- Today is another extended tour episode as we go through my miscellaneous shelf of independent, archive, and European comics to see what I've collected outside of the big two. I hope you enjoy it :)
It's good to see someone into the European stuff! I don't understand how people can say they like comics but show zero interest in anything other than marvel or DC.
Yeah the US history of comics VERY conveniently forgets to mention the huge importance and influence of Europe, South America, Japan. veeeery conveniently forgotten.
I.e. i never saw a single US artist who comes even close to Moebius. Not even close.
Awesome stuff! I was waiting for that. Your whole collection is such great.
I love your videos dude. I get to learn so much
Valerian and Laureline and Mobeius are some of my favourites
I really enjoyed your collection. A great variety of different works. 👍
I feel safe guessing that this part of your collection has the highest quality ratio
I only found this now! Great video and awesome collection. Thanks!
Impressive library: Crepax, Witzend, Rogue Trooper, The Puma Blues, Axa (you are the first youtuber I"ve seen who has mentioned that series. I read some in the early 80's), Before the Incal, The Metabarons, Son of the Gun, Bouncer... fantastic.
EC is the joint! Any book title that starts "Weird..." gets my immediate attention!
2 Creepy & 2 Eeries & no Vampirella? Bro, what's wrong?
Those EC Comics collected editions... -drool-
Man I am super jealous of those Princess Knight volumes, I've been having a rough time finding them for anything other than a fortune.
You know, I've actually sold them since then! But they were like the best condition paperbacks I've ever had. Like in weirdly good shape.
I know you organized your top Manga shelf like that just to fuck with a couple of guys' OCD. Ahah
Love your videos mate.
Really great video. I hope you'll make some reviews of these since you're pretty much the only one I found that talks about Indie/EC/Euro collected editions on youtube
And please complete the Spirit archives, they are cheap now and will soon get OOP and won't be reprinted for a good while I guess
I'm surprised that you don't have any Naoki Urasawa manga or Scott McCloud comic. You should totally read Urasawa's Monster and McCloud's Understanding Comics. Understanding, specially, it's a good book to companion any other good read.
So, there you have two good authors to check out. And if you like Tezuka, then you'll probably like these guy's art style, since Osamu inspired them so much.
Witzend and Eightball collections are so good. Even though I have like 2/3 of the run I still wanted it. Plus Nature Boy has never been reprinted in any of the other Clowes collection, only other place it's available other than the original floppy. Yeah, "Complete Eightball" is a misnomer, Death Ray and Ice Haven were single-story issues but David Boring ran from, I think, 19-21. Still, great thing to have. Not really a Clowes completist but I have a god deal of his work, gonna get the new Velvet Glove edition too, I think...
What would you say is the best "Image" Series that they have published ?.
I would actually kill a man with by bare hands for a reprint of Phoenix.
Savage
people need to spam the hell out of viz media on their social network sites until hey get the message.
Zenith (pronounced with the Zen as in rhymes with hen or Ben) is superb.
Have you heard of a French-Belgian graphic novel called "Le Rapport de Brodeck?" Not sure what the English name is, but the black-and-white, noir art is right up your alley (i.e. Eternaut).
Hey Nerdventures.... i am Very interested in Darwyn Cooke Books... do you have any? I guess i will pick up the MInute Men
I don't have much, I have the absolute new frontier that he did with DC but I think that is it.... I would like to get into his catwoman stuff which I think he did with Brubaker? But I don't know that much about him off the top of my head honestly
Nerdventures Thanks for Responding. I have an Issue of his Catwoman... it has a nice feel and look to it,.. but it didn blew me away. Still i think his art and the person he is, flows into his storys and makes em great. Check out Parker, and an Interview with this guy? How is the New Frontier stuff?
I watch quite a lot of these graphic novel collections & I never see Slaine & I'm told that it's 2000ad's best selling graphic novel.
'All kinds of crazy *gag* stuff' - think you missed
I talked with Frank Barbiere about a month ago and he said Five Ghosts is continuing in the coming months.
Hey nerdventure, will you be picking up the Wonder Woman absolute edition?
+LG Maciel yep, I just ordered it today!
About Rat Queens hardcover from Amazon:
The first disappointment for me was that the collection does not contain all of the stories from the available-only-virtually preview. Especially one of my favorite short stories, where what seems to be a fierce battle is just a big Rat Queens hangover, is missed sorely.
The second point I have is that the structure of the stories is not well presented. The editors decided to reprint each 5 issue story line without chapters with the covers at the end and no signs where a single issue ends and the next one begins. This does not work for me. A cliffhanger is an important stylistic device in comics and when the story just continues this takes rhythm out of the tale. I would have reprinted the original covers between the chapters and only the alternates at the end.
You really, really ought to do videos about Tezuka's stuff. Soon.
Could you coment on those shelves? are they IKEA?
wheres xenozoic tales?
+saAS AS it's somewhere else on one of my shelves, sort of unorganized
Given you have two versions of the same series, perhaps a giveaway is in order....perhaps to some of your oldest subscribers who also stuck with the podcast... (me, please give me nice comics)
The amount of stuff that is out of order triggers me. Like bro put ur Vinland Saga next to each other, they are on the same shelf for goodness sakes
i like your marvel collection
rat queens was great until the artist changed
Bruh what have you read
awww i was hoping this would be dc
still happy with another vid tho
+Yanke East That'll be soon too!
