Everybody looks so Happy, it made my eyes leak! Such Beautiful Hula , I feel lucky knowing about this tradition and am very happy it has not been forgotten!
I really wish they would actually coordinate all the kumu to come onto the stage to be recognized. Then when they are all on the stage, they perform a song or two, then give them all their gifts. Some of the kumu took a whole to get to the stage and barley danced at all. I think everyone loves to see the kumu dance.
I agree. I go every year and I always have no problem staying the WHOLE entire asana/award night. However, we need to keep in mind that by the time it gets to the point where the kumus can dance it's already like almost, or already, 1:00 in the morning. By then the kumu, and of course everyone else, is very tired... I can only imagine how tired the kumus themselves must feel after such a long years of intense practicing and a long week of Merrie Monarch festivities. Aloha.
