This man isn't just a brilliant musician, he changed the world with his music and brought people together. I respect him more than any other artist in my lifetime. I'm a country music guy and love me some George Jones but Ray Charles is someone to look up to on so many levels.
Ray Charles was the best, ever I once had the chance to see Ray in concert with Van Morrison in Newcastle. It didn't happen. This man could do it all, and he did with SOUL If anyone ever asks - what is soul, just say to them......listen to Ray
This man's face should be on Mt. Rushmore! I feel fortunate to have seen live twice before be left this world. I have met David "Fathead" Newman also, when he plays the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. A genuinely fine man and wonderful musician, and an RC protege, too. What a tight-as-can-be band...
Hallelujah, I do love her, her life together with mine is a bond that remains in our destiny and thanks to her, loneliness disappears. I just want to be at her door waiting for her and when I see her I can laugh. I love you so much Mell.
Blind, playing the piano and singing at the same time! That's absolutely amazing, but I think the most beautiful thing is how he smiles when he's singing, he's enjoying it! He's a genius!
I went to my first RC concert in '62....it was stand-up, all crunched up against the stage. I was about three back, with the Raelets right over me. What a night!
one of the greats of all time who DOESNT need a computerized mixer to sing well. If only our artists today could sing as well as he does at a regular concert. RIP Ray Charles
He is the greatest!!! I am 39 yrs old and my 57 yr old mum danced to his music for my grandmother and company when she was a child....Ray's music will never die....
that's how I met his music. My father saw him in a concert and always talked about him i STATED listening to his report after I saw the wondeful movie...
This music was recorded in 1962 when Stevie Wonder was only 12 yrs old. Probably this video is from the first half of the 70's and Stevie already changed a bit the lryics from it's original. But it's still great to see such a vitality and soul when he's playing it. Great vid.
the arrangement of this song is just pure beauty..never will be another like him, never. listening to this song makes me think everything WILL be alright...hallelujah!
WOW!!! only 25 years oland already the greatest musician of all time, people with perfect vision still coulnt play as well as Ray did, and thats whats makes him a true piano Genius, RIP ray your music will always be with us.
...dedicated to my parents and their friends who rocked the house on friday nights...the smell of perch frying, cold pabst blue ribbon in a tin tub and the sounds of ray charles.....damn...i had it good....
Michael Najera its a jazz bass, which means this cannot be 1955. The jazz bass made an appearence in 1960. What's more it's a bound neck with block -inlays, suggesting a '66. I'd say this clip is more likely mid -late 60s
this song just knoocks my socks off..... that man sure was a genius.has to be given respect for everything he achieved.and the the problems he overcame also.rip ray charles robinson
this song is good :) we play it in my school jazz/big band and our singer (a female) sings this really good and its a great song for a guitar solo :) 5 stars
Yes I agree with you too. This probably was taped in the late 1960s, just by looking at the way Ray looks. His sunglasses are a way to tell what year or decade this was filmed in because he wore a variety of sunglasses in his life. By looking at his sunglasses I would have to say as I said earlier the late 1960s, 1967-1968 give a take.
Yea, this is a GREAT song I first heard with Eddie Cochran (RIP) - a couple of years later but still in the 50's - who was a huge Ray Charles (RIP) fan. As an immensly big EC fan I of love his version but I do not compare as this original is so great too.
" if elvis was the king then ray charles was a God!"
So absolutely true!!!

It just doesn't get any better than this. Gold to my ears.
This man is music.
Hallelujah I just love his music so!
I never understood why he rocked back and forth so much...but he was "conducting" his band....the man never missed a beat!
“There’s only one genius in show business. Ray Charles.” - Frank Sinatra
Hallelujah, I do love her, her life together with mine is a bond that remains in our destiny and thanks to her, loneliness disappears. I just want to be at her door waiting for her and when I see her I can laugh. I love you so much Mell.
And I feel very loved by you, my love.
Exactly like his performance at Cincinnati Gardens in 1957 ... miss you, Ray!

Wish i was alive to see this in person at least once.
I grew up in the '50's. I heard it all over the radio. We all knew this song, and Ray Charles' work
When you've got it, you've got it, and this man was overflowing with "IT"!
There will never be another talent like Ray Charles Robinson. He was truly one of a kind.

Greetings from an 18-year-old from The Netherlands.

When I'm thinking about his blindness I admire him even more.

Weird to see a fender p-bass this early instead of a classic double bass player in this big band ensemble. Very progressive for the time.
man so hip. and that tight drum groove? so modern

It's so incredible that this was recorded in 1955. It wasn't even released officially until the next year, and yet he was already heavily improvising.
