I got these a few months ago, pro tip, if you can get the "Super Grills" mod from Custim Cans UK, they sell 3D printed modified grill replacements for the headphones that improve the sound by a lot, they add around 6-7 db sub bass, more soundstage and smooth out peaks and dips. These are definitely a pair of Hi Fi headphones, especially paired with something like a FiiO K7
I wouldn't say that these are really an audiophile headphones. Otherwise, a very great review! As the owner of these headphones I can confirm that everything is correct. Especially regarding the sound stage - these headphones sound wider than most from the same price category and some even more expensive ones.
Treble is smooth due to K7 use AKM dac chip. It makes highs a bit smooth if we comprae it to ESS dacs also bass is more controlled in K7. Also you need balanced cable to use full balanced K7 features. It makes 400se sound even more better
I think it’s a misconception to categorize headphones as “audiophile” based on their price tag alone. Expensive headphones can also sound terrible. How would you define an “audiophile” headphone?

its low on ohms you can run it from a phone in theory
Did you try out with balanced cable and grill mod?? It's supposed to enhance it a lot, specially for games

I have heard these are baby Sundara’s if you put the power to them.
I wish I had the Sundaras to compare them, but I think these are fantastic.
HE400SE are pretty entry level though not something I would call audiophile, imho the least expensive audiophile model in Hifiman line uo is the Arya.
