I lived there in Anacortes in the San Juan Motel back in 1979 & 1980, welding pipe on some natural gas processing modules for Alaska. I also worked on pipelines from California to Canada, and lived in many towns on the coast. 😎👍 I really love it there.
You are in one of my favorite places on the planet and I can't get there because I live in Canada. This is the first summer I can remember that we didn't make it to the San Juan islands. Nancy
My wife's hometown! Her sister moved back up there from the SF, CA area after retiring a few years ago. Bought the house in old town just 2 doors down from where they grew up as kids right on 12th St. which is the main road to the San Juan Ferry. They used to go down to the Guemes Island Ferry a few blocks away to play.
Anacortes is one of the romantic spots that my GF and I like to visit. This town was named after Anne Curtis Bowman, an important person who lived in this area. They decided to make the town name sound more romantic by calling it Anacortes and also to match the Spanish place names in this part of WA State. Unlike California, WA has very few Spanish place names, but the San Juan Island area is the exception because Spanish explorers were the first Europeans to discover this area. The next time you visit Anacortes, head up to the top of Mt. Erie, which is actually an Anacortes city park. What a view!!! You don't see the Canadian islands from Anacortes. You do, however, see some of the San Juan Islands. The Gulf Islands, which are in Canada, are further to the NW. The bridge you went on goes over the Swinomish Channel and that was the Swinomish Casino you saw there. Anacortes is in the Olympic Rain Shadow, which means they get a lot less rain than down in Seattle.
Washington has definitely not disappointed! The Cascades were stunning on the big screen. I’ve never seen them before. Best virtual vacation ever, Russ!
I just viewed this video again. Washington is one of the four states that I have not visited. Thanks for the wonderful trip. I enjoyed (and I know it's very silly) seeing you make your coffee. I often wonder what you cook. how much and how often. The viewings of your videos are so ENJOYABLE because you travel the way I would and in your dialog I don't have to worry about profanity, obscene language, or opinions (except for Yuck Donald's!) Thank you again for helping my sanity during these different times.
Really nice videos I plan to copy this trip, like I copied your trip last year I’d like to see more about where you stay Best coffee, the filter cone or French press
I so look forward to your videos you planned a beautiful route. It truly is a deap breath of fresh air with each video not to mention the gasps of awe. I'm sending positive energy your way in hopes that you continue to outrun the smoke. Thanks again. 💞👍
Well you were a few weeks early for the Oyster Run motorcycle rendezvous.. And the hundreds of motorcycles completely taking over the town! A number of the 'Ag' fields you passed were tulips and daffodils.. it's a Huge area for bulbs every year.. down to the LaConner area.
You just passed a huge lumber mil! coming out on highway 20 from Bayview!!!! Losts of fishing but lots of dungeness crab fishieries and also oyster beds!!!!
Wish you after your destination!,could travel down through Olympic national park. We camped there in 1954 I was ~ 7 yo And only remember we stayed at wamilla lodge ! Drive safe!
Love Anacortes. The whole Area is so much fun to explore. Whidbey Island is wonderful and I love going to Coupville and going to the dock and looking at beautiful starfish. As you go further down towards Grays Harbor they have Cranberry Bogs and then go a little further down by Tokeland in Willapa Bay they have Oyster Farms. So many of people’s driveways are crushed Oyster shells. There’s even a little town called Oysterville. Miss going to this area.
I love Anacortes, driving in the sun beaming is one of my favorite memories during the pandemic. Thank you so much for your videos, it's like I'm coming for the car ride :)
Anacortes and Port Townsend--my two favorite Washington towns!! Fidalgo Bay RV Resort is beautiful and right on the water. Rockfish Grill in Anacortes Old Town--Best pizza! Love the recliner in the van. I want one in mine too.
Hi Russ, can you tell us where to get a copy of the soundtrack you use? I'd love to play this song on my adventures. It will be just like I'm on RVer TV!
Russ, they do get snow! As early as December. I served at Fort Lewis for 18 months, rainy, drove me crazy at times. But when the snow falls, and the temps drop, it can be really nice.
Wow it’s great seeing air, air you can’t see! Western Nevada AQI down to 155 unhealthy! Best it’s been today! Best it’s been in weeks! God I wish I were there Russ! Thanks!
Cool, you were just up by us, I grew up in Skagit Valley going to that park and the Breazeale Padilla Bay Interpretive Center as a kid, great nature center and trail loop through the woods next to a buffalo herd field, whale watching lookout on the beach, icicles in the winter when it's cold enough. Right now getting rained out and just gettin' ready to head down to AZ!
Hello, Been watching all your videos and asked before why no smoke... so when where these videos taken, as obviously not recently because there is NO smoke?
I'd give anything to have a blue sky like that tomorrow. This humidity is harder on me that the air quality. I live about four miles south of Bellingham and it's much clearer than it is downtown
Snow is rare usually once a maybe twice a year for 1-2 days, not really that much rain in inches really just stays grey and cloudy and spits on you LOL Love Bay view i have spent lots of time there!, San Juan Ferry is still running it make 3 or 4 stops before going into Canada and is the only way to get home for 100s who live in the San Juans in WA.
Russ I have relatives and friends In Canada and the border is staying closed. A lot of them are trying to visit the Yukon before the snow fly's their are also great sights in the Alberta area Just about all Boon docking. Dry camping. Their are areas were you are not allowed to leave you vehicle. You can only use self serve fuel. You are allowed to uses the facilities only at rest stops, and each province has covid check point you must drive through.
Same voice as 1980s videos of bigrig road videos of areas My gpts lived on carolina street 1975-1993, southside of fidalgo island It IS very nice up there We had one of those jettys in asotin, wa fun to dive from, etc in the snake river towns & cities oughta have free rest area/camping sites to give ease for travelers, help ease any congestion & help bring extra commerce to these places, only a win-win for all
Yeah, Russ, I can imagine living up there because I did for 12 years. That’s why I’m in Arizona now...traded 300 days of rain for 300 days of sun. (Each year) 🌞
lol... I was planning to trade Vancouver for Honolulu... there's a good reason why grunge bands mainly came from Seattle.... the lack of sun makes it depressing
Another great show , if you can find reasons to stay north ; From So. Cali to East Texas weather is so hot and sticky, @night 87 degrees with 68 % humidity rough .,mostly humidity in Texas like 91 %
That’s some good coffee right there. Really enjoyed the RV life shots , making the coffee and showing your upgrades , you should do more . I came across the north Cascade Hwy years ago from Omak but don’t remember much other than the pass. Enjoying seeing parts of our state I have never seen.
You drove right into my neighborhood. Covid did not start here - Don't know where that came from? Too bad you missed some of the really beautiful places a look out view from Cap Sante that is not flat ... very little of the land in Anacortes is flat - that would be out in the valley. Washington Park near the Ferries that also head out to the San Juan Islands is fabulous you can hike or drive a scenic route beautiful views. Then onto Deception Pass (my favorite place on the Planet) onto Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island.
Hi Russ, We were in Oak Harbor 3 weeks ago to visit my Niece, really an awesome place. Wow, drone shots perfect you got it down pat good going . Whoop whoop. Be safe, keep up the Videos. Larry&Linda
A lot of Canadian’s are going to BC in Canada 🇨🇦 just north of Washington State. Temperate Climate. We are a Hardy bunch and don’t need any Drama by crossing the border. I heard it’s closed till after November.
right where you turned around in downtown Anacortes, there was a hill ahead of you that you turned away from. If you had continued to that hill you would have seen a nice view that would be perfect for your videos, Cape Sante Park. Thank you for views of the Pacific North West.
Hey‼️♥️🇨🇦♥️🇺🇲 I'm waving atcha from Vancouver Island🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️ Luv seeing the inside of your home! Thx for the tour!! Neat Park, tide is out! Now our dictatorship government here in Canada is saying - border closed till October 21🤦♀️😒🤔
I have enjoyed your virtual vacation series. I like that you showed some footage inside your van. You should include more footage at the places you stay at. Add a weather report and temperature at the start of your day . I am just starting out in a suburban. Hope to meet you in person one day! 😉
Russ, the smoke is so bad here in Helena area, out at Devils Elbow were you stated, now we can't even see across the bay to the other side of the lake. Been this way now for over a week. Hugs MT Kids
He must have filmed this last week. I'm just out side the Seattle area and can hardly see my neighbors house 500 ft away. He's about to run into the entire northwest covered in smoke in a few days. It won't be fun.
Have enjoyed your videos of the PacNW. But wanted to point something out. You aren't taking into account the impact the Olympic Rain Shadow has on rainfall in that area. For example, the annual rainfall averages are: Sequim (Pronounced squim, similar to swim.) is ~17", Port Townsend is ~20", much of Whidbey Island is ~20", Anacortes is ~26", Port Angeles is ~26". Compare those to Forks, with its ~120". In addition to having less rainfall, it is sunnier in those areas.
Big Wave Russ from Colin and I in Osoyoos B.C Thank you Russ for the share...Yes that was Vancouver Island you were pointing to plus a few little Island, and when you are down in Oak Bay tomorrow you will be looking at Juan de Fuca Straight. Oh Russ that area too is beautiful but in a different way. It is flatter, but I love the smell of the ocean. Blaine Washington and White Rock are not far from where you were at Anacoste. What a sweet area. The people are great too. Yes Russ, I heard the Can. government say we won't be opening the border unless for essential travel till 2021. But hands across the border Russ to all our dear American friends and Family. Give everyone a hug from us as we wait through this virus, a terrible release on our humans on this planet we call earth. Please take care of yourself Russ....big wave from your friends across the border...Carolyn and Colin Hogarth Osoyoos B.C. Canada...No one can change that fact we all are forever friends...Thanks for the share...

