  • I built this ATV pull behind box blade to help smooth out the roads around my house. Hopefully some of you will see something from my design and build your own.

    A good source for screw jacks are those 10' satellite dishes people want out of their yards... They operate on 12 Vdc - 36 Vdc - just slower or faster depending on voltage. They also have built in limit switches.

    A really professional build and well finished, I am surprised how well it hold down, I think that is due to the angle of the cutting blade, excellent!

    Could modify the tongue so you can offset the box... add individual lift to each wheel, dig deeper on either side.

    • @tallfarmboy
      @tallfarmboy  3 роки тому

      You are absolutely correct... Could make this into a trencher or ditcher, quite easily. The offset tongue idea is unique as well. Thank you for the comment!

    Nice, Still using it? I would just drill some more holes down the upright to make it adjustable. Nice work.

    • @tallfarmboy
      @tallfarmboy  5 років тому +2

      Yep, more holes would definitely work. I still use this quite a bit for leveling out gravel and dirt in places when it's needed. It's been a great addition to my ATV tools.

  • @JM-yx1lm
    @JM-yx1lm 5 років тому +13

    Wait, what do you mean if you could do it over again you would make the screw jack 2" higher? Just drill another hole 2" lower than where it is now and put the bolt back in.

  • @sicsempertyrannis8830

    • @tallfarmboy
      @tallfarmboy  6 років тому +1

      amzn.to/2H0HVQK You'll need a linear actuator like what is in this link. Depending on the length of the actuator, your design can be modified to fit different size cylinders. I would recommend at least an 8" actuator. I think the one on my design is at least 8" stroke. Hope that helps!

    • @tallfarmboy
      @tallfarmboy  6 років тому +2

      Also, it IS connected to the ATV battery and wired with a Double Pole, Double Throw switch to reverse the polarity and raise and lower the actuator.

    They key to a atv box blade is having enough weight and a hard cutting edge. The one I have seen you can buy are junk compared this this one. Nice work.

    • @tallfarmboy
      @tallfarmboy  6 років тому +3

      I appreciate it! I do think it would cut the hump out of a gravel road... It would take several passes, but I think it's heavy enough to do it.

  • @robertnichols4833
    @robertnichols4833 3 роки тому +4

    Very nicely done. Implement and video both. No insipid music. No constantly yammering narration. Just the facts about the machine. No wasted footage of scenery or setup. The blade is nicely done too. Everyone looking probably would do some of the details differently, but you went and built it, and it clearly works as intended. You've got me thinking about finally learning how to weld. What a useful skill for a whole bunch of stuff I need to do. THANK YOU!

    Well done - your design is well thought out and it works really good. The thickness of the metal was also a wise choice, good and heavy so it digs in…even the packed road. My only concern would be the strain on my ATV - I suppose in 4x4 low it should be okay but that’s quite a bit of pulling. Anyway, thanks for sharing and cheers

    Very nice build.
    You can get much better and faster jack screw travel if you move the bottom end of the actuator forward about 4-8 inches. As far as possible without causing interference. It will increase the load the screw has to lift but it looks heavy duty enough to handle it. Also, you can add another set of holes at the top jack screw mount to get additional height.

  • @Nevertrustalawyer
    @Nevertrustalawyer 5 років тому +1

    Like the build. Have you thought about being able to put a pitch on what you are grading? Pothole start from water that won’t drain. Ie: all gravel roads have a crown for drainage. I wonder if a 10” roller (200#) the same width of the blade would help pack what you graded instead of just the two wheels? I understand the current setup would travel/transport better.

    • @thundervalley9766
      @thundervalley9766 4 роки тому +1

      Nevertrustalawyer I also thought the same. I could make one out of heavy pipe. The one I made just has tires, thus far

    • @Nevertrustalawyer
      @Nevertrustalawyer 4 роки тому +1

      Thunder Valley or corrugated steel drain pipe filled with water, sand or cement. If you do, I’d love to see a video???

    • @thundervalley9766
      @thundervalley9766 4 роки тому +1

      Nevertrustalawyer I was thinking 8” 1/4” wall pipe with a plug to fill and empty it. I’d have to keep dry weight under 300 lbs though. I could even go 10” I think. I have different sizes laying around. I’ll weigh some and see, but I got a few other things in the fire first

    • @Nevertrustalawyer
      @Nevertrustalawyer 4 роки тому +2

      Thunder Valley that should work. Think about using a piece of say 1” angle to scrape mud or dirt clods from sticking to your roller? I’d still love to see a video sometime. Blade stabilization is the key to making these things work.

    Good job, clean build. Could squeeze out a bit more lift height by drilling holes for the cylinders ‘s upper lift pin a bit lower down. Not sure if you’d still be able to lower as much though. Did you consider a “landscape rake” style grader? I’d like to have one of those myself but a box blade works too.

    • @tallfarmboy
      @tallfarmboy  6 років тому +1

      I wanted the ability to move material and fill in holes... the landscape rake would be nice for removing roots/rocks/etc... but, that's not what I'm after now... This creation is basically for sale, also.

    • @nathanratchford9996
      @nathanratchford9996 6 років тому
