Jim Bob and Michelle failed their daughters. first by parentifying them, and then by shielding their abuser and shifting the blame/guilt onto them. and then they failed others by not getting Josh actual treatment while he was still young enough for it to have an impact.
I honestly believe their younger children would be better off being placed with their adult sisters/relatives or being taken by CPS. JB and Michelle have proven they cannot be trusted as parents and I personally have suspicions about JB. He's probably got a lot of skeletons in his closet judging by how he treated Josh compared to his daughters throughout all of this.

But in Michelle's case she's not just being abused by Jim Bob in particularly, but also in the religious sense where she's been trained to believe that she's lesser than him and even her son. I am pretty sure it’s more commonly called child exploitation at least when not talking about the legal charges term. The legal charge term is child p-word (its a gross word to put next to child so I’m not). Also it’s hard to clarify what’s what when it comes to that sort of thing because certain state laws. If the child is 17 which is still a minor but in most states allowed to consent then it’s hard to know exactly what the situation is (obviously still wrong) but we also know that Josh wasn’t looking at 17 year olds (which is equally as gross) he was looking at little ones so it’s not hard to recognize that he was definitely looking at exploitative images of a child

There is plenty of examples of coercive or genuinely non-consensual porn online on the clear web. I would honestly argue that a large portion of it is. I don’t understand why we only refer to it as “abuse images” in regards to children, and I am speaking as a survivor of CSA. I feel as if it sanitizes the intent behind the abuse and undermines the pervasive nature of rape culture.

They also said basically “it’s not a big deal because he did it while the girls were asleep, so they didn’t even know they had been molested. That makes it okay.” Aside from the absolute horror of that kind of justification, this court case proved that it wasn’t true AT ALL. Jim Bob kept telling the public that Josh was a curious child that snuck in to his sisters’ bedroom at night and looked under their nightgowns. As troubling as that behavior would be, what Josh actually did was SO much more and SO much worse.

“ I don’t recall” is basically Jim Bob playing a loop hole to avoid perjury while protecting Josh. It’s very hard to prove whether someone actually does recall. Therefore you have a low likelihood of being charged with perjury.
Well, I will say this he convinced the judge to put Josh with that family who became his guardians, the judge had released and agreed to this against his better judgement, JB brought off the judge with that deal, I wouldn’t doubt it. I still wouldn’t be shocked if that Judge got into a bunch of trouble with the state.

She will dig in her heels and say “I don’t remember that”, even for huge life events that she couldn’t possibly have forgotten. She just acts incredulous and like *we’re* the crazy ones because we keep pushing when she says she doesn’t remember these huge events.

Defense Attorneys are often angels holding up the Justice System. Without Due Process, the court system cannot function, and yet so many people rigorously defend the rights of monsters to protect the next person who goes to court. I hope he bills the family/community for millions considering the heinous stuff he had to read/see to do his job. (There are bad attorneys too, like Cochran, but many many more good people who believe in Justice and enjoy doing their best then seeing the guilty criminals go to prison)

I'm concerned for the Duggar kids who are still living with their parents. Considering JB's domineering behavior, along with the fact that he just lost his golden child AND an election, those poor kids are probably going to be going through hell in the coming months. Judging by Michelle and JB's accounts of how they met, I would wager JB has predatory tendencies as well.
I believe the state should consider placing their younger kids with the adult sisters/relatives that have cut themselves off from JB and Michelle or allow CPS to take custody of the children. This situation/trial has more than shown that JB and Michelle cannot be trusted to be good parents IMO.

As for Jana, in my opinion, kids get away from parents or babysitters and wander off. I remember well when my little one wandered through a hole in the fence. I was in a panic. We lived a few houses up the street from my parents and believe it or not he went to their house. I was surprised he would remember how to go there. My Uncle was sitting on the front porch and saw him at the gate so let him in. He just figured he came to see grandma. Mom didn't know this was going on until I found him playing in the yard. I even taught my kids if we were shopping if they got separated from me to never leave the store. That happened once too. I had 4 close in age and it is not easy to keep track of that many. Look how many Jana had to watch. 7 of Anna's plus her own siblings. Michelle never watched her kids but turned them over to the older kids to care for. Jana has been a mother to all her siblings.

