The last year John was at Liverpool our sons played in a 6 a side tournament in Mynydd Isa just out side Mold
Our boys where in different teams but we spent the day with our camping chairs next to each other , just chatting all day about football and being parents
The guy signed just about everything he was asked apart from when his son was playing , I said to him if this is what being famous is like you can keep it
He said yeh but I get to do what I love every week , now I’m a United fan and he knew this , so I never asked for a picture but he did ask if I wanted one before we left . I have never seen 8 football made 10yr olds sooooo excited as we stood together for a team picture with John in the middle of my boys for the picture
The bloke is a star regardless who he played for and I got to see the other side of being a footballer

John barnes took more stick then any other player in english league back when he played, and he did the right thing, just played with his feet, and won over those who hated him, and he got massive respect from alot of whites back then just as he did it the right way.
Of course other club fans hated him, but they had respect for him, as he was not like todays players claiming everyone is racist.
Barnes won over many of his haters just by doing what he did, ie play football very well, and showed those who hated him, he could rise above it.
Very unusual for a black person to rise above the rubbish, but john barnes did, and he should get massive respect for the way he conducted himself. Not with hate, but he just rose above the haters, and won over many of his haters by showing them what he could do, and they had respect for him for doing that.
Of course you cannot win over all your haters, but john barnes showed black people what black people should really do in multi cultural society, and that is show others you are not what they think you are, and prove them wrong, that as a black person you can rise above the rubbish he had to deal with.
Fair play to john barnes for being the player he was, and his attitude that he won over his haters with his skill as a footballer, and people showed him enormous respect for who he was, and how he handled it back then, as it was not easy, and how good he was, he got alot of abuse.
John Barnes is the gift that England didn't deserve.

I can't be alone in finding it weird/annoying that John Barnes is seemingly ok with that bone or whatever it is sticking out of his body at that bizarre angel.
