    A first class video. I should have read the advice about only trying it for the first time on an light wind day before my first attempt with a newly purchased RS Vareo, when I discovered they were right with their prediction that you will invevitably find yourself capsized at some stage while sailing with it (:-))

    Hi guys... Congrats for this excellent video... You just NAILED IT!
    it makes beginners like me which love to sail, but are still with respect in the process of learning a LOT more confident to try the new and more complex maneuvers...i looked this video (and your other vids) again and again, and with visualizing the single steps (which turned out as a ritual every day, especially before sleeping) i achieve some kind of feeling for "what has to happen when and WHY"...the rest I think is training and rehearse....finding the steps into stronger winds and conditions...so you simply encouraged my target! Thanxx a lot for that... Keep on with your inspiring vids...philipp

    • @sailaboattv

      Hi Estel. For the videos we used a variety of boats. Either RS Feva (the small one) or RS Vision. These I think are mostly European boats as we are UK based., and we also used the Laser Bahia which is available internationally. For the single handed ones we mostly used the Laser Radial and full rig. For guidance on boats I suggest you go to a local sailing/yacht club and ask what is best for that particular location as this does vary depending on environment. Hope that helps!

      sailaboattv Thank you very much for the information! I was thinking to buy a laser Radial but I would like to take someone on the boat... so maby the RS Vision could work better! • @sailaboattv
      @sailaboattv  6 років тому +1

      Hi Estel The radial is of course a single person boat so it depends on what you want to do. The Vision is big and heavy and I wouldn't recommend it for one person. The radial is a great boat to learn in. Plenty of excitement but does not have the full rig. There is also the option of the 4.7 rig which is smaller still and better if learning so perhaps look at this option too. We teach in the radial as well with good results. Best advice is go to your local club and see what they sail and advise. Where are you?

      I am not familiar with this boat, but looking at pictures it looks like a sensible boat to use. Have a look through our videos on the channel. We have tried to break down all the mumbo jumbo and put things in an easy to understand way - well that was the intention. Otherwise perhaps consider going on a sailing course near where you are once all the restrictions are lifted. Here you will be shown what to do, Our videos align with standard teaching courses.

Over here in the UK, I am a senior sailing instructor (over 18 years teaching) and the Royal Yachting Association with who these videos are based on their courses, a spinnaker is the generic term for any downwind sail. We don’t differentiate courses for symmetrical and asymmetrical sails, it over complicated things for newbies. Perhaps in the US you run different workshops. Our videos are aimed at newbies. If different boats and sails can attain a higher point of sailing then great but my experience is they don’t. It’s all about apparent wind. The faster you go the more the wind moves round. If you watch the AC foilers they are sailing downwind but appear to be close hauled. Our videos don’t cover this but take everything at is simplest to encourage folk to first understand then learn what to do.
      Also here is the Wikipedia definition en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinnaker
      Go search in types and you will see the asymmetric spinnaker explained here too