Not gonna lie, I feel bad for Jana having to go through that child endangerment thing. She’s been raising her own siblings since she was 3 years old. I’d be exhausted and want a nap after babysitting non-stop for 30 years.
I know it’s just a rumor, but I’d heard that she was ill and that’s why she fell asleep. I did that once with my own kid when he was 2. I had a cold and ended up falling asleep on the couch without realizing it or intending to. I was just lucky he didn’t dash out the door. Instead I woke up to my downstairs bathroom and hallway covered in about a half-inch of baby powder. There was even baby powder on the light fixtures. And of course my baby was delighted by the thick layer of powder covering him and the way it fell out of his hair when he shook his head. That was 10 years ago and I swear I’m still cleaning bits of baby powder off the baseboards. It’s just SO easy for kids to take an opportunity to get up to trouble and go for it. And if Jana was supervising a large number of kids, there should have been a 2nd (or 3rd) adult there to help. If they were her kids and she had 6 of them it’s fine not to have backup, but they’re obviously not Jana’s kids. She should have had backup. Especially if she was unwell.

I feel like in this instance, that the kids should be separated from Anna while they conduct psychological screening on Anna (non religious screening that is), to determine whether the kids need to be assigned a guardian (in my opinion this needs to be someone that is not affiliated with the Duggar's at this point). Not to put the full blame on Anna, but you almost should be questioning if she is fit to have her kids in her 100% care due to the matter that she continued to stay with Josh and even more so if some of their kids were victims of Josh. Whether this should be permanent or temporary, I can't be the judge of that.

Court ordered evaluation is a part of the court process to see if the children might part of the pool of victims too. I trust the Duggars are going to be disparaging process and saying that they are targeted for being Christians...No Duggars, you are being held out to minimize the damage for protecting the monster you raised. I don't know how others in AR feel but I know this case has been on my mind a lot since they were such a huge presence while I was growing up. If it's any consolation, it's normal, but I think you know that. Brains just work with practice. The more you do a thing, the more established a neural path is. Continuous lying and gas lighting, for example, do that in very harmful ways and always the victims are told that the perpetrator means well, implying that that is good reason to let them off the hook or at the very least not cause a ruckus, completely ignoring how much more damage it does to tell a victim to just take it and shut up. My problem though is that, like the OP, many people think it's just fundamentalism that does this. Faith by definition does this and forces the victim to be more susceptible to any form of abuse. You're demanded to assume the goodness of your god and that everything bad is either your fault or for a greater good and you should just take it and shut up; don't blame your god for anything, ever, or you're a doubter and not a believer and you won't get to go to the party in heaven. So much for inclusivity, but far worse than that, it's abusive to teach faith as a virtue. Doubt is a virtue and faith destroys honest critical thought that is fundamental to everyone's first defence against abuse and scams. Anyone asking you to have faith is not your friend. It's a huge red flag for manipulation and other forms of abuse. All religions do it and all religions are abusive, not just the more fundamental ones.

So way back in the day, some of the horror channels that read creepypastas and what not talked about a CSAM videos and what happened to the man that made them that JD was later recorded downloading. It remains the single most horrific thing I have ever heard. It makes a Serbian Film sound like Disney. As soon as I saw the name of that video on JD's court papers, my mind was beyond made up. To be clear, I did prison ministry for years in Virginia (a red state that has started to tint purple), and clergy privilege is very specific, and typically requires the person to be "ordained clergy". In fact, we could not even allow Catholic Nuns with a huge amount of experience counseling people to take confessions, because they are not officially "ordained" in the Catholic Church. We did not want anyone to have to testify against someone for a crime that they have not been convicted of, because it really complicates what we do within the prison system. By the way, if anyone had confessed to me, about something that they had not been convicted of, no matter how mild of a crime, I would have been legally obligated to turn them in, because I am not a clergy person, and there is no privilege with me. I literally was taught by people who were detectives, criminal attorneys, etc. to shut down any conversation that sounded like it was going in that direction to avoid being placed in a complicated legal situation. Note: Most of the offenders that I dealt with were non-violent drug offenders. Also, maybe the reason that there was no content on Josh's mac devices, is because that would have killed the claims that someone "hacked into his system", and, "planted the images on his device".

