    Interesting report, had me wondering just how this is actually used. No doubt there's money in predicting which areas will see the greatest rise in property value and such maps feed into that rather well. Hopefully some actual benefit will come from it too.

      I find it sad how deserted Plymouth looks in some places. So many shops that are closed down. We used to use the shops all the time I think now there is drake circus it's kind of taken over. Leaving less jobs available and the poor even poorer. I'm sure there are more people on the streets in Plymouth then there ever has.

    Having grown up in Hermitage, a hamlet just outside Emsworth, I can attest to the huge economic inequality. Chichester and all around the yacht basin is extremely affluent, most of the way through to Emsworth, although there are smaller more deprived areas throughout Southbourne and Nutbourne. Central Havant is relatively middle classed for the most part, but Warblington, which is between Emsworth and Havant is also very deprived, probably on a similar level to Leigh Park. I was in the relatively rare position of having reasonable exposure to both ends of the scale, as my Dad was a boat builder in Emsworth and my Mum worked for Lloyds Bank in Leigh Park, so I had a childhood of both extremes really. I went to Nursery school in Leigh Park, as it was convenient for my Mum's work, but would spend the weekends out on yachts and speed boats and at Emsworth/Slipper sailing club.
    Having said all that, I have since lived in Bournemouth and Salisbury, as well as some rural areas and seen similar inequality in all of the more built up areas. Bournemouth has many areas with muilti-million pound homes, like Canford Magna, Sandbanks and parts of Ferndown as well as some very deprived areas like Trickett's Cross, West Howe and Turlin Moor. Likewise, although not to the same extent Salisbury has some fairly affluent areas like Ford, but also some very deprived like Bemerton Heath.
    Councils are tackling these community divides, mainly in an attempt to reduce crime levels on the large council estates. Their approach now is to buy a selection of houses within normal housing estates to use as council houses. These estates have a diverse range of housing ranging from single bed flats and apartment buildings all the way through to large five bed detached houses, with the smaller and larger properties spread equally throughout the estates. Whilst the council will buy some of these properties of all sizes, they also encourage private landlords to offer their properties as council housing. They are also careful to not group the council properties together, so there will be privately owned, privately rented, housing association and council housing all interspersed. Whilst this may help with the lowering of crime rates, it does also reduce the sense of community, as you have people of very different socio-economic standing living in close proximity, who frequently have very little in common with each other, no shared interests and don't really relate to each other. This can cause some degree of tension, in terms of dissatisfaction with neighbours.
    Of course the real solution is to reduce the degree of economic inequality, but that's not going to happen under a conservative government, quite the opposite.

    • @lisadiane10001
      @lisadiane10001 4 роки тому +1

      Corbyn's socialism will not help inequality either. It's not about how you arrange the housing. Its about creating opportunities so that there isn't a need for council houses. Free market capitalism does much better at creating opportunity. Socialism is great at keeping everyone poor.

      @@lisadiane10001 Actually both systems have worked really well when done well, but what would be considered socialist policies have the historical records in terms of economic growth. The problem we currently have here and in the US is that it is corrupt capitalism, designed to help the few. The stupid thing is that even those few would be better off paying higher taxes under a system that promotes economic growth. That said, they would be better off still under a well run capitalist agenda that was promoting growth. All we have at the moment is wealth being syphoned out of the economy to the richest few, leaving insufficient for the rest of us to create any growth in the economy. The richest are allowing their greed to cloud their judgement and, admittedly, just taking money without having to do anything is obviously the easiest way to accumulate wealth, but it is not the way they can accumulate the most wealth.

      @@Neofolis The tax systems need reform! If you give the top earners advantages that the bottom earners don't have that's a burden for the whole. The combination of free market capitalism seems to work very well with social safety nets. I think that is the most successful hybrid but the tax systems we have now are not a well run capitalist agenda that is promoting growth. It promotes financial havens and stock buybacks. It used to be illegal in the States to pay executives with stock shares. So eventually that means investment doesn't happen where it should.
      The good news about Brexit is that you wont be under the EU protectionist racket that constrains UK investment and trade and you will also have less exposure to having to bail out all of the EU zombie banks that are holding all that toxic debt. But only under the Tories. When I look at your parties I see shills more on the Labour side that took all their cues from a chaotic EU system The Tories seem to understand economics in a more serious way. Bye

    • @Neofolis
      @Neofolis 4 роки тому

      @@lisadiane10001 The problem is that it's a lot easier for an individual, group or corporation to make a political donation and get a 5000% return on investment, than it is for them to allow the politicians to create policies for the benefit of the economy and get a larger return, over a longer period, through increased business. The bigger problem is that the politicians don't want the donations to stop.
      I think, however you need to look at some successful systems that are considered socialist, of which there have been plenty. Any well run system is a combination of capitalism and socialism anyway. The NHS is a socialist system, which works well when properly funded and has almost 100% support from the electorate. Creating jobs and opportunity should be fundamental in any socialist manifesto, the whole point of socialism is to provide for the many, which doesn't mean just giving handouts, it means creating an environment in which people can provide for themselves. Obviously it also means taking care of those who can't provide for themselves, but why would anyone not want to do that.

      @@Neofolis We have both medicare and social security among other social safety nets aka socialism but the orange idiot wants to disrupt all of them. Both your NHS and our social safety nets all come from tax money. But I agree getting the money out of politics is essential. Lobbyists have too much influence because they grease the pockets of politicians in various ways. Quite frankly the same is true of the EU !! The Tories would be the same as the Democrats over here and NOT like the GOP because Toriesare much more socially liberal.. The GOP has morphed into a extreme right wing nut jobs party. Any old Republican that has any self respect has left the GOP and is now an Independent. Your Labour party has morphed in the other direction into a far left party. The best place is always some place in between! Have a nice holiday Bye

As in we are literally living on top of one another house prices are extremely expensive and they are just not WORTH THE MONEY they are going for. As a libra female space is NEEDED. I cannot stress this enough. Very very bad living here.

      Alek Mitev you’re right when you say poverty leads to crime. It’s usually how it works. And yep there is definitely a higher crime rate in ethnic minority groups. But this is because of the social deprivation and inequality that these people face. And when you account for social class and wealth, many studies have shown that the gap between white and ethnic minority crime is near nullified. I don’t want to put words in your mouth but acting like non-whites intrinsically commit more crime is just ignorant and extremely reductionist. If you weren’t implying that I apologise
