I see this song as a struggle that all men have to wrestle with all along their life. Either be a boy and have fun or the wisdom to carry forward and make sacrifices to help the ones he loves.
AstroKnott i agree he is the best voice in all of county music no one will ever come close to Randy travis i hate the music that they call country music today it's not even music today. Back in the good old days country music singers did sing to show off or because they thank that they look good or because it made them look cool they did it because of the love of the music and because there music touched people in a way that the music today whenever.
"There's a constant contradiction, what feels good and what feels right. Can you live with the decisions, that you make in your life? And what steers your direction is hard to understand." Still some of the best advice I've ever heard from anybody
The old country music could get you through hard times in life the ups and downs it could make you cry or make you laugh and feel better in a bad time in your life and would touch your heart. The what they call country music today just don't have that kind of power to it anymore the country music Industries have forgotten about the true meaning of county music today they need to get back to the heart and soul of true country music
timmy thomas I couldn't agree with you more! This song everytime I hear it I can't help but get chills down my spine because songs like these make you reflect on your life which I had to do and I'm only 21
This song brings back a memory of a very boyish spirit and a woman I once had. She loved me with everything she had, I loved her too but not enough to overcome my boyish spirit. I left her heartbroken and alone. Now, I am the one left heart broken and alone. She didn't deserve what I did. I think of her often.
Love you Randy!👍😎👍 God richly bless you and your family, for your love and grace, through Our Jesus Christ! You helped touch our spirits and the joy and passion of your awesome music....remain in our hearts! Thank you Randy! Wayne Legault 1☆250☆797☆7659. "Say It In a Song!" Need more info? I guess you could say, I was that little boy... My biological father was drugged up and in no way could be a father.. which was good for me. The man I've called dad my whole life (who was even in the room when I was born) stepped up when he didn't have to. He was, has been and always will be my dad, by blood or not... He stepped up like a man to take care of us and raised me. I found this out when I was 25, I'm 33 now and my dad comes over weekly to play with my kids. God has blessed me and took care of me.
im only 12 but if i could do one thing before i die i would so run away from home to meet him. i would do anything to meet him. Randy travis is a god given soul. he's an angel god sent to entertain us. I love randy travis!!!! amzing singer. And theres no need to put mean comments. everyone makes mistakes..... and im one one of those people so is Mr. Travis. and one more thing... why do people put a dislike button if there watching video... anyways... Bye!!
Keep up the GOD WORK KID. Think you are already wise. Key staying connected to him. The key to wisdom is loving GOD. Open your Bible to Proverb's wish I would have done as a young Marine Combat Engineer 1979-1982. Follow your heart God will lead your way. Semper Fi.
Randy and his music are so painfully missed, I pray to God for him to bless Randy and his loved ones with the degree of recovery that Randy is seeking from Him. God bless
When I found out that my girlfriend at the time (she's now my wife) was pregnant. One of my good friends at the time. Told me to just walk away. There was no way in hell I was gonna do that. Needless to say we aren't friends anymore. He's the kind of boy that would have walked away. Listening to this song makes makes me even more grateful. That I don't have people like that in my life anymore.
yea but the point of the song is how the main character essentially sacrificed all his hopes and dreams on a fucking kid and in an attempt to recapture that lost youth, fucks a truck stop diner hostess. there is no allusion to the fact that raising a kid is fulfilling your friend was right. but i guess that won't dawn on you until after you contract VD from a lot lizard 30 years from now
I think Randy Travis made a strong comeback in '98 with this CD. This song and the title track were big hits off this album. Great reflective coming-of-age song!!
As a whole I usually enjoy the old country but every once in a while an artist digs deep in their heart and pulls out something meaningful and that's what the heart of timeless country music is. Randy's roots were old school country and gospel and he stayed true to it till the day he could no longer perform regular.
He was 16, tender and tough. She was too, and he'd do anything to prove his love. With so much riding on the choice at hand, the spirit of a boy, or the wisdom of a man. Hearts caught fire and love ran wild. She cried the day she called to say she was having his child. With so much riding on the choice at hand, the spirit of a boy or the wisdom of a man. There's a constant contradiction, what feels good and what feels right. But, you live with decisions that you make in your life. And what steers your direction is hard to understand, the spirit of a boy, or the wisdom of a man Now he drives a diesel out of Dallas, hauling cars out to the coast. It ain't the dream that he remembered, just a few short years ago. But tonight at a truckstop, while drinking a cup, the waitress grins and winks at him, and says, "My shift's almost up." With so much riding on the choice at hand, the spirit of a boy, or the wisdom of a man. With so much riding on the choice at hand, the spirit of a boy, or the wisdom of a man.
"What steers your direction is hard to understand." When Jesus is at the center of your life, it's not hard to understand at all. For those of us who center our lives on Christ - and are a temple of the Holy Spirit - we may sin at times when we give into our flesh, but ultimately there is no question as to the direction of our life.
@ clearly you miss the point. Any teacher teach that alcohol is a sin is wrong. Go read Rome last 3 chaptwr chapter and Corinthian early chapters, Paul says everything was maded for good. But when you let anything take control over you is a sin. You suppose to take control on everything. So same goes to alcohol, food etc. About Jesus, he was sent here to be tempted to feel what we feel. His purpose is to live the lowest life here on earth to show us that he understand our struggle so those who questioning him to be quiet. Also to save us on the cross. You miss the point.
+Zach Phelps i just found this comment, so i will leave one myself. i think in today's world there is not much songs that relate to MEN. I think in today's world with this transgender crap and Hillary Clinton probably going to be our next president. it seems like the world HATES men. just my opinion. Why do so many men want to be transgender. even if they are not comfortable in there body how-come they cannot accept it. This transgender is to politically correct. you just live the way you were born. be who you are is my philosophy.
+Devvan Butler maybe because in my generation and after there are very few actual men left in the world. I got pregnant but who I believe is my soul mate - and all he did was abuse and ignore me and my own son, kicked us out in the middle of winter on the street, and then while we were struggling to get on our feet in a homeless shelter tried to take custody of my son he previous couldn't give a rats ass about. it's monsters like that that make a lot of people unfairly hate the male gender. in older times men were men and loved who loved them and seen the forest for the trees. now a lot of males sleep with whatever has a receptive orifice and don't know what commitment, parenthood, and being a man really is
The greatest voice of ever heard I remember the kids riding in the backseat and my mama was singing like a bird an i said who sings that Mom she said Randy Travis Usher love his voice BEEN MY FAVORITE SINCE I WAS 7 IM NOW 34