Not a legal expert either, but they might be able to face charges for neglect or child endangerment. I think it'd be really difficult to convict them on that though, because they'd probably say "Oh the Holts worked with him on that and we thought he was safe!" and the prosecution would have to show that the parents knew he was an active threat following that. Plus, re: treatment of Josh, they could just say therapy was against their religion. TL;DR: They absolutely should but I think it'd be real fucking hard to make the charges stick
I found out that he was found guilty at work and almost started to cry. I'm so happy that he's going to at least face some justice for the horrible things he's done. I hope his sisters and the other victim will be able to get some closure and now feel safer knowing he'll be in prison soon.

I am pretty sure it’s more commonly called child exploitation at least when not talking about the legal charges term. The legal charge term is child p-word (its a gross word to put next to child so I’m not). Also it’s hard to clarify what’s what when it comes to that sort of thing because certain state laws. If the child is 17 which is still a minor but in most states allowed to consent then it’s hard to know exactly what the situation is (obviously still wrong) but we also know that Josh wasn’t looking at 17 year olds (which is equally as gross) he was looking at little ones so it’s not hard to recognize that he was definitely looking at exploitative images of a child

There is plenty of examples of coercive or genuinely non-consensual porn online on the clear web. I would honestly argue that a large portion of it is. I don’t understand why we only refer to it as “abuse images” in regards to children, and I am speaking as a survivor of CSA. I feel as if it sanitizes the intent behind the abuse and undermines the pervasive nature of rape culture.

Never forget the time that the Duggars tried to justify that "Josh was a child preying on a child, not an adult preying on a child."
They also said basically “it’s not a big deal because he did it while the girls were asleep, so they didn’t even know they had been molested. That makes it okay.”

I'm concerned for the Duggar kids who are still living with their parents. Considering JB's domineering behavior, along with the fact that he just lost his golden child AND an election, those poor kids are probably going to be going through hell in the coming months. Judging by Michelle and JB's accounts of how they met, I would wager JB has predatory tendencies as well.
I believe the state should consider placing their younger kids with the adult sisters/relatives that have cut themselves off from JB and Michelle or allow CPS to take custody of the children. This situation/trial has more than shown that JB and Michelle cannot be trusted to be good parents IMO.

As for Jana, in my opinion, kids get away from parents or babysitters and wander off. I remember well when my little one wandered through a hole in the fence. I was in a panic. We lived a few houses up the street from my parents and believe it or not he went to their house. I was surprised he would remember how to go there. My Uncle was sitting on the front porch and saw him at the gate so let him in. He just figured he came to see grandma. Mom didn't know this was going on until I found him playing in the yard. I even taught my kids if we were shopping if they got separated from me to never leave the store. That happened once too. I had 4 close in age and it is not easy to keep track of that many. Look how many Jana had to watch. 7 of Anna's plus her own siblings. Michelle never watched her kids but turned them over to the older kids to care for. Jana has been a mother to all her siblings.

It’s just SO easy for kids to take an opportunity to get up to trouble and go for it.

I feel like in this instance, that the kids should be separated from Anna while they conduct psychological screening on Anna (non religious screening that is), to determine whether the kids need to be assigned a guardian (in my opinion this needs to be someone that is not affiliated with the Duggar's at this point). Not to put the full blame on Anna, but you almost should be questioning if she is fit to have her kids in her 100% care due to the matter that she continued to stay with Josh and even more so if some of their kids were victims of Josh. Whether this should be permanent or temporary, I can't be the judge of that.

I really appreciate that you use the term CSA images instead of CP. I think we should all move away from the old terminology because as you said, it is not CP. That’s like when someone says an aduld “had sex with” a child. No they didn’t “have sex”, that is rape. Language is so important and such sensitive topics really need to be called what they are and not sugarcoated or painted in such a perverse light.

