  • During our time in Brazil we are visiting Rio de Janeiro (much more later). Today we explore one of Rio de Janeiro's most popular places to visit called Leme Fort near Copacabana beach. We walk up to Leme Fort. We begin at Copacabana beach and walk along the beach. We see many locals and tourists. We stop to buy some street food (coconut water). We soak in the beautiful views of the ocean. We then start our short hike in the jungle up to Leme Fort. Up at the Fort, we learn about some of the history. At the top you get very scenic views of Rio de Janeiro and Copacabana. We see many monkeys playing around in the trees. We then walk to the bottom and as we leave Leme Fort we answer some of your questions about travel and brazil. In this video, we see what a touristic place in Rio is like during Covid 19 in Brasil.

I love the baby monkeys. I love their mother too. It's a lot of work for mum: carrying them, feeding them, protecting them, teaching them survival skills.

About health insurance: in Brazil you have private and public health. Everyone can get public health assistance, for Covid or anything else. This is valid for those that are visiting Brazil. In other world’s, if you need medical or hospital assistance, anywhere in Brazil, you can get it by free, you don’t have to spend a penny, even if you are just traveling here.

Hi Lindsey! Thank you for coming to Brazil! Those little guys are like squirrels in the US because we can easily find them in several Brazilian cities. We call them saguis or micos - Marmoset and Tamarin monkeys. Places do visit in Bahia: In the North along the coast (beaches, natural rock pools, warm seawater, waterfalls, rivers and lagoons - the climate is more arid than in the south) - Praia do Forte, Imbassaí, Baixio, Sitio do Conde, Barra de Itariri, Mangue Seco. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////// In the South along the coast (beaches, waterfalls, rivers, some natural rock pools, and lush green vegetation) - Morro de São Paulo, Barra Grande, Maraú and Taipu de Fora, Baia de Camamu, Itacaré, Trancoso, Caraíva.//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// In the center of Bahia (mountains, waterfalls, caves, prehistoric cave paintings, rivers, and ponds): Chapada Diamantina National Part - Lençois, Mucugê, Igatu, Andaraí, Vale do Capão, Vale do Pati are some of the places that you can stay and there are several things to see in each of those places. Welcome to Brazil and to Bahia!!!!

Alex, you MUST GO to Paraty. It's a beautiful colonial small city, on the beach, not far from Rio, mix of history + nature + beach. There you can take a trip through the islands in one of the boats that leaves from the pier, it's cheap and super cool. Paraty is on a bay, all the gold coming from Minas Gerais was going there to be taken to Portugal. The french pirates used to wait on the islands outside the bay to steal it. In the old town you can see free mason signs on the corners of the houses. It's definitely a place to go before you travel further to the countryside.

That‘s nice! When you come to Manaus you will find the authentic dishes from here, the original açai, tacaca, many river fishes and other local fruits! Besides the Amazon tapiocas and the
Sandwich called X Caboquinho, original from here. See what you guys can do over here:
You spend less money staying in Manaus and doing the tours beginning in the city
1st day - visit the downton in Manaus with the iconic Opera House. There is also some good parks telling more about the Amazon, one of the called Musa, you can climb a staircase to see the forest from above. And in the other you can see animals there are rescued from the nature (INPA)
2nd day - You can go in a river boat to see the Meeting the water (two massive river that keep about six Kilometers without mix) and later try to fish the biggest fish of Amazon (Pirarucu) ans also visit a flooting community in the Amazon Basis river. You are going to eat in a flooting house and walk in a wood pathway to see the waterlillies and a big tree from amazon (and luckely some monkeys)
3rd day - you are going to get a river tour and visit a indian community and see their dances and try their food (smoked fish and ants) and also interact with the amazonian pink douphins from a flooting house. Than you will have the opportunity to visit the Rubber Museum, a museum just reachable by boot.
4th and 5th and 6th day? You can have the experience of sleeping in a jungle lodge and do some tour from there, maybe 2 or three nights, it is up to you
    Another days options:
    - Go to Novo Airão and see the second biggest archipelago of the world: Anavilhanas
    - Go to Presidente Figueiredo (100km from Manaus) and see the beautiful amazonian warterfalls) you can do a day tour for that or overnight because there is plenty of waterfalls, rapids and florest caves over there!
Well if I remeber more I tell you later! Have another good day!!

