CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Madeleine (Kim Novak) shares her deepest fears with Scottie (James Stewart) and he promises to stay with her.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Dismissed when first released, later heralded as one of director Alfred Hitchcock's finest films (and, according to Hitchcock, his most personal one), this adaptation of the French novel D'entre les morts weaves an intricate web of obsession and deceit. It opens as Scottie Ferguson (James Stewart) realizes he has vertigo, a condition resulting in a fear of heights, when a police officer is killed trying to rescue him from falling off a building. Scottie then retires from his position as a private investigator, only to be lured into another case by his old college friend, Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore). Elster's wife, Madeleine (Kim Novak), has been possessed by a spirit, and Elster wants Scottie to follow her. He hesitantly agrees, and thus begins the film's wordless montage as Scottie follows the beautiful yet enigmatic Madeleine through 1950s San Francisco (accompanied by Bernard Herrmann's hypnotic score). After saving her from suicide, Scottie begins to fall in love with her, and she appears to feel the same way. Here tragedy strikes, and each twist in the movie's second half changes our preconceptions about the characters and events. In 1996 a new print of Vertigo was released, restoring the original grandeur of the colors and the San Francisco backdrop, as well as digitally enhancing the soundtrack.

What a fantastic film. Never tire of watching it.
Its great isn't it
Again and again and again...you can watch it....without any tiredness or weariness... so enchanting, so mesmerizing! I indeed don't know any other film like that.
The waves crashing against the rocks just as their lips meet … the pounding tide symbolizing the rush of passion and desire overcoming them both… a truly cinematic moment.
Waves yes so good scene🌊
I love how she talks
she's my favorite Hitchcock blonde
Transatlantic accent
She is an utterly unique actress. She is mesmerizing.
@@cormorant_on_arock7934 also my favourite hitchcock blonde
Kim Novak's dusky voice is mesmerizing.
Mesmerizing - Novak and Stewart. Novak immortal screen goddess.
1:47 One of the most iconic kiss scenes in the history of films ❤️
Grace Kelly
in. slow motion
Her facial expression when she said "if I am mad" creeped the heck out of me when I was you g
lol. I love the way she says it. Kim Novak is a fantastic woman, and actress.
omg, I just watched it again, and I can totally see how just that tiny moment - her face as she is saying it (in that voice) - can be really strangely unsettling/creepy
The most beautiful scene ever.
Yes, with the entrance of grace kelly in rear window, in my opinion
The power of the sea…and the power of attraction….
What a masterpiece!🇮🇹🇬🇧♥️
i like the first part of this scene. it's so romantic, yet so sad. she goes to the tree like she is enchanted by the moment as much as she is enchanting to Scottie. Probably it was the gesture of taking her from under the oppressive tall trees, to this place by the sea, her realm. she gravitates towards another tree, a more Romantic one, more her size, and when she turns around she is so happy. … But then she is quickly embarrassed to find that he is running towards her, not as a lover "should," but out of panic that she is going to madly attempt suicide again. She prickles slightly when she asks him why he ran. His response is what is so sad to me. It's so sweet, yet so naïve. He is only Tantalizingly close to this heavenly woman, and her love. As Hitchcock himself was, I believe.
I saw it first time around ... it's lost none of the old Hitchcock magic.
Best scene in the whole movie! 💏
With the moment, when Judy becames Madeleine
I am mad and that would explain it wouldn't it :)
brilliant .
Scotty and Madeline/Judy fell hard for each other.
Gary L. Street The sad thing is that they both fell in love with their facades, not their real selves. And that's the real tragedy of it.
@@DanielS2001 Else there wouldn't be the movie !
Beautiful...
Essa cena eh linda demais!Como eu adoro esse filme!!!
Bella escena y Bella joya cinematográfica.