I remember this song I always listen to this til this day 2023 almost 2024 and will always listen to randy travis one of my all time favorite country singers him and tim mcgraw. Life goes by way to fast miss the 80s and 90s
You know that's the best music you've every heard when an entire lifetime can fit in 3:52 and be so true it makes you cry now that is the stuff off legend God bless him
it feels good so you naturally think that its right. thats where wisdom comes in and you have to know in your spirit what is right and know that just because it feels good doesnt make it right and even if it feels wrong doesnt mean its wrong.it can feel wrong and be the right thing to do. let your spirit grow by reading the word of God and by doing so you will gain wisdom and your spirit will get strong enough to bring your physical body into subjection of your spirit and you know then that you did the right thing regardless of how it feels.
Well said sir, I can't say it any better, growing up and even more now, country music always had a song for any situation I was going through or any feelings I was having. It always said the right things at the right time. I can always find something in that genre to help me. "Spirit of a boy, wisdom of a man" (I was 11) was the last Randy Travis song I remember before I didn't hear anything from him and he just dropped off the map. My mom used to grab me and make me line dance with her when whenever "Forever and ever amen" came on and she still uses that saying today.
God Almighty gets credit, and of course my dad,who no longer here on this Earth... I love you Cheryl. Forever you are the best decision this ole boy ever made...

He sends me this song almost every week and I listen to it and I cry myself.
I see this song as a struggle that all men have to wrestle with all along their life. Either be a boy and have fun or the wisdom to carry forward and make sacrifices to help the ones he loves.

You got to live with the decisions you make in this life
When you grow up in a small town and work hard for a living this is the great music you appreciate.
Choices are what we make, wish I had made some better ones. But life changes people.

A song of living life and given hearts. I know" because I too was that little boy. It made me cry. Miss you Dad.....
Randy Travis, I love your music
it feels good so you naturally think that its right. thats where wisdom comes in and you have to know in your spirit what is right and know that just because it feels good doesnt make it right and even if it feels wrong doesnt mean its wrong.it can feel wrong and be the right thing to do. let your spirit grow by reading the word of God and by doing so you will gain wisdom and your spirit will get strong enough to bring your physical body into subjection of your spirit and you know then that you did the right thing regardless of how it feels.
This is what real country sounds like.
My wife and I together from 1982 and thats one of his songs and I live it and this song is my story when I was a kid mmmmmmm what memories 😂😍👌
