I forgot to mention another reason for this mod: it is less wear on the centrifugal clutch! In high it slips a lot and never fully engages unless you are moving way too fast. In low it fully engages smoothly and has less wearing, making the clutch last longer!

The automatics never had this problem because they had an "override" button and the reverse was geared right. The manual Arctic Cat and Suzuki Eiger 400s are the only 4-wheelers I know of that have this issue. If you know of any others then comment the year, make, and model. This will help me and anyone else know in the future!

Thanks for sharing this info. I might try the same mod. I came across this video because I'm trying to figure out why mine won't go into gear after I took the side cover off. Do you happen to remember which side faces out on the gear that the shifter fork sits over? I think I put mine in backwards or wrong somehow.

I figured it out today..the gear selector was backwards. Now I'm thinking about doing that mod you did. Do you k ow the part number for that piece you modified...is it called a shift drum? Great info!

Yeah man it is the best mod ever! I went on ebay and found the piece from another one, but on Partzilla there is a diagram showing how all the pieces go in the side cover and the part numbers are listed as well. Don't think they sell it anymore but the number is listed. ebay is probably your best bet. Just be very careful and keep measuring to make it come out right or other wise you will ruin it. Good luck tho!

Thanks...got one on ebay for 10$. I'll probably try to do it my self, but I'll look for a machine shop around here and see if maybe someone else could do it better than me and a drill and grinder.

@@chriss6078 I did find like 1 or maybe 2 forum posts on the internet, just type in "arctic cat weak reverse" and it should come up. That's when I knew I wasn't the only one to have this problem.

Does anyone know where I can get my 4*4 piece that broke, thanks

What piece do you mean exactly? Like a driveshaft or engagement module?

@@IngenTechNational It is almost similar to the foot in the video, enter it to activate the 4x4

@@Mau_13 Ohh the handlebar switch? They should be on ebay or if not I'm sure you can find an aftermarket one or make it where it manually engages.