Bahia is a very beautiful state. The beaches around there are nice, Salvador got a historical center which was recently revitalized, and people are welcoming. However, there are some places that I highly recommend you to visit: Iguaçu Falls in Paraná, Bonito in Mato Grosso do Sul, Chapada dos Veadeiros in Goiás, Lençóis Maranhenses in Maranhão, Jalapão in Tocantins, and Alter do Chão in Pará. Those are the most beautiful places I have been in Brazil and they are way beyond being only beaches. Moreover, you would be visiting 4 out of the 6 different biomas we have to offer: Mata Atlantica Rainforest (Rio/Foz do Iguaçu), Amazon Rainforest (Alter), cerrado (Bonito/Chapada), and caatinga (some parts of Lençóis) and could even extend your trip to visit Pantanal from Bonito. Be aware that summer is just around the corner and the heavy rains are ordinary during this season, so be careful when visiting beaches (lightning strikes are a real risk) -- and waterfalls (flash foods are common). If you want to avoid rains, Northeast is the best choice, since it usually doesn't rain there during summer.

Hello Travelbum. I was happy to know that you will be coming to Bahia. I apologize in advance for the immense text I am going to write, but I guarantee that here you can find valuable tips. I am from here in Salvador and, if it were not for this difficult moment that we are going through, I would offer to do a cultural tour of the main points of the city. Who knows in another moment. Well, since you're coming here, I'll give you some tips on places for you to visit. Bahia is a very large state and there are several very beautiful regions within it. Salvador, its capital, was the first capital of Portuguese territory in the Americas and is the blackest city outside the African continent. Black culture is present in all cultural, religious, culinary aspects ... of this city and this, for me, is a source of great pride.
In the south of the state you could visit the municipality of Porto Seguro and its very famous districts: Arraial D'Ajuda, Trancoso and Caraíva, there you will learn a little about the country's history, Portuguese conquest, indigenous culture and etc ... A little further north, I suggest a visit to Ilhéus and Itacaré, two beautiful municipalities, with nature on all sides. Still south of Salvador, in the municipality of Valença, you can visit Morro de São Paulo and the entire Peninsula of Maraú, I guarantee it will be worth it. In the center of the state there is the Chapada Diamantina National Park, subdivided between several different municipalities; there are fantastic places to be visited, such as Morro do Pai Inácio, Fazenda Pratinha, Cachoeira da Fumaça and etc ... I suggest you stay in the municipality of Lençóis, the best prepared to receive tourists. In Salvador (my hometown) there is a lot to do, unfortunately I do not know if everything will be open due to the pandemic ... Here in the city do not miss visiting the neighborhoods of Pelourinho and Santo Antônio Além do Carmo, these neighborhoods have a series museums, churches, cultural centers, restaurants, etc. I suggest a visit to the Afro-Brazilian Museum, the Casa do Carnaval da Bahia (a must see), the Misericórdia Museum, the Tempostal Museum, the UFBA Archeology and Ethnology Museum, the Solar Ferrão Cultural Center, the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation, to the Church of São Francisco, to the Cathedral Basilica of Salvador, to the Church of the Rosary of the Blacks (preferably they go on a Tuesday because, on this day, the famous Tuesday of the Blessing happens ... I cannot confirm if it continues happening in this period), Bahian Gastronomy Museum, Forte da Capoeira, Praça Castro Alves.

