If that's supposed to be a Dutch accent, I am the pope. Friends is a funny show, but it's really sad how bad the creators did their homework on the Dutch, at matched casting, given the amount of times they tried to include Dutch characters in the series.
This isn’t the only time that Friends failed to cast a real Dutch person. So lazy! And like others say, Joey pronounced her name much better than she did herself.
@@mrc2936 Apparently it's short for the common Germanic name Margarete (=the flower 'daisy' in Greek). Although I've never heard it either, a friend told me that it's a bit more common towards the northeastern part of the county, in Twente/Groningen.