I live in this area and I often have to pinch myself that I actually live among such beauty.

This was very relaxing Russ, the coffee making scene shows that life does not need to be at high speeds.

My dad grew up in Washington state during the 1930s. He always spoke highly of it.
Picturesque little town by the water.

My first trip to Washington, Russ, thanks to you!!! Beautiful!
I like how you adhere to the FAA rules about launching your drone so that it is not overhead of any persons.
The water in front of Bayview park is Padilla Bay.
Hi Russ, can you tell us where to get a copy of the soundtrack you use? I'd love to play this song on my adventures. It will be just like I'm on RVer TV!

I had to think a while about who Russ sounds like. It finally came to me...Bruce Dern.
If you make it to Olympia and want to meet for coffee I'd love to meet and talk about how you converted your van.
You should've traveled down the Washington Coast. You are missing some beautiful scenery.
Nice ride, Russ. Thanks.
Another great video Russ, safe travels
Russ what is the name of your coffee pot and drip system and where did you purchase it?
You should get on a ferry and go out to Friday Harbor. Its a beautiful trip.

Well you sure weren't here this week, must have filmed last week,we've been in smoke for 5 days now,we would've like to visit you...
This must of been filmed last week sometime. We have been socked in with smog for days now.
Did you notice the brick mosaic picture on the wall at 23:11 ? Cool portrait!
Anacortes was officially incorporated on May 19, 1891.
When did you first start flying drones and what kind were they?
At night from Anaortes you can see the lights of Victoria on Vancouver Island!!!!!
I was in Victoria over the weekend. It was covered with smoke... LOL
You should take the ferry to the San Juan Islands.