Visit the Lacerda Elevator, which was the first public elevator and, at the time, the highest in the world; it connects Cidade Baixa to Cidade Alta. Curiosity: many tourists complain about the fact that the elevator does not have a panoramic view, however it was not designed to be a tourist point but a means of transport, its tipping occurred while it was already with the current structure, so it can no longer be modified Another important point is that it could not be glazed, since one of its characteristics is that it is a point of reference for those who come from the sea towards the city. Visit the Mercado Modelo, known for being one of the largest handicraft markets in the country. Visit the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia, patron saint of the state of Bahia, the MAM (Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, the view from this place is incredible and you can, by renting a boat, have access to one of the most peaceful and delicious beaches of the city), visit the Museum of Sacred Art (the view from there is also breathtaking). In this area there is a wide variety of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, ice cream parlors and etc., for all tastes and prices. I suggest that you have an ice cream from the Cuban Ice Cream Parlor that is close to Largo do Pelourinho, the experience there (in my opinion) is better than that of the same ice cream parlor located in the Elevador Lacerda.

Leaving the Historic Center and leaving south of the capital, I suggest you visit Largo Dois de Julho, popularly known as Praça do Campo Grande, the Christmas decoration of this place is spectacular. In the Corredor da Vitória neighborhood and in the neighboring neighborhood called Graça, you can find other interesting museums, the Bahia Art Museum, the Carlos Costa Pinto Museum, the Bahia Geological Museum and the Palacete das Artes. At the end of the Vitória Corridor there is a viewpoint with a very beautiful view, worth checking out. Down the slope you will reach Barra, another very well known and popular neighborhood here in Salvador. In this neighborhood be sure to visit the Fortes de Santa Maria and São Diogo, there are museums inside each of them; also visit the Farol da Barra, inside you will find another museum and you can climb the tower of the lighthouse, the view from up there is spectacular (curiosity: the fortress of Santo Antônio da Barra - where the lighthouse is today - it was, according to some historians , the first military fortification in the entire American continent). Still in Barra, visit Morro do Cristo, in my opinion, the view from this place is even more beautiful. Regarding the beach I suggest a swim in Porto da Barra, try to arrive at a time when the beach is not so full, the waters are crystal clear and warm, enjoy. Still in Barra, if you want to solve something, eat something that is not traditional here, you can go to Shopping Barra. Leaving Barra, be sure to visit the Rio Vermelho, this is known for being the most bohemian neighborhood in Salvador, its nightlife is usually bustling, especially on Fridays. There, be sure to visit Casa do Rio Vermelho, home to the famous writers Jorge Amado and Zélia Gattai.

More to the commercial center of the city an important stopping point is the Dique do Tororó, enjoy the sculptures of the orixás (gods worshiped in religions of African origin), the place is very beautiful to photograph. In Cidade Baixa, be sure to visit the Senhor do Bonfim Church, this is the most famous religious temple in the city and the stage for one of the biggest religious celebrations in the country: Lavagem do Bonfim. Relatively close to the Church (you may need to take an uber, if you don't want to walk), I suggest you visit Ponta de Humaitá and Forte de Monte Serrat (beautiful and with a beautiful view), in another nearby neighborhood, Ribeira, no stop having an ice cream at Solar Amado Bahia - Museu do Sorvete (this is better, in my opinion) or at Sorveteria da Ribeira. On the other side of the city has the famous neighborhood of Itapuã, visit the lighthouse, the siren of Itapuã and the restaurant Casa di Vina (place that was once the residence of the poet Dorival Caymmi and today houses a small museum in his honor). Next to the Itapuã neighborhood you will find the Stella Maris neighborhood, there visit Flamengo Beach, one of the most beautiful in the city in my opinion, there you will also find a large structure of tents, in case you want to eat something or have a drink.

Salvador has 3 islands, all in the capital's Suburb. I suggest visiting Ilha de Maré and Ilha dos Frades, the beaches and all the nature of these places are spectacular, especially on Ilha dos Frades. To get there you can take a boat at the Bahia Nautical Tourist Terminal, close to Mercado Modelo. These Suburban beauties deserve to be on your list. In this same place you also have access to the speedboats and boats that leave towards Morro de São Paulo, I suggest that if you want to know this location, book at least 2 or 3 days. With regard to natural parks, there are some in Salvador that are worth visiting, I suggest Parque da Cidade - a green area right in the middle of the buildings - and Parque das Dunas (this is close to Flamengo Beach and has some species endemic). Leaving Salvador towards the North Coast of the state, I suggest that you visit Praia do Forte (there you will find the Tamar Project - a project that rescues and treats sea turtles and other marine animals - the Garcia D'Ávila Castle - the only castle registered in style medieval Brazil, now in ruins - the Humpback Whale Project, the Klaus Peters Park, the Sapiranga Reserve - these last two are excellent places to appreciate the local fauna and flora). I suggest that you visit the beaches of this town at low tide, so you can see the natural pools that form along the coast. Further north, I suggest that you also visit the village of Imbassaí and Baixio and relax in the waters of the river, the sea or the local lagoons.