Indeed. If it's any consolation, it's normal, but I think you know that. Brains just work with practice. The more you do a thing, the more established a neural path is. Continuous lying and gas lighting, for example, do that in very harmful ways and always the victims are told that the perpetrator means well, implying that that is good reason to let them off the hook or at the very least not cause a ruckus, completely ignoring how much more damage it does to tell a victim to just take it and shut up.
My problem though is that, like the OP, many people think it's just fundamentalism that does this. Faith by definition does this and forces the victim to be more susceptible to any form of abuse. You're demanded to assume the goodness of your god and that everything bad is either your fault or for a greater good and you should just take it and shut up; don't blame your god for anything, ever, or you're a doubter and not a believer and you won't get to go to the party in heaven. So much for inclusivity, but far worse than that, it's abusive to teach faith as a virtue. Doubt is a virtue and faith destroys honest critical thought that is fundamental to everyone's first defence against abuse and scams. Anyone asking you to have faith is not your friend. It's a huge red flag for manipulation and other forms of abuse. All religions do it and all religions are abusive, not just the more fundamental ones.

So way back in the day, some of the horror channels that read creepypastas and what not talked about a CSAM videos and what happened to the man that made them that JD was later recorded downloading. It remains the single most horrific thing I have ever heard. It makes a Serbian Film sound like Disney. As soon as I saw the name of that video on JD's court papers, my mind was beyond made up. I hope he never gets out of the hole they will have to put him in and I only offer healing vibes to anyone effected by him. This case perfectly shows that sweeping things under the rug only makes them fester.

To be clear, I did prison ministry for years in Virginia (a red state that has started to tint purple), and clergy privilege is very specific, and typically requires the person to be "ordained clergy". In fact, we could not even allow Catholic Nuns with a huge amount of experience counseling people to take confessions, because they are not officially "ordained" in the Catholic Church. We did not want anyone to have to testify against someone for a crime that they have not been convicted of, because it really complicates what we do within the prison system. By the way, if anyone had confessed to me, about something that they had not been convicted of, no matter how mild of a crime, I would have been legally obligated to turn them in, because I am not a clergy person, and there is no privilege with me. I literally was taught by people who were detectives, criminal attorneys, etc. to shut down any conversation that sounded like it was going in that direction to avoid being placed in a complicated legal situation.
Note: Most of the offenders that I dealt with were non-violent drug offenders.
Also, maybe the reason that there was no content on Josh's mac devices, is because that would have killed the claims that someone "hacked into his system", and, "planted the images on his device".

So considering it was affirmed Josh previously --lested sisters years ago, the parents definitely should be able to face charges for that? Not having his child registered, admitted and also harboring a known offender in the community? There's got to be alot they can do with obstruction of justice? I'm no legal expert so anyone else here know what the parents could be held accountable for?
Not a legal expert either, but they might be able to face charges for neglect or child endangerment. I think it'd be really difficult to convict them on that though, because they'd probably say "Oh the Holts worked with him on that and we thought he was safe!" and the prosecution would have to show that the parents knew he was an active threat following that. Plus, re: treatment of Josh, they could just say therapy was against their religion. TL;DR: They absolutely should but I think it'd be real fucking hard to make the charges stick
I found out that he was found guilty at work and almost started to cry. I'm so happy that he's going to at least face some justice for the horrible things he's done. I hope his sisters and the other victim will be able to get some closure and now feel safer knowing he'll be in prison soon.
Yeah, but for how long? And will they feel safe if he gets out early on good behaviour? Does the US have the option to have criminals like this admitted to high security psychiatric wards? That to me seems like the bare minimum that is needed before he could ever be considered possibly safe to release into the population.

My heart feels heavy for all the kids that were pulled into this, the young duggar girls, his kids, the children in the media he consumed and other children that have come into contact with him. All the adults that were, and are, supposed to keep them safe have failed them. Heartbreaking.
