to me this film represents the unpredictability of life, when you think about it life has no plot structure, things just seem to happen, people come, people go, everything flows man.
I love how you edit The Dude saying "Thanks Gary" to reflect to the real Gary by recommending The Big Lebowski! and this is a great movie! WORTH WATCHING!
Looking back, I'd say this is actually the Cohen Bros best movie. And I lived in LA at the time that this came out. All of the random silly strange things and characters...this is about LA. The landlord, the Dude's lifestyle....you can live like the Dude in CA without ANY real income. I don't think the Dude had any royalties. I'm guessing he lived off of food stamps. And at least at that time, "food stamps" in CA came in the form of cash. You showed that you had an address (by describing where you lived ex. sketching it out on a piece of paper), applied for "food stamps", and were handed 1-200 in cash in the same visit. I was unemployed in Hollywood for a spell, and I drank every day. The money from recycling my bottles at "Ralph's" market (where the Dude bought his) bought me my next day's wine and vodka. They even paid me for the weight of the glass that couldn't be recycled. Welcome to CA.
this movie introduced me over a decade to the spanish version of hotel california and Kenny Rogers Just dropped in...and white russian...best day of my life
When it comes to Jeff Briges, this is a good movie off him and i love the bath sceen, but is strange your dont mentions films such as: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint Eastwood that Jeff Briges was Oscar nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1974 and what about The Fisher King (Terry Gilliam) which is probably his best movie today. And what about The:Star Man :)
I watched this film as a part of a Scripting & Storyboarding class in 1999 in college. Afterwards we discussed the film for the next two hours. I remember that we decided Sam Elliot's character was meant to be God, among other things. When I showed it to my mom a few months later, we decided to see if we could keep up with the Dude. We mixed up a big pitcher of White Russian, rolled some doobs, and settled in with the film on DVD. About halfway through we were giggling uncontrollably as we listened to the Dude fail splendidly to explain what was going on, as we failed to explain why it was so damn funny. We had to give up and declare victory for the Dude shortly afterwards, when the pitcher was empty. Probably just as well, we certainly didn't need any more!
Great choice, possibly the last decent film the Coens made, amazing how Steve Buscemi and John Torturro can steal the show with such small parts. You know Donny actually speaks with the Dude 3 times, asking 'They were Nazis dude?"
love your reviews guys! found your Alien Covenant review few weeks back, now I have been going through the majority of your other horror/sci fi stuff. Just wondering are you going to be doing a review on the Scream films? or any more 80/90's horror?
Great review! I'll have to get around to watching The Big Lebowski someday. For another Coen Brothers film to review, how about taking a look at their directorial debut, "Blood Simple (1984)".
Having only just seen this movie .... I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Aspects of the movie I enjoy but come out of my first watch not knowing what I think of it. I didn’t hate it. It kept me watching. It’s a hard one to pin down an opinion on.
Definitely agree that it's a good idea to start on Cohen films with something like 'Raising Arizona' (1987) - Which is pretty impossible NOT to like imo! 😸_👍
From that angle that guy on the cliff couldn't have missed the crew, which ain't exactly unheard of in L.A. And as 4 'guys hugging'...Have u guys ever heard of San Francisco??? it's even in the same state so...
I remember watching this movie for the first time back in '09. I though it was funny the first time, then I tried to watch it again a few months later and I was thinking, "This is dumb." If you enjoy it then good for you, but I'd rather forget it.
"The bums will always lose!!""Yeah he said take any rug in the house" lmao, still kills me
That's it guys, you've convinced me, I'm off to watch it again for the zillionth time. I'll finish the review later. The dude abides.
WOOOOO!!!!!
*stands and claps like an idiot*
YOU JUST KEEP HITTING THE FUCKING HOME RUNS, OTS!!!!!!
Biohazard BoB - They really tie the room together...
“Larry, have you ever heard of Vietnam? You’re entering a world of pain son.”

I know right, what a perfect touch, in fact I love Gary & Iain's reviews so much, this is my second time watching this video :)
"You're killin' your father, Larry.."
This isn't Nam, this is bowling...there are rules.
I saw this film in theaters by myself, and I am glad I did, no one else would go see it with me
Yeah?
Well, you know that's just like... your opinion, man.
Holy shit the naked lady wasn't censored in this review 😮 how did you all get away with that?
Fuckin' classic! In Dude We Trust!
Gotta be one of the best comedy movies in my opinion. 100% one of the most qoutable
Yeah well that's just like your opinion man.
Donny doesn't really exist... he's a voice inside John Goodman's head.

Guys, your reviews and great. Been binge watching one of your older vids today as I got rained out at work today. Love your channel! 🤙
Walter's aggression towards Donnie is part of the plot Ian, it's the running gag...
Damn these reviews are fucking great.