Bahian cuisine is the richest, in diversity of dishes, in the country and, despite not being the most consumed, it is worth trying everything it has to offer. Do not forget to try the acarajé, the abará (both accompanied by vatapá, caruru, salad and shrimp and, if you have the courage, pepper. Hehehehehe), the moqueca (be it fish, shrimp, lobster, octopus or any other seafood, worth a try), the student dumpling, the cocada, the chicken xinxim, the shellfish, the crab picked and etc ... If you want to try a local alcoholic drink do not forget to try the cloves, which you you will find in the district of Pelourinho in a bar popularly known as "O Cravinho". As for accommodation, I suggest you settle in the neighborhood of Barra, there are many options for hotels, hostels, inns and etc ... If you arrive by plane in Salvador, I suggest you take the subway to the city's shopping center, it is safe, clean and fast, in addition to being a much cheaper option than uber or taxi. Well, for now these are my tips for you. I hope you enjoy our country a lot because each state, each city, each location has something good to offer. I hope to see other videos of you in other states of our immense Brazil. I wish you a lot of success, a lot of health and make excellent trips. Brazil has more than 5.000 cities, and most of them are quite safe. The problem is Rio de Janeiro is a city with too much crime and unfortunately people take that as if it were the whole country.

Hello guys, I've been following your trip here in Brazil, and if I may give you some options: From Rio, since you guys enjoy taking bus trips but not so long ones, I'd take a bus to Vitoria - It's basically halfway between Rio and Bahia, and its a capital city in an island (out of two in Brazil, the other one being down south in Florianopolis), also it's known to have a culture mixed of Northeast and Southest, stay there a couple of days. From there, I'd take a bus to Porto Seguro, which is a small but VERY touristic beach city (very tropical vibes, palm tress, etc), stay there also one or two days, more to relax on the beaches. - Bear in mind that Rio-Vitoria and Vitoria-Porto Seguro are both routes that take around 10 hours each, but I feel it's a way better form of exploring the country. (Despite being quite tiring) Then, the last leg would be to get to Salvador, the capital of Bahia, also around 10 hours by bus, Salvador deserves a few days at least, a lot to see and explore. So basically, dividing the 30 hour bus trip into 3 trips of 10 hours each and a few days in between them. That can be exhaustive, because of a lot of bus journeys, but that's the other option you have instead of flying straight to Salvador. ----- North of Salvador you have many state capital cities by the coast very close by, around 2/3 hours drive each and it's a lovely trip to make (Aracaju, Maceió, Recife, João Pessoa and Natal. There's also Fortaleza and São Luis, but those two are further away, which means a few more hours on buses). Basically you have two options: fly straight to Salvador and bus hop these northeastern capitals, or go bus hopping in cities since Rio. Hope it helps. xx

I'm sorry you guys received so much backlash and had to delete the last video. I agree with you. Better be safe than sorry. I'm Brazilian, but I don't live in Rio. I live in a very safe area and everyone in my family is terrified of even visiting Rio. Anyways, I went there last year alone and I had the time of my life. Of course I listened to what the locals said and never used my phone in public and stuff. I loved the city and I plan to go back many times but we have to face the reality: the city has been in trouble with safety for many years, there's no way to deny it. Keep posting videos and don't listen to haters - they will always be in the comments. Once again, better be safe than sorry. Once you visit other regions you may feel safer. Upside of all this horror that Brazilians paint when talking about safety is that you get to be aware and not do things that will make you go through the worst. It's better when tourists are safe and sound.
