Such a multilayered topic that brings in science, compassion, progress, understanding, governments, knowledge, community, law, justice, and yes, spirituality. The U.S. has a brutal health care system that was made somewhat less brutal by the Affordable Health Care Act (thanks Barack, miss you). Depression still is very misunderstood and in some cultures, simply ignored and people who suffer are stigmatized. People have a long way to go and we seem to take one step forward and four steps backward. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Matt.

It's because of all the above that I am furthering my counseling skills so that I can provide affordable counsing to all.

Matt of all of your videos this one hits home the hardest. For those who have been there, who are there now or know someone who is ~it's so damn difficult when it's not easy to get help. Also for those who are lonely. We have a phone service where the wonderful elders of life can be called. Just for half an hour but to have contact with another human is it too much to ask for? And yes it's arghhhhhhh, everyone should have access to help in every country. Money shouldn't be the key to having therapy although I'm not saying therapists deserve less of a wage. It's hard being the one to listen and not to take it all home as well. I love to discuss Soul Shifter with my neighbour as you know but I think week would make her quite sad. Her husband died and although she has family they just don't see her loneliness. I will always appreciate your conversations and think addressing this is sensitive. Our societies should benefit from talking more instead of being given a tablet to numb it and not actually deal with it. And for the countries where you are made to pay exorbitantly, there is no justification! Matt I hope your work here continues to go far and wide. Wishing you a good week ahead, until next time as always 🙏💜🙏

Thanks for this comment Clair! It is precisely this reason that I am furthering my studies in counseling (I already have a counseling qualification) so that I can provide quality talk-therapy to everyone.

I suffer from depression and other mental health issues. I didn't leave my house for many years because of agoraphobia. People think we're lucky in the UK as we have the NHS but it's an absolute shambles when it comes to mental health care. My support worker left her job and I waited nearly 3 years for a replacement, went to the Ombudsman and got struck off the Mental Health Team's list shortly afterwards, despite my gp referring me back to them 3 times. I guess that was punishment for complaining. I've looked for private therapy in my area and the cheapest was £100 per session. I couldn't possibly afford that on a regular basis! So now I have to battle my demons on my own. I rely heavily on Hinduism, art and repetitive video games that are kind of mind numbing in a useful way!

Affordable counseling should be available for everyone. I have started on my advanced counseling diploma for this very reason - to offer affordable talk-therapy to all at a very low rate. Right now I'm only qualified to do basic counseling for things like anxiety and stress, but even so, I am a firm believer in low cost counseling for all.
