preserve them.

That's a bit selfish, you get to see/explore them, we don't.

Along the esplanade, built by the Shorts aircraft factory.

No shorts are much bigger than these tunnels and also mostly lined with corrugated iron. If you haven't seen shorts then English heritage do tours of them which is well worth the money (around £50) but there is a waiting list.
Unfortunately these tunnels aren't open to the public but it would be nice to see them opened up in the future. Although they have been trashed by local kids even more since 😔😔😔
