My fourth time watching this video, and I keep coming back for the demo. Vector mixing the two signals with the joystick is brilliant--a real A HA! revelation for me.

Thanks guy! I just got one of these and wondered how to remove the springs, did a quick search and voila 🤓

I LOVE alternate controllers! Have a couple Korgs with joysticks that are wonderful. I have a Kurzweil Ribbon Controller that's very complex. Back in the day, I used a Serge TKB controller/sequencer - AMAZING bit of kit! So I fully understand your "Don Buchla" approach to soundscapes.

Thanks Dave :) Yep, for me that's half the fun of modular! Finding cool different ways to control it :)

Hi Quincas, this demo is very inspiring! 5 years later, I wonder if your joystick has already become worn-out?

Just started building mine last night. The kit I got from SynthCube had all surface-mount resistors, which was unfortunate. I think I did ok with a fine tip on my iron. Tonight I'm gonna finish and test it. Fingers crossed...

you'll be fine! SMD is not any harder than DIP, just use a good magnifier.

Good stuff, thanks! Been watching all your videos lately.
I'm guessing you're familiar with the Befaco joystick module. Any reason you prefer this one to theirs?

Thanks! I never said I prefer this one :) The Befaco joystick looks really cool, and has two buttons to generate gates, while this one has the bipo/uni switch which is very useful too. I haven't personally tried the Befaco to have an opinion on the feel of the actual joystick, which is very important. So far I like the joystick in my self designed module best of all I've encountered. I think it's the same one used on the Doepfer. Cheers!

I literally just built the Befaco Joystick tonight! My build needs troubleshooting (and a new op amp) but I can report that the joystick is spring loaded so that it returns to the middle, so it's a slightly different beast.

Hi, thanks. This one is spring loaded too, I had to remove the back cover and pull out the springs. Can you do that to the befaco?

I'm not sure if it can be de-sprung and personally I wanted something that returns to zero. (Also I don't want to pull it apart after it took so long to get working - my fault, I didn't build it very well.) Yours looks similar to the Befaco one though - the model is JH-D202X R4 if that helps.