I'm pretty sure that wave splashed up like that by luck in this moment. had to be! I don't see how they could have planned it *that* well. would drive *them* all mad. … but I do think Hitch told Truffaut in their interview that it was a lucky splash. talk about Providence :)
Cormorant_on_aRock Actually, for the medium shots of standing at the tree for the conversation and the kiss, they shot those on set with rear projection and mixed it with the on-location footage they shot (the opening where she was walking towards the tree and he ran over to her, and the shot where she took off towards the waves and he followed her) . Hitchcock didn't like filming in San Francisco and only shot certain exterior scenes when it was only necessary. In fact, the interior scenes for Ernies' was not filmed at the real Ernies's. Hitchcock had an exact replica of a set built at the studio and then he invited staff and regulars to the restraint to film those scenes. The scene where they talk on the porch for Scottie's apartment is another noticeable example too.
It looks like a projection.
I KNOW THIS PLACE AND THIS PREE IN PARTICULAR; IT'S NEAR MONTEREY, AND THEY ARE KNOW AS THE MONTEREY TREES ! THE WINDS HAVE MADE THEM TAKING THAT SHAPE !
Fascinating description. Thanks for the post.
Stuart Little 2 brought me here...
AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition) #9

Supertramp 93 and 7th on the directors poll
@@randywhite3947 well deserved
Anyone come to this scene because of Stuart Little 2? Anyone?
I have
Me!
Me!
That movie was a great parallel to vertigo
Bambi and His Friends Stormy Night
HERE STARTS THE MOMENT OF THE DUMBASSES !
It was used a T.V. that Stuart and Margalo watch Vertigo on a Car Cinema.
Exactly Stuart Little 2
Nice foreshadowing on the film’s part. It’s actually pretty clever, because Margalo has been deceiving Stuart up to that point.
@@RiqueFresco HERE ENDS THE MOMENT OF THE DUMBASSES
greeeeeeeat scene ever
Hitchcock love san frisco 🌉
THE SAN FRANCISCANS HATE THAT REDNECKS CALL THEIR CITY "FRISCO" OR WHATEVER, IT'S SAN FRANCISCO !
Stuart Little 2
You bet
Are they at Point Lobos or Spanish Bay? Does anyone the location in the scene?
Shes talking about San Juan Bautista?
THIS IS A BIT FAR FROM POINT LOBOS, IT'S CLOSE TO MONTEREY BUT WHEN COMING FROM SAN FRANCISCO BY HIGHWAY 101
kim novak look like sharon stone in BASIC INSTINCT!!!
Why do you need to hurt Kim Novak, like that?
Sharon Stone looks like Kim Novak, not the other way 'round.
I hate you
NO, SHARON STONE CAME LATER AND SHE IS THE COPY-CAT !
@@robbybonfire9944 JEALOUSY AND STUPIDNESS !
I’ve seen this in Stuart Little 2. I thought this was the final scene.
Was her love for him fake initially… only to become a throbbing mess of longing for someone who’s in your company.
It was never part of the plan for “Madeleine” to be in love with Scottie. Seduce him? Perhaps. But not love. As Judy herself said “I made the mistake, I fell in love, that wasn’t part of the plan.”
Kim might as well have been kissing her dad old as jimmy was in this movie...😂😭
JEALOUS !
Casablanca
This clip is from Stuart Little 2
Lady ga ga could look just like her in a remake of movie
2view Except...
I hope this is irony.
Yeah guys, she isn't the most gorgeous, but well, they are similars.
you suck
Pls no remake of the best film of all time
Thank God for Marlon Brando and James Dean. without them we would be stuck with this horrible, wooden, cartoon actors.
You can’t be serious? Lmao
@@barryirvin2417 if you think that is good acting I think the joker is you!
Stewart is number 3 on AFI greatest actors of all time . Was a brilliant actor and great person . Get a clue dude .
@@barryirvin2417 oh so because is in the AFI list is one the best? He might be iconic but are you telling me he is better than Oldman, Denzel, Hopkins, Pacino, DeNiro, Di Caprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Nicholson, etc.? All those lists and the Oscars are just popularity contests but being objective Stward won't be even in the top 50 talking about acting skills...don't forget Brando change acting forever, making actors like Stewart obsolete.
