@@thetrumpetman It's a melody that has a lot of ghost notes - notes that sound but don't vibrate the whole air column- therefore the melody will always be a problem for the brass family whom can't ghost notes (we do this with our voice when we half speak half sing a syllable over a note as is common in this kind of music) - being the reason the saxophones are properly treated as woodwinds with a brass timbre similar to the string section (it to s said a barri sax sounds similar to a cello) as opposed to the big bright brass of the horns which here Excel in the opening motif and it's continuation. It's rather the score wants to do something it can't due to the physics of the instrument, along with the fact that this kind of music needs a strong woodwind presence due to the asset of a well controlled clarinet in A. - remember typically we have four trumpets, two bones, two french horns, and one barri horn- never a sousaphone or tuba to be found. By contrast we only have two flutes and two clarinets in the woodwinds given the arrangers election not to use the saxophone section to back low brass.
@@Harlem55 Thanks for the explanation. The ghost note stuff does make sense. I didn't even think about the accompaniment instrumentation for this arrangement since it sounded alright to me. But I typically don't delve deeply enough to understand which instrument families should be present or not.
@@Harlem55 I'm a little familiar with musescore, but 99% of the time i use Finale. I don't make my backing tracks, though. So I had no control over the instrumentation. The only thing I did was just add an additional trumpet part for some of it as well as putting in some falls and doits