*" Roadie for METALLICA "* ( The Dude )
Bunch of assholes 😂
One of my favorite films of all time! Thankyou brothers! 🙏👊
"This isn't Nam, there are Rules" this movie is full of memorable quotes," Theres a Beverage here, Hey!!"
"If the Cohen Brothers were novelists they would probably just make anthology books" - Jump to 2018
"The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"
I have never watched this all the way through. I will now.
The Relic 1999 film should be reviewed also
Love the review. It took me several viewings to figure out what's going on, but it is a wonderful film.
when i first watched this i didn't hate it i quite enjoyed it but it definitely confused me, after a few watches i learned this film was a masterpiece
Awesome review, please do The Mummy 1999 next!
Great choice, possibly the last decent film the Coens made, amazing how Steve Buscemi and John Torturro can steal the show with such small parts. You know Donny actually speaks with the Dude 3 times, asking 'They were Nazis dude?"
Just for your knowledge, Flee was also in a movie titled “Suburbia” . It’s worth seeing.
I saw him in that, and I didn't think Flea was acting. He was brilliant in that film, which is also brilliant.
love your reviews guys! found your Alien Covenant review few weeks back, now I have been going through the majority of your other horror/sci fi stuff. Just wondering are you going to be doing a review on the Scream films? or any more 80/90's horror?
Please review Fargo.
you guys have some serious balls showing that clip of the nude lady on the blanket😂👍
this is basically Beau Is Afraid but not absolutely traumatizing.
Flea in SUBURBIA (1983) "Mikey B"
Great honest review dudes
so what is the best Coen brothers' film?
I love No Country For Old Men
"I never met a stranger in the alps" - "and I am Gary"
Great review! I'll have to get around to watching The Big Lebowski someday. For another Coen Brothers film to review, how about taking a look at their directorial debut, "Blood Simple (1984)".
The "man count" in the film is almost on par with "Up In Smoke".
Today’s the film’s 20th anniversary!
Having only just seen this movie .... I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Aspects of the movie I enjoy but come out of my first watch not knowing what I think of it. I didn’t hate it. It kept me watching. It’s a hard one to pin down an opinion on.
Same man
Another pleasant surprise! ☺
Great review as always but
Who the fuck are the knutsons ?
Definitely agree that it's a good idea to start on Cohen films with something like 'Raising Arizona' (1987) - Which is pretty impossible NOT to like imo! 😸_👍
Thanks man you nailed it The Coen Bros movies are better every time. I think they are so insanely gifted you cant understand them
Flea was in fear and loathing in Las vegas as well. Those three small acting credits are better than a lot of actors full filmographies
One of my favs of all time
There's a spin off film about Jesus called Going Places which is out this year.
Gary and Ian are the Numero Uno
Have u guys watched any Spike Lee movies ?
also master and commander
From that angle that guy on the cliff couldn't have missed the crew, which ain't exactly unheard of in L.A. And as 4 'guys hugging'...Have u guys ever heard of San Francisco??? it's even in the same state so...
so who was the guy? nothing goes unexplained these days
Poor Donny
We want the MONEY Lebowski!
Log jamming
Autobahn made me laugh.
Strong men also cry.
I have a weird attraction to Jesus. Also I appreciated this movie much more as I got older. I didn't get it on my first attempt to view.
18:47 & 36:07 those two scenes always make me laugh out loud.
Nice marmot.
I want to see Going Places.
You guys from Bristol?
Millers Crossing is best Coen film.
Did it ever occur to anyone that Maude wants a baby with a man who has the same name as her father? Electra anyone?
At 5:46 is that Skyler from Breaking Bad??
can't go wrong with this movie :)
Nice review.....man
Guarda cosa succede Larry quando cerchi di fottere chi non conosci! 😅
Best line ever 😂
Mark it zero!!
*Turn Up*
"We got a date Wednesday Baby Woooo, Followed by a Jesus Hip Thrust, Hahaha
LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA. - LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,LA. -LA,LA,LA,LA, -LA,LA,LA, DUDES🤐
love this movie!! lol
YESSSSS MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME
They didn't mention that his car gets worse and worse throughout the film. I love that.
Far out.
oddly maude was the only thing i didn't like about this movie.
I remember watching this movie for the first time back in '09. I though it was funny the first time, then I tried to watch it again a few months later and I was thinking, "This is dumb." If you enjoy it then good for you, but I'd rather forget it.
luckily since im spiritual i can be part of dudeism
I hated Maude she was the worst character
🐐🐐
I think the movie is indeed vapid and overhyped, but it’s not the worst movie. There are better movies, though, than this.
that was the worst synopsis ive ever heard
love all Cohen bros movies but this one. big labowski was the worst movie they ever made.
Absolutely the most boring review of any movie ever
