Hmmm... I have to say the fastest patrol car I have ever worked with was a 1970 Plymouth Fury I. Before the CA smog control kicked in. If I remember right, it had a 383 four barrel and limited slip differential. I do remember them having two batteries. The sirens were electromechanical and were very loud... even from behind the grill. The cars had a red spotlight, red beacon and amber flasher on the rear deck. The 1972 Fords which came were slower even with the 429 and the handling was not quite as crisp. The 1975 Fords with the 460 ran like they had a six in them in comparison. We would have been better off with the Matador.
I don't know, the 429 accelerated in a straight line like a bat out of hell. Nose heavy and poor brakes made it a bitch in pursuits in L.A. It had A/C and power steering/brakes. Didn't accelerate like the 1968 Plymouth Belvedere assigned to 14Adam3, but the Belvedere was really worn out when it was retired.
LAPD's Company Cars For 1970, the CHP had the Big Ass Full Size 1970 Mercury's, but the Engines were Too Heavy for the Mounts, & had No Power Steering, & Other Issues, After that they Went Back to the Big Ass Dodge Polara's from 71 to 73, & Monaco for 74-75, & the Mid Size Dodges from 76 to 78, Rarely any New Cars for 79 Due to Prop 13 Passed In 78, 79 they had the 79 Z/28, the Plymouth Volare Wagon which had Real Shitty Horse Power, & Round 1980 the Shit Box Dodge St.Regis, which was a Disaster Also in Horse Power, CHP Sold them Off & Were Destroyed in T.V. Shows Like the A-Team, Hunter, T.J. Hooker, Etc, Bought the Diplomat, Impala, & Mustang G.T. & Later the Caprice for the 80's.

Any "fuselage" Chrysler product with a "U" code 440 HP (the '72 Polara, seen at ~5:30~, probably the epitome) were superlatives.
