    Drill some holds on the side of the container will increase air flow and speed up the decomposition.

    Welcome back! How is the kitchen? I've missed Your videos.
    Shredding is so very important. The smaller the particle size, the larger the surface area, and the larger the surface area, the faster it will decompose. I have an 8 HP Troy Built chipper/shredder that I've almost worn out. Correction, the hammers are dull and I need to rotate them. I've used up one of the four sides of the hammers.
    My garlic and cilantro are coming up and I am building a greenhouse and I am setting up a hydroponic tent indoors. It's a busy time for what's supposed to be a slow time of the year. I'll send photos. It's good to see you are doing well.
    I hate to see you using such expensive containers for composting. Amazon has a $38 container that will hold several cubic yards.
    Take a look at Diego Footer's reports on the Johnson-Su bioreactor. I think you will find that useful and interesting.
    There is a lot of research that's paying off very well on microbes and fungi in the garden. Google "Johnson-Su Bioreactor" and "Teaming With Microbes".
    Hope things are going well for you.

      Hey Ben, kitchen is almost done, ended up doing more than originally planned, new wiring, lighting, plaster, etc., Plus kids at home 'distance learning' and lots of other interruptions. I opted for the toters so we can move them around more easily. Yes, they're a little pricey, but also very sturdy and should last a long time. Thanks for the info on the microbes, I will definitely check it out!

    As far as diseases are concerned, aren't you afraid that by putting them into your compost you will return them to the garden in your composted soil? Do you add food scraps to your compost? How does your shedder do with 'tree waste'? You know, trimmed limbs and such... And how long before you have compost you can use?

    • @AsianGarden2Table
      @AsianGarden2Table  3 роки тому

      The trash can can reach very high temperature under sun so basically kills most of the bug eggs, bacteria. We don’t put food garbage in this can. Our shredder will chip wood stick really well. It is very powerful.

    I am very curious about Composting. I was always told that you don't want too much "Green" in your compost otherwise it gets rather unpleasant. Anaerobic to exact. Since you have a lid on it IT should work without the smell venting. As I said I am curious.

    • @jeffmeyers3837
      @jeffmeyers3837 11 місяців тому

      Keep it above 131-degrees Fahrenheit to kill weed seeds and pathogens. Temp drops 15-degress when turned, so turn when it's hotter than 146-degrees, 160-degrees max, as it'll dry out quick at that temp and go anaerobic.

    You are wrong about the way you are making compost, and are wrong about diseased plants going into compost, a good compost should get hot, and using them bins is just a waste of money. You need to go to a channel that is called No Dig and see how good compost is made, he has a playlist that is just showing you how to make good compost, not the imbalanced compost you are making.
