  • In this video we take you to the beautiful Turtuk and Thang village which is a border town and one of the northernmost villages in Ladakh. It is situated in the Nubra Tehsil region, 205 km away from Leh. We start the journey from Hunder town in Nubra Valley and reach Turtuk Village, after which we take you to the Thang village view point from where you can see the LOC at India Pakistan border. You can also see the bunkers on hilltops occupied by the Indian and Pakistani armed forces. Turtuk was under Pakistan's control until late 1971, after which India gained control over this area. Geographically, Turtuk lies in the Baltistan Region which s borders with current day Pakistan. You can see the LOC (line of control) from Thang village which is the last Indian outpost before Pakistan in Ladakh. Lying on the banks of Shyok River, it is a very secluded, military-dominated, and sensitive area, as merely few kilometers ahead is the border or LOC between India and Pakistan. People of this predominantly Muslim village speak Urdu, Ladakhi, Balti, and Hindi. It is the gateway to the Siachen Glacier, with the snow-clad peaks of Mt. K2, visible in the horizon from the top of the village.
